So for the first time since returning from USA, Yao Ming joined the national team in practice this morning (August 4).

Due to the airport strike in Spain, the national team did not arrive back to Beijing until yesterday, and thereby depriving Yao Ming 1 day for gelling with the team.

Yao Ming was the very first one there at the stadium at 08:00am to practice his shooting. After 1 hour, his team mates showed up, and started the team practice at 09:00am.

Due to 5 players (Liu Wei, Wang Zhizhi, Du Feng, Zhang Qingpeng, and Gong Songlin) were still with injuries, there were only 10 players, divided into 2 teams for practice. Yao Ming was teamed together with Yi Jianlian, Zhu Fangyu, Wang Shipeng and Chen Jianghua. The other team comprised of Sun Yue, Xie Libin, Chen Ke, Mo Ke and Zhang Songtao.

The team practice went for 2 hours, and Yao Ming went out to run for a while, and came back for another session before calling it the day.

Yao Ming said that even if Wang Zhizhi can make it back to the team for the World Championship, this will not be the strongest China team in its basketball history, as there are just oo many young player with very little international and big match experience, and the team is plague with injuries.

Here are a few photos of Yao Ming at today's team practice.

It's incredible how much different Yao's body looks physically over the past few years. It is hard to imagine him as that skinny kid that came to Houston originally.

He is one of the most dedicated athletes I have ever seen. Hope he can stay healthy this summer in China and be ready for a great Rockets season.

OH man this is going to be a fun season!

Yao is looking good, confident, ready to rumble...
That note about Dream wanting to teach Yao is very inspiring and I can only pray that it happens, I think it would be a big jolt for Yao's aggressiveness to hear those words from Dream and learn from him how to be a gentleman off the court but a terminator on the court.

The latest news is Yao Ming will stay out of the exhibition game with USA national team next Monday (August 7) in Guangzhou per doctor's advice.

He will probably play a few games in the 2nd FIBA Stankovic Continental Champion Cup tournament (August 10 ~ 15) in Nanjing. National teams of China, France, Germany, Greece, Australia and Brazil will be competing in that tournament.

So alot of NBA stars to be in China in the 10 days.....

    Pretty disappointing, eh ??

Sorry, I'm confused. How is it that the charity act is credited to Yao Ming when the Organisers are the one that offered the tickets?

If I'm not mistaken, this is the same kid that asked thru media reporter to relay to Team Yao and then Yao Ming that his wish is to be able to see Yao Ming.

So, it is not the organizers that came to know of this sick fan in first place. It has to be from Yao Ming.

I'd love the Dream to be on hands to teach Yao, but other than him, I'd also like Jabbar teaching Yao the sky hook. I was screaming myself hoarse for the Rockets to sign Kareem Abdul-Jabbar when he was looking for a coaching job, and when he signed with the Lakers..............damn, just imagine how many points Yao can be averaging if he mastered the sky hook. does anybody know when does Jabbar's contract with the Lakers run out?

My expected and projected average numbers on Yao 2 years later:

    40 MPG
    28.0 points
    11.5 rebounds
    2.5 assists
    2.0 blocks
    0.5 steals
    0.560 FG%

I truely believe this day will come if The Dream can teach yao on his aggressiveness.

Anyone agrees or disagree with me?

The US players have arrived in Guangzhou, and checked in the 5-star Royal Mediterranean Hotel. They were too tired due to the long haul flight, and cancelled every of the welcome party/press conference scheduled for them.

The China team will arrive tomorrow and will also stay in the same hotel. Yao Ming and Wang Zhizhi will also travel with the team to Guangzhou, and as of latest, both will not play due to injury.

Just to give you guys an idea of how this hotel looks like.....

The China media/reporters and fans were vastly disappointed.....

Very tight security at the airport and the hotel to keep away the media and the fans.

Searched on every of the Chinese basketball websites, and it does not seem too many photos of the US team around.

    Just a few..........
