Seriously, people need to learn how to keep their posts on topic. And if your not going to talk about Bush, at least have the decency to mention Young.
I'm not saying that to defend Reggie, but the Williams- Bush comparison is going to come every week HEAVILY at least for the first year and throughout their careers. Whenever Williams fails to impact the game ESPN will be all over it. Yesterday didnt looks so good for Mario but I hope by seasons end people arent pointing their fingers saying I told you so about Bush.
the broadcast team pointed out that he missed andre johnson on one of those passes to moUlds. we know carr has an accurate arm, we know he has a strong arm, and we know he's tough. what we are going to find out if is he is a good decision maker. the jury's still out.
I was at the game yesterday and had a pretty good time. I think the Texans did pretty good, considering how ineffective they have been in the past during pre-season. Carr ran a few times, because the field was wide open. It kept the drive alive, so I'm not sure why he shouldn't get a little more credit for his mobility. He didn't make any major mistakes and the line protected him well. From then on, it was mostly the Sage and Lundy show. The defense did solid overall. I think the Williams will have a better test against the Rams. Maybe he'll open it up this time, hopefully. As for Reggie Bush: I was a pro-Bush guy in the draft, but take away his 44 yard run and he would have underacheived IMO. Of course you can't take the 44 away and he is expected to pop out big open field runs like that. He only did it once. I expected him to do it at least 5 times. The Texans looked good overall. I'm looking forward to next weeks game to see if they can make it 2 in a row. Go Texans!!!
I second Joshfast's comment. I am glad for the organized offensive line. I am glad for scoring on every quarter. I am glad for the highest preseason game score in the franchise history. I am glad for rushing 176 against their 106. I am glad for no sacks. ¡Vamos, TEXANS!
Nope, don't have the time this year. I still have some friends that are though. Back to the game. I watched this game evaluating the system more than the players. I still think it's too early to evaluate players. I was watching to see the new offensive plays and the new defensive philosopy. I was very encouraged by the new rollout bootleg type plays we were running. I think it plays to Carr's strength, which is throwing on the run AND running. I was encouraged that we didn't give up any sacks. The running game needs some work, but I think if Lundy would have got some time with the 1st team instead of Smith, he would have done much better than he did with the 2nd team. I really like this Lundy kid. He's a north-south runner, which is PERFECT for our offense. They said on the broadcast that he ran this offense while he was in college, so he already knows the in's and out's of it. If DD doesn't watch out, he may end up being a back up this year. Outside of the TD drive we gave up, I was REALLY encouraged by our defense. I think I actually saw a safety blitz, which is something I never saw in the 3-4. Like some others have said, our secondary did surprising well, even with the injuries. We were really swarming to the ball too. That was good to see. Very happy with the win. I know it's just preseason, but I think this team is going to be in every game we play this year. No more Seattle-like blowouts. That's really all you can ask for a year after 2-14. I'm sticking to my 7-9 prediction.
I would like for a lot of things to happen. I would certainly love for David Carr to be an expert in this system in the first quarter of the first game of preseason. I would love for Mario Williams to have a sack on every passing play in his first quarter of professional football in the preseason. Guess what? It didn't happen last night and it's ok. For the 10,000th time, it's the first quarter in a new system in the preseason. Some you guys seem to constantly forget that. Who gives a s*** what Reggie Bush does. That's for another thread in another forum. You people do realize that this system DOES NOT REQUIRE A 1ST PICK RUNNING BACK? Right? Most of the Denver RB's were low round picks. Wali Lundy is going to make a huge name for himself if DD doesn't make a quick comeback. Right now, I start Lundy on week 1. He fits the system better than Smith, who is great for a backup. Believe it or not, Mario Williams is not going to have a sack in every game. That does not make him a bust. Some of you need to relax a little and just enjoy the fact that football is back.
11 plays tells me all I need to know about MW. It tells me he's kicking ... in training camp and has already locked up a primary role on this team. Hence, no need to see more of him than 11 plays. I'm confident we will see him more as the preseason goes on.......just like we see all the starters more as we move towards the regular season. He is going to be a force in this league.
We definitely looked a lot better, but that's not saying a whole lot. 1. The OL looked like it improved the most. The pass protection was good but the run block looked even better. 2. Carr was ok, made some questionable passes at times though and also missed a couple of easy passes. 3. Moulds looked good. 4. Lundy could be a very good back in Kubiak's system. He was great at the one cut and go.
I think someone else mentioned this already, but it bears repeating. The first string offense, and really the whole team for the entire game, had very few penalities. For a team with many new players playing a new system, that is remarkable. Especially considering how sloppy we seemed to play in years previous, with emphasis on the O-line and false starts. Not one single one of those Saturday. I was very encouraged by that. It tells me Kubiak is doing a good job and has these guys focused, even in a preseason game.
I enjoyed the game and had the same good feelings and reservations as the other posters. In addition, I thought the backup QB, Sage, looked good. He seemed, for one game, to be calmer and make better decisions than David. I welcome the Reggie Bush highights on this Texan thread and will in the future. Reggie Bush and Vince Young are part of the story line for this years Texan team.
Is anyone else worried about Kris Brown? All those late season misses last year could easily be explained away in my mind by us going for the # 1 pick (even though I know players don't think that way)....but Saturday both of his PATs looked shaky. His 22 yd FG was fine, but those are gimmies. When the 40 yarder came up, I said to my wife, "I bet he misses this one." Sure enough, wide right. I'm a bit nervous about it, myself.
I only heard the analysis late at night from sports news. Does anyone know how I can watch an entire replay of the game?
