I really didn't notice. Our defensive line really didn't do anything spectacular, but they didn't do anything bad either. Maybe, the DL needs some time to gel together, just like the OL.
Heh.. 15 rushes for 46 yards... then 1 rush for 79 yards. Sounds a lot like the stat sheet Barry Sanders always ended up with.
Guys that impressed me were Lundy, as others have mentioned, Daniels, Ryans and Kalu. Lundy looked like exactly the kind of runner the Broncos running style calls for. He's fast to the hole, but he's patient and waits for his blocking to develop. In that second drive, some really nice, big holes were opened up for him to run through, I was impressed with the right side of the O-line in that series (Weary and Weigart, I believe). Now, if Dominick can't seem to get that knee healthy, I won't be so worried. I would be very comfortable going to war with Wali as our starting RB. I know Lundy's blocking skills were partly in question, and he didn't impress out there. In fact, there was one play where he got absolutely embarassed by some delayed rusher up the middle. But Lundy stuck his nose in there and slowed the guy enough to let Sage make his pass. He gets credit for doing the job even if it wasn't pretty. Owen Daniels looked to have a real knack for finding openings. He didn't seem all that fast when I saw him and he did drop one pass I thought he should have held on to, but overall I was very happy. I predict he is the starting TE by the end of the season. DeMeco wasn't quite as impressive as the others, but he didn't look out of place in the middle linebacker spot, and that is cause for optimism since he will get better. He made one really nice tackle on Larry Johnson that I was impressed by. A couple other plays, he let himself get taken out by some blockers when he probably could have plugged a hole...but again, he will improve. ND Kalu was playing against 2nd and 3rd stringers, so his performance may have to be taken with a grain of salt, but he seemed to get backfield penetration pretty regularly when I was watching. He seemed quite slow when he got into the open field, so fast QBs that can move would probably have no problem avoiding his rush...but just that he got back there is reason for hope. Mario. Well, he didn't do much. I didn't see the play others mentioned where Turley supposedly man-handled him. From what I saw, he seemed to hold his own and I thought I saw one play where he got pretty close to the QB, but it might have been someone else. I'm not worried, though. Everyone that sees him practice raves about him, so the production will come. Our secondary was not exploited at all in this game, which surprised me, with all the injuries. Johnson wasn't having much trouble getting yards on the ground, so maybe they didn't need to throw, but it seemed like almost all the pass plays they got were short yardage save for one play at the end (and I think it was a scrub defending). Much props to the O-line. In the first series, things seemed reversed from last season. Decent pass protection and terrible run blocking. Of course, as Jeff mentioned, Antwoin Smith looked like he absolutely didn't belong out there. He was slow and indecisive. I hope like hell we are never stuck with him as the starting RB. Perhaps had Lundy been running in that first series, my opinion would have been different. Overall, this first game has given me cause for cautious optimism for most of our players. I didn't think Carr looked bad. He made one bad throw, and another that was pretty good (going to AJ) that the linebacker made a heck of a play on, jumping up and tipping it. The rest were kind of short dink passes to Moulds, so not a lot there to base an evaluation on. I will say this about Kansas City. I think they are going to have an excellent defense this season. Edit: Who the hell is Larry Anderson? Teh fixt.
Please don't compare Reggie Bush to Tony Hollings. That's not a good arguement at all. Hollings only has straight line speed, and not quick cut on a dime moves like Bush does. Now if you want to point out that the highlight real run by Bush is a reason that Kubiak didn't want him then I'm fine with that. Kubiak prefers runners that don't dance behind the line of scrimage and likes ones that hit the hole immediately. I understand why Kubiak didn't take Bush because he can find backs that fit his system anywhere. But Bush is going to be a star in this league that you can build your offense around. I just hope Mario Williams turns into a probowl player to ease the pain of having to watch Bush highlights for the rest of his career.
I didn't see the game last night, but from the few highlights of Carr, he looked the same old David Carr, running out of bounds, afraid to make throws and get rid of the football. And from the way Kubiak is criticizing him all of the time and the way he talked about him to Peter King, I think he is still the same old David Carr. Sage Rosenfels has outplayed him the entire offseason, from what I heard about practices and from last night.
That has nothing to do with how blazing fast he got to the outside and made something out of nothing. It is only preseason but who cares, the point is that there were people saying Bush wasn't going to look faster than everybody on the field when he got to the NFL. These people have now been proven wrong. I agree, this is a Texans thread and we really shouldn't be talking about what Bush did etc, but the guy is so explosive and fast it is just unreal to watch and it is hard NOT to talk about. I can't even believe how fast he got to the outside on that clip. He is a game breaker and probably not a bad pickup for your fantasy team if you haven't drafted already. The Texans made a mistake, we will all have to just move on and live with it. It is going to be tough, but as long as the Texans are winning it will help to get over it. I thought the Texans looked pretty solid out there, but then again like i said earlier, it is only preaseason.
You can't make a mistake before a single real game has been played. Sorry. You can predict it, but talking about it as if it's some matter of fact statement based on one run in a completely and utterly meaningless game that nobody cared about is a joke.
Picking Bush for fantasy is like picking a Denver or Houston RB. You aren't going to get good fantasy numbers. Larry Johnson on the other hand....
Why doesn't anyone realize that RB doesn't fit Kubiak's system. If he thinks Morency is a dancer and tries to make too many moves, what do you think his impression of Bush would be in this system. He knows the players he needs and Bush is not one of them. Sure he may be the next Barry Sanders, but what did he accomplish at Detroit? Not a whole lot besides some incredible highlights. The Saints have always been losers just like the Lions and that trend will continue with Bush and his spectacular losing highlights.
for the guys ripping on carr, he only threw five passes for the apologists who say he only threw two bad passes, he only threw five passes.
wow 5 pages, and everyone is jumping on Mario over 11 plays. 11 plays is a low sample size, not to mention that he just had some minor surgery to get his toenails removed. Anyone wanna mention how hard it is to dig your feet in the grass and push around with a toenail injury? About Bush... He got around a slow Titans secondary with one rush. Have you noticed how the two linebackers positioned themselves horribly on that play? That doesn't even include the push in the back by the offense. Finally, the Texans won. Is there nothing better to do?
Hey imadrummer, are you still in the pep band? The Tribute to Space City thing last night was awesome.
On another note, Carr didn't impress me last night. I would like for him to actually complete a pass to Andre Johnson.
Yeah... you tell'em, twoface (nice monicker, btw )... tell them how David Carr only has Andre Johnson as a wide receiver and how he was ALWAYS open
Maybe the Texans missed out on the second coming of Barry Sanders. Bush isn't a Texans, accept it. By the way, How many superbowls did Barry win?
