Matt Jackson said Slaton had a fumbling problem at West Virginia, his stats on espn show no fumbles. does anyone know the truth.
I want to see props for Andre Johnson for two huge TD catches yesterday. Dude made the big plays, and dude scored. Twice. Needs to do that a few more times this year, but come on now. Give him the props.
which is one of the games i was thinking about when i called the team out for underperforming in week's following adoring press. they *have* to win these next two weeks. i can't underscore how important they are in the grand scheme of this franchise. they're better than both teams and they're both at home. no excuse not to be 3-1 (barring unforseen circumstances).
Thoughts on the game. Slaton does indeed need to hit the hold hard and see if he can pop out the other side like CJ did all day long, the pitter patter style he has been going to does not allow him to get in and get out on the other side. It's supposed to be a one cut and go and he seems happy to dance behind the line of scrimmage right now. Kevin Walter needs to hurry back at which point I'd rotate Jacoby and David Anderson at #3 with Andre Davis handling all return duties. Someone mentioned that there appears to be beef between DA and Jacoby and I watched for that yesterday and the argument could be made that there was something there. I would use that to the team's advantage by making them compete for time. Andre Davis just needs to contribute somehow with that rather large contract for a 4th wideout, special teams would be his niche, sorry Jacoby. Defensively, I'd also get Okam involved more as the Dline is still in need of a big body to make a mess of the pile. Deljuan wasn't able to do that and that is why CJ kept popping out the other side of the scrum. The secondary was better with Wilson back but I still believe average is the best we can hope for with this group back there. I also have to give credit to Kubiak and his staff, going into Tenn after last week's performance it would have been easy to roll over and accept 0-2 but that attitude was nowhere to be found even after coming out a taking it on the chin a few times. This team never quite fighting, literally, and I have to give major credit to a staff I was ready to fire after last week's no show. Great game, anytime ole' mutton chops gets ass raped I love it. Suck it Bud.
Andre deserves props. That one catch where he tipped the ball with one hand was incredible. And the Jets deserve credit for shutting down Andre and Schaub last week. They did the same to Moss and Brady this week. When is the last time Brady completed under 50% of his passes? The Jets are just really good this year so far.
He's not particularly great at fielding punts either. I recall a game two years ago, I think it was at home against the Titans, that he muffed one that essentially cost the game. I think it was that game we had that crazy comeback and still ended up losing.
Mario only got 1 sack, but I watched the game again last night and he was in the backfield (affecting Collins) on just about EVERY SINGLE passing down. He was making their tackles look like blocking dummies, just bull-rushing them right into the QB. I mean, it wasn't even close. It was a thing to behold. Like others here, I am also worried that the Texans are going to spend all week reading and hearing about how great they are and how the jags don't stand a chance....then get throttled come game day when the jags don't lay down. I hope I’m wrong, but it certainly wouldn’t be unprecedented. But man, what a great win. Beating those moonshine runnin' inbreeders from Tennessee is never a bad thing.
yeah, I saw ESPN had no fumbles recorded, but if I remember correctly, he had 1 season (possibly his senior year) when he had quite a few fumble Jones has one of the best return averages for punts in the league. but he does have a hard time holding on to the ball
he's amazing. if you really want the full mario experience, see a game live; he's a physical marvel and just relentless, sideline to sideline. cushing looks like a similiar high-motor guy; i hope he pans out. those two guys and ryans is a nice foundation - now they need 8 more guys that can play.
kubiak seems convinced they have a handle on the problem and will have it fixed. i'm not making excuses but new york and tennessee have two really good run defenses (6 and 2 this year; 7 and 6 last year).
They blitzed some but not early in the game. By that time they'd let Schaub get into a rythmn and he's very good when that happens. The book on him says that if you hit him hard and early, he gets skittish as the Jets showed. Not that I'm complaining at all mind you. And major props to Shannahan for exploiting the Titans' LBs. And I still maintain that there's something not quite right with Cecil's defensive strategy but that's his/their problem.
Nooo, you're already stating that they are "on a pace" to be 3-1 with 6-2 a possibility at the mid-season turn. If that's your position then cool. I'm just advising a bit of caution. There's an awful lot of football still to be played and the Texans have to show it to me on the field before I start to believe. Well, I guess you can call me crazy then because the last time I looked, games were determined by what happens on the field and wins weren't awarded to the team that appeared to be better on paper. Like I said before, I have seen enough of this team to realize that you just never know which team will be showing up on Sunday. All 4 of the games you have placed in the WIN category carry the potential of being tough, close games. They could indeed go 6-2 at the break but they could just as easily go 4-4. I liked what I saw yesterday a lot but I haven't ODed on the battle red koolaid so I need to see this type of effort on a consistent basis before I start awarding them wins because they appear to be the better team on paper. They maybe who we thought they were but they still have a long way to go. Now, if they are who YOU think they are, then you are right on the money but as for ME, I consider them far too unpredictable to be so certain. And why all the hate for the Raiders? Isn't it punishment enough they are forced to have Dracula, er Al Davis for an owner? Slaton's problem is known as haud foramen (Translation: NO HOLES). I really can't blame him for that because I see him getting hit either in the backfield or right at the line of scrimmage. You'll notice that he did pretty well when they get the ball to him in space which is one reason why I disagree with the way he's being used.
Wasn't he the one who also said on the pregame show that the Texans' OL was better than the Steelers' OL? I nearly bust a gut laughing on that one - I mean which OL is wearing Super Bowl rings right now? That sounds like the same stuff I keep hearing up here about Tony Romo being in the league of Peyton Manning, Tom Brady & Troy Aikman.
The Steelers OL is not that special and has been criticized for two+ years now. Winning a superbowl doesn't make the individual components of your team necessarily good. Trent Dilfer has a SP ring but that doesn't make him better than a QB without one.
