Cushing is fun to watch he seems to have an extra gear that special players have. Granted i've only seen him a few times but I think we got a stud...
BTW, Jets looked good ,er no great (beat the highly touted Patriots)...I hate to say it but titans might just start out 0-3 as good as they are...VY to the rescue at least for them... Jags, Raiders...I'll take 3-1 for the 1st quarter of the season. Go Texans!
Well we lost to the Raiders last time we played them. Also, Jags division rival so anything goes there.
do you know how many qbs this can be said of, its the same old thing, same with david carr who you believed in till the end. if he had time, blah, blah, blah. Does mark sanchez need time. a qb needs pocket presence. I'm not railing on schaub, he is good when he has time, but so are 80% of the qbs in this league.
So, you think every QB who has time should throw for 300+ and 4 TD's every time? Of course I know that you can't expect a QB to be able to drop back every pass attempt, and be given the chance to survey the field on every pass attempt. However, its still up to the QB to be able to execute the play... find the guy who has the advantage... look off stray defenders who may be trying to make a play.... and then, ultimately, hit the guy in the numbers with the ball.... which is what Matt Schaub did with perfection today. You saw how Tom Brady looked today against a Jets defense that didn't give him much time to make plays? Are you going to question his pocket presence? Same goes with Peyton Manning when his line fails to protect him. I would venture to say 95% of the QB's who don't consistently get time, or have a pocket developed, end up being rendered as insignificant. Its how those QB's handle the team and make plays in those games where they don't get much protection that ultimately separates the QB success stories from the failures, or David Carr. But I still stand by the fact that virtually no QB short of Brett Favre, John Elway, or Steve Young IN THEIR PRIMES could have done anything with the hapless, non-talented, poorly coached offensive line of the expansion Texans. And they thought a rookie could develop into that. So many mistakes... no need to delve much further.
The offense as a whole should have to deal with it... not just the QB. There were zero adjustments made from a game-plan standpoint last week, when they clearly should have done so. The Patriots suffered the same fate this week.
nice calling up a bunch of guys who could run as well as throw. I'm talking about just being mobile. joe montana was mobile. yes brady didn't look well today but Brady usually does well in pressure. peyton isn't mobile but he makes up for it by getting the ball out quickly because he is such a good student of the game but schaub was also throwing to wide open receivers. four touchdowns, andre makes a great catch in the corner, titans blow coverage on andre, the coaching staff you keep ripping makes a great call on the dainels td, and jacoby makes a great catch. it was a great game but yes, most of these guys wouldn't be in the league if they couldn't make the throws schaub made. that's why guys like mario williams get drafted #1 and get millions guranteed.
going back to sanchez, who shocked me the way he played, they did a breakdown of a play on espn's nfl countdown. he sidestepped a blitz up the middle by the our linebacker (can't remember who) and steps into the throw. and what tom jackson and ditka was so impressed with is the KID didn't even look back to see where the linebacker ran passed him or didn't seem to be concerned where he was. pocket presence
Yea, but if you consistently pressure those guys, they will consistently be ineffective and make mistakes.. no matter how much presence they have. Luckilly, they play on teams that are good enough (and have enough talent) to the point that you either can't put pressure without getting burned, or they're good enough to adjust to it and change the gameplan up to counteract it. Schaub has his limitations... we don't know how good he is at reading defenses, because TPTB don't seem to be stressing audibiling (for whatever reason). He can get happy feet and get flustered when the team gets consistently pressured (where audibilizing may help). And if he is chased out of the pocket, he is damn slow. However, I am impressed with his ability to hit the timing routes, his accuracy on the slants as well as the deep throws, his decent TD to INT ratio, and his overall presence. The goal is to get the offense to be versatile enough so that you don't have to change the gameplan drastically week to week depending on who you play... but to make the other team adjust (which Tennessee clearly did not do). This is the first time the Texans have had enough talent on offense to actually be capable of that (but they are still vulnerable to letdowns like last week, and Baltimore last year, that they have to be better to beat them).
I want to keep it Texans talk, but I don't know what I'm more impressed with Mark Sanchez or the new 21st century "46" type Jets defense...What I certainly have noticed is #24...If you are going to blitz a lot, you gotta have a top 3 corner, and the Jets have that... Going forward the Texans need to take notice and ensure we prioritize that area in future drafts. i.e. #1 pick
Kubiak gave the game ball to Bruce Matthews. Pretty cool. (on what was said in the locker room to create a big cheer) I don’t know what I said. I gave Bruce Matthews the ball. To be honest with you, that’s probably when you heard the roar. I told him welcome to our side. That’s probably when you heard the roar.
I found this comment by Kubiak to be particularly interesting from your link: (on the difference in the offense from last week) I think we just kind of got back to some of our tempo, some of the things we do. We still didn’t run the ball very well. We felt like we have a beat on some of the reasons why. Not going to go into those, I’m going to try to fix those. We just kind of went back to some of our base stuff and things that our players were comfortable with because we were making too many mistakes. I think tempo and just how we play, speed of how we practiced made us play a little better. I'd like to know why, but for us to have 10+ wins, we have to have the run game perform better on YPC...If Kubiak has a beat on why after the fact then I expect to see something different...
NFL Network to Replay game on Tues 7pm. Awesome...with replay you get to hear comments from players and coaches on certain plays. Sweet!!!!!
A lot of it has to do with Slaton's decision making thus far on (excuse the euphimism) hitting the hole with authority. He's been waaay to hesitant thus far when he gets the ball.... dancing in the back field. Also, the line has faced a decent enough challenge the first two games... definitely two of the upper echelon front fours. Which makes it even more baffling how we couldn't run, yet the play-action fooled the secondary almost every single freaking time today.
