The Giants started 0-2 in 2007, and it looked like Coughlin was going to be run out of town by season's end. They went 10-6 and won the Super Bowl. This was following an 8-8 year. Not that we're as talented as they were, but if we come out and are competitive Sunday and just lose to a good team (in a game that we were expected to lose for the most part), I don't think we can write them off. Even people that were predicting 12-4 wrote this one up as a loss. Now if they play as bad as they did last weekend, then yes, playoffs will seem very, very unlikely.
Someone posed a question to me yesterday. Of the unemployed superbowl winning coaches, who would you want? I say Cohwer first then Holgrem(spelling?). I would not want Shannahan or Gruden.
It's Holmgren... I have no clue. It seems no coach is a guarantee. Ditka, for example, was pretty much worthless in NO. Would I take how the Steelers have built and established themselves over the Oilers and Texans added together? Well of course! But hiring Cowher won't magically make that happen. As has been pointed out, the personnel is built on this WCO knockoff and the 4-3 defense. Speaking of which, remember how happy we were to get away from the 3-4? Honestly, I think talent and effective coaching mean more than scheme. (even though scheme is a part of coaching)
The "Houston Broncos" is a huge misconception and I'm getting pretty tired of hearing people bring it up. We do run the same offense, but half our players are former broncos? Let's see...there's Chris Myers, Nick Ferguson, and ummm...that's about it. At least of the significant players. 2 starters out of 22.
yeah, it's not the personnel...it's the system. just curious...how many other teams run the whole zone blocking scheme??
Ah, Wikipedia! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zone_blocking Not listed are the Texans and the Seahawks, who just started it this year with Mora taking over (I'm assuming he picked it up in Atlanta passed on from Gibbs' time there). Julius Jones had a big first week, though it was against the Rams. Interesting to think about some of the running backs that have become big names, but were not high draft picks- Portis (both in Denver and Washinton in the ZBS), Slaton, and Ryan Grant. The Panthers also use it and are one of the best rushing teams in the league.
LOL, I also saw Chester get thrown down like a rag doll a couple times. Pretty embarrassing when they then call you out after the game for being a finesse team.
The Jets watched their game tapes and so will the Titans. There was something very predictable about the way we were abused by basics like the screen pass. Didin't help that Kubiak fell on the grenade afterwards and blamed himself. I appreciate backing your team and I know blowouts happen but no one should get their heads handed to them by a team they had months to plan for. I like Kubiak but I'm not sure that Shanahan and Bush are the right choices for coordinators. Sunday's not looking too good for us...
I'm on Arizona. Is there a good site on the internet that I can watch the game tommorrow? I tried Justintv last week andd it would'nt start even after I put the password in and it still did'nt work. Would appreciate the help.
I live in Tennesse now so don't shoot me. I was a long time Oilers fan while I lived in Houston. Moved to Tennesse same year The Oilers moved. The thing is, it seems like the Texans are always playing under their respective talents. You guys, on paper, have a heck of a team. But you all seem to always get off to terrible starts.
There is no offense taken there. Your just speaking the truth. The Texasns are gonna have to prove thier worth on paper before they ever get any national respect, and deservingly so. If they don't ever improve any more than they have over the last few years, I would'nt blame a Mario Williams for leaving when his contract is up.
Sig bet anyone who thinks texans will win? Sig will stay there until next titans game.. good luck, hopefully its a good/clean game on both sides and the titans win.
