4-1 record as a starter isn't garbage time. Also when the guy with the 4-1 got into the game when the other starter was knocked out of it, he always seemed to manage the game better and make the score closer. Now the career stats are starting to lean toward the 4-1 guys way - better QB rating, TD %, TD-INT ratio, times sacked, career record as a starter (4-3 as compared to 4-11 for the other guy)...It was just based off of what we're seeing that Sage made a case for himself, but it might be more a case now that the stats are backing him up. In Sage's total career attempts, which adds up to about a 13-14 game David Carr season, he's gotten sacked a total of 10 times ever. Shaub's gotten sacked 8 times this year already. (Carr would have got sacked around 14 times based on %)
So Vince, in his third year as a starter and with the team, has time to come around, but Schaub, in his second year as a starter and with the team, doesn't? Regardless of what your personal theories are, the reality is that they both suck badly right now.
Stop being surprised that Texans fans on a Houston sports BBS don't like you. When your ratio of jerk to reasonable posts is like 25 to 1, can you blame people for not liking you? This victim act you're running right now is just pathetic. This is a free country- if you want to be a tedious asshat then, by all means, go for it. Just don't expect people to be thrilled to have you around. Didn't your parents ever teach you that?
relishing pissing people off and being a glutton for attention are some pretty chief aspects of a troll. you're not fighting this very hard.
It's strange that after all this time the Texans still don't have an identity. The Steelers you know are going to play pressure D and run the ball. The Titans are going to get really physical with you and play smashmouth. The Colts are going to let Peyton pick you apart and they have great speed on defense. The Jags are going to run the ball and grind it out on defense. The Texans don't have a good enough running game to be a running team and they don't have a good enough quarterback to be a passing team. Their running game isn't even good enough to be a good play action passing team. The defense can't pressure the quarterback so the secondary gets shredded and they get pushed all over the field by a good running game. Basically, they're not really good at any one thing and they're not consistent enough in all facets to beat good teams. We're going to beat up on the bad teams and get a bunch of false hope from it but the bottom line is we're just not talented enough to be a playoff team and until the head coach puts a stamp on this team and what type of team it's going to be then we'll not really know who we are and how we're going to win.
Best post in this thread. I know we're only 2 games in, but I'm starting to think 8-8 last year was a fluke - much like the season we went 7-9 and everyone got their hopes up, only to go 2-14 the very next year. This is a team that can beat really bad teams but just gets TOTALLY OUTCLASSED by good teams and beaten by average teams. By definition, that means we are below average. Still.
if this team didn't waste so much in resources trying to get a franchise qb, they'd be pretty good now. slaton is impressive, he did that against the titans defense which is pretty stout. he's going to be a steal. give it time, if schaub didn't play them out the game it would have been fairly close.
Schaub has time, but he is just scared, and basically can not absorb a hit very well. VY also has lost his confidence, and he needs to kick his mama to the curb and get that swagger back... The comment was more of a tongue in cheek one anyway. DD
After the game yesterday, my wife asked me if I still wanted Texan tickets for my birthday. It's kind of a tradition. I told her I'd have to get back to her about it.
Somebody help me out here with one of the NFL's rule changes. During the 7 or 8 minutes of this game that I could stomach, I saw what I *knew* I was going to see when I heard about this effort by the NFL to get rid of "judgment calls" by referrees. I believe the new rule is, two feet in bounds no matter what; no more "pushed out by the defender" because that's a "judgment call". So, I see AJ go airborne on a Schaub throw (maybe he overthrew it, but that *used* to be a strategic play when you have an Andre Johnson on your team--throw it high so your guy can jump higher than than the DB and make the reception). AJ was clearly in bounds--by like 18 inches even--when he made the catch. The DB gave him a good shove (which he should have done), and AJ landed out of bounds. AJ was at least three feet off the ground when he was shoved. What a complete BS rule. DBs don't even have to defend competently on the sideline anymore--just stay remotely close, and give the guy a good shove when the ball arrives. Not that it would have made much difference in the game (boy, our Texans SUCK), but the "rule" just seems stupid as hell to me. It seems to me college football has a much, much better rule in place (one foot, right?). Anyway, after the ramble, can some of you who know much more than me (a baseball-first guy) shed some light on this for me? Thanks and kudos.
I hate to say it, but the Texans are the Aggie of the NFL. They just can't get on track. I think you have to give Schaub some more chances, not much more, but a little. Good thing they kept Sage
That sux...I haven't been able to see the two games so far, but by the sounds of it, they suck...How much longer does Kubiak have? Is this season it...
well, you can't be scared of a rush when you're scared to go back into the game. freakin' Texans stunk it up...ugh! i'm all for Sage at this point.
you know, honestly, when i think of you i think "troll". but you weren't like this, or maybe i'm just misremembering, until Vince Young was drafted by the Titans. now that he can't even start, i guess you have to keep up your image.
I have a question about a "false start" penalty on the Texans. maybe it's already been discussed somewhere but this is the first time i've had internet access since Friday. anyhow, Texans were called for a false start late in the game but for some reason the refs let the play go on. i dont' remember the result of the play, but if i recall, the penalty was declined. don't all "false starts" kill the play and the team automattically penalized 5 yards?
And Schaub doesn't? Isn't this like his 2nd season as a starter? I agree that they BOTH have time to turn it around. Schaub just looks so different out there than he did to start last season. VY need to learn to throw the ball, and that he can't just run all over all the D's in the league like when he was in College.
Perhaps that was just the point at which he realized fully just how horrible the Texans are as a franchise. They make some inexplicably bad football decisions. I know speaking for myself I tried becoming a Texans fan but it finally reached a point that I could not stand to root for a team that kept making so many idiotic moves. As a Texan therefore I cheer for the only legitimate football team in the state, which is the Cowboys.
