You're likely right...The DL by Pittsburgh made the game look downright silly because of their effectiveness...It neutralized the running game, caused turnovers and frankly the Texans players showed zero excitement from the start.
i know you're being facetious, but this is actually not true. since 2002, the broncos have used 4 day 1 picks on RBs, a fact apparently lost on kubiak, who continues to make finding a running back a low priority. to a degree, i understand not wanting to overpay the position, especially if you're stil 4-5 players/1-2 years away. and i think the schaub trade has compromised their drafting strategy, too - not having 2nd rounders in two consecutive drafts is tough (and why i've always been luke-warm to the deal). but kubiak/smith need to be more proactive about finding a game-breaking back. they never even sniffed michael turner, trading down, and out of mendenhall and the kid from tennessee....
How about Alonzo Highsmith? Or maybe Gary Brown? 'Memmer that game against Cleveland? Dudes. Freakin' please cut Ahman Green. Please drop him. He's no good to us.
the team has to sell itself to a fan base; you're not going to get too many realistic appraisals of where they are and what they think. but the truth is that their QB is still unproven; they have no gamebreaking RBs; the OL is learning a new system and starting a rookie LT; they have no one who can rush the passer (other than MW); their LBs (other than DR) are average; their secondary is undermanned and hurting; they have no playmakers on defense overall (other than MW and DR), especially with dunta out... gary kubiak inherited a very, very, very bad football team. "playoffs" talk got everyone excited and interested, but i personally never thought they had a chance and that was BEFORE i saw their first 5 games. their division is just too tough right now. no one should be surprised. there's only so much you can do in an offseason. i think they've made tremendous strides in a pretty short amount of time, but this team is far from complete - they have a ways to go; i don't think even one more offseason will be enough. i suspect they'll win 6-8 games. the ravens game should be a better indicator of where they are. the steelers are an elite team - that's a tough opener.
I tend to not agree with you quite a bit, but I 100% agree with this post. The schedule alone should have killed playoff talk. I was a bit worried that there would be too much enthusiasm and expectations of a 10 win season. Let's see how they recover this week and perform at home. Baltimore's offense does not offer nearly the challenge that Pittsburgh does. Hopefully, Mario continues his all-world play and the rest of the defense gets a chance to contribute...
And it was against a very good Steelers team. The entire team played like crap so there's no excuse but man do the Steelers look good, if they can play like that, they'll be contending for a SB for sure IMO.
With Brady going down and the Colts looking like s***, I'd put them as the current favorites in the AFC. I can't see anyone in the AFC North being able to stay with them.
I'm sure the Colts will get much better as the season progresses but I agree. Not to mention that both the Chargers and Jags lost games they probably should've won.
steelers fan and for the record I've never lived in houston at all i live out in california but when i started following football years ago i liked teams in general that ran the football and played tough defense. the steelers fit that mold so i started watching them more and more and also near my parents house there was a sports grill that had a lot of steeler fans who would go there to watch games so that influenced me to as a young kid. so yeah we looked really good yesterday hopefully we can continue it next sunday at cleveland.
The Steelers looked like an angry dog with a rag doll. Are they that good, or the Texans that bad? Probably somewhere in between. If the Ravens run over them like they are not there, then what? This Texans team may not be that talented but they could play with more emotion. It was the Steelers who looked hungry. The Houston fan base so want to be electrified by their team, the Texans electrocute them instead. Disappointment gets real old when it keeps happening over a period of years. And, finally, while it is certainly not all his fault, I see nothing special about Shaub, never did, still don't.
Ahman Green having tests for ankle problems This has to be the last straw, right? He literally can't stay healthy for more than a game, and it's not like he's a game-changer when he is playing. I think it's time to just let him go and move on. Lots of speculation that Benson is coming in tomorrow for a workout.
Says in the article that neither Benson nor Shaun Alexander will be brought in. I have a feeling that it will be Mike Bell.
