Look at what happened when the Redskins kicker missed from 52; the Texans got the ball in excellent field position, which is what Kubes didn't want to give Washington. If what folks are saying is true (that Rackers was kicking short into that end of the field in pre-game and during kickoffs), then Kubes made the right call, regardless of a win or a loss. We would have been in a better position to stop the Redskins deep in their own end of the field rather than close to mid-field.
After this game, I believe we will have the worst pass defense, but the best run defense. Quite the anomaly when you think about it.
The announcers mentioned Rackers had passed a kidney stone recently. He might not have been at full strength.
Rackers had that kidney stone ( a few days ago) so maybe that might have played a role in Kubes' decision? Regardless, I still had hoped we were going to kick it... but in hindsight that was a pretty good call. Kubes' knew his kicker, put his trust in the defense, and bet that the rookie kicker with a career long of 49 would not make the kick.
I dont think the secondary is as bad as the stats indicate. I think certain players are the cause. Kareem Jackson has been flat out horrible and has been picked apart by opposing QBs in both games. Quin Pollard, and Wilson have not done anything to make me think they have played particularly poorly and they are having to cover for Kareem a lot. The coverage skills of the linebackers has also bee horrendous. Diles has made quite a lot of mistakes and Adibi has made a TON. With Cush back I expect some of this to improve.
YES wat a come behind game. i was screaming when the skins had the fg attemp "KICK IT TOTHE RIGHT TO THE RIGHT, YES YES!!!!"      2-0 now to move on to the cowgirls
Wow, down 17 at the end of the 3rd and the Texans' stars stepped up... Shaub went lights out, AJ couldn't be denied, Mario became a beast and freaking Pollard made HUGE plays. Awesome win! Texans with AFC Player of the Week two weeks in a row?
I think the reason why our secondary got burned this game was because we got no pressure on McNabb. The second half (really the fourth quarter), we got a lot more pressure and our secondary looked better.
First the Colts game, now this one...I have the feeling I'm going to have quite the arsenal of unbelievable Texans games by the end of this season on my DVR
I see your point but consider this: Kubiak did indeed play to win when he called that time out. His gambit worked as the kid shanked the kick to the right. And Shanahan playing to win, left the Texans in great field position which is what would have happened had Kubiak gone for the FG with a shaky kicker. And I did like the message he sent to the defense by sending them out there to secure the win because let's face it: they got roasted out there today. But I'm OK with the way Kubiak managed the game today. At the end of the day, a head coach has to trust his instincts and I'm OK with that. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. Today it worked. That's life in the NFL.
i could accept that but our defense was giving up chucks of yards all game long. WAS wins if not for a Mcnabb overthrow when our CBs got burned, again.
I think it's been somewhat overlooked considering our defensive troubles today, but Mario had 3 SACKS today (although Smith got a late hit after the last one). 4 sacks on the year for Super Mario.
He also knows that Washington's best lineman went out with an injury, and the defense had a decent shot of holding them (which they almost did not). Also, its not the worry that Rackers can't hit a 50 yard FG... its the worry that he may miss one in OVERTIME, which is hypercritical due to the field position you give the other team with sudden death rules. If this was the first or second quarter, or its a two possesion deficit or lead, I bet he takes a shot.
