It's good to be lucky and play the Oakland Raiders. I wonder what the mood around here would have been had this backfired and caused them to lose the game. This BBS would have exploded.
From what I know he was disciplined last season also for missing a meeting before the Jacksonville game. Dude needs to get an iPhone app that verbally reminds him about team meetings. I don't think we are looking at the next TO here as the guy appears to have all of his oars in the water (although I can't say the same about Cushing). Now if we were talking about Dez Bryant (that dude is a Michael Irvin starter kit)...
i don't agree with the benching of Arian Foster but if we had lost this game even after scoring 31 points, that's on the defense.
It's on him, not Kubiak. I get the argument that some would prefer fines instead of the benching, but that's a personal call Kubiak made. I'm sure he knew he had a choice, and decided that this would be more effective. And given how well the O-Line and Ward did, it's going overboard pulling the what if card. If you're mad at someone, be mad at the guy that blew off his responsibilities to the team because he started getting full of himself. Focus on the positives - this team was missing or only got part time effort from numerous key/critical players, and we still played extremely well on the road for a win. Focusing on b****ing about Kubiak's decision is a little much.
Haters gonna hate. That's all I think when reading this drivel. Cushing and Brown have gotten/are getting their punishments. You want more? Well, tough s***. We're fans. If we can't get excited about the likelihood that the team we're a fan of gets better when these players come back, then what's the point of being a fan at all? They were punished. That's the end of it. Were you in the locker room at any given time this season? A part of any meetings? Anywhere near the team? No, you weren't. You don't know what really happened with Foster and why this was done. None of us do. They probably aren't going to make it public either because there's nothing to gain from throwing him under the bus. He got his punishment and, again, that's the end of it. Let it go.
You really have it in for Cushing, don't you? The dude took PEDs, served his time, and is ready to blow people up next week. Minimal harm done. He's tested clean through most of last year, the offseason, and so far through this season. Dude's a stud player and he's motivated, so you'd better better get on his bandwagon quick. If it ever happens again, then we have an issue.
Again, who's mad here. Not me. Nor am I "b****ing about Kubiak's decision". I am merely making the observation that it was fortuitous for Kubiak to use the Oakland game to draw his line in the sand with Foster as the Raiders are not good at stopping the run. Hence, the Texans' running game did not suffer from his absence. But please explain: why are you and the others here so certain that Foster had begun to get to get "full of himself"? Where did you get this information? As for Kubiak, I have be up front all along that I am just not sold on him and remain deeply skeptical of him as a head coach.
So you do have a bias... hmm... As far as Foster goes, missing meetings is missing meetings. I don't care what the reason is... if he's getting full of himself, or if he's late due to car trouble, or if he's just not one for meetings.... I don't care. I'd rather not have the problems (or add to the problems) that other teams are routinely plagued with. The last thing this team needs is distractions... Also the fact that the system is deep enough to not miss a beat running the ball (even if it was just the Raiders) is testament to Kubiak, Dennison and the zone blocking scheme.
The only drivel I see here is a posting like yours where you don't bother to read what the other guy has posted. Show me where I asked for more punishment for Cushing and Brown. Go on, I'll wait. Also, if your reading comprehension matched your arrogance, you'd have understood that I was taking issue with folks equating Foster with idiots like TO & Ocho5 while at the same time gleeping over the return of Cushing - a guy who's done far more harm getting suspended by the league than a guy who misses meetings. That is ALL I said. For the record: I am not mad or upset because to be so implies some sort of emotional commitment. I am not that emotionally invested with the Texans as I was with the Oilers. I suppose anyone who doesn't drink the koolaid is a hater in your book. I have noticed a growing intolerance around here for opinions that don't conform to the company line. I find such attitudes dangerous because of the polarization that can result.
Since when is skepticism a bias? I've been publicly skeptical of Kubiak from the start primarily because the David Carr fiasco. Then it was his adherence to the pure ZBS and use of throwaway RBs like Ahman Green that yielded little to no running game. Also a lot of his coaching decisions during games have left me scratching my head. Hence, I am not sold on him as a head coach just yet. Now how is that bias? If what you say is true, then I agree. After all, he supposedly got dinged last season for missing meetings as well. But where did everyone get the impression that Foster's ego was becoming inflated? That whole argument caught me completely by surprise because the guy is so quiet. But it WAS the Raiders which is why the run game didn't miss a beat. All I can say is thank God for clueless owners like Al Davis who hire equally clueless coaches like Tom Cable.
I was willing to give Cushing a pass until he concocted that whole "over-training" excuse. That whole deal with McNair & Cushing petitioning the Commish left a sour taste in my mouth because it was just silly. Dude should have just STFU, stayed off YouTube and done his suspension. His "psycho LB" act doesn't wash with me.
HillBoy, I've agreed with you more and more lately after what happened last season, but I'm not sure where you're coming from on this one. It's almost as if you're saying "well, we beat the Raiders....BUT WHAT IF WE DIDN'T??" Spoiler <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/y8Kyi0WNg40?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/y8Kyi0WNg40?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> No one here is claiming we're the 72 Dolphins. Yes, we have problems and we're probably not going to finish the season 15-1 on the way to the Superbowl. But, in the words of Iceman from the 1986 smash hit movie Top Gun... "Whose side are you on?"
The bottom line is that we beat the Raiders without our best player by a touchdown, and took control of the game in the 2nd half. Nitpicking over sitting Arian Foster for a quarter and a half is silly. I'm sure the Texans have an internal policy on this kind of thing, and barring a legitimate excuse this could happen to anyone. And it's very possible that Foster has had issues with his timeliness on a regular basis, and this was his proverbial "third strike". That's just the way it's got to be if the coaches are going to be in control of the team.
@Hillboy - you're saying you're not going hater on Kubiak....yet you admit you don't think he's good coaching material and you're very obviously all over his nuts about his decision to bench Foster. You want to know "what kind of message he's going to send" to Cushing/Brown since they were busted for PEDs and while you're really suggesting it's hypocritical of Kubiak to bench Foster but not them, I get how others read that as you wanting them to receive more punishment. They got suspended for 4 games. When has a team ever tossed extra punishment on a player already suspended by the league? Doesn't hold water any way you try and go with it. Any report that's gone into detail on Foster missing the meeting has strongly inferred it wasn't car trouble, alarm clock not going off, or some other slip. They've strongly hinted that he dismissed them willfully, and that he's been like that in the past "when things have been going his way." Texans faced adverse conditions on the road and won. Hooray. Move on and start thinking about how we're going to keep Schaub from being crushed like an empty can of soda by the Giants' front four.
If Derrick Ward and Steve Slaton weren't gashing the Raiders in the first quarter, I think Foster would have come in on the 2nd series. The Kubiak bashers aren't considering this. If Ward and Slaton had been ineffective, I bet we would have seen Foster a lot sooner. Truth is, we didn't need him until the 2nd.
I'd like to think I'm not among the Kubiak bashers. I questioned the decision to sit him. But it worked out...no harm.
that's a good point. I still don't see why people have such an issue with this whole deal. Win or lose, I have no problem a player being held acountable for his actions.
Missing a meeting and being late for another one in the same week is a red flag in every line of work. Come on now.
