I remember watching the Dolphins/Jets game last week and Wilson was getting abused again so the Jets moved Wilson into the slot and in coverage vs the TE. It seemed that he played A LOT better after that, wonder if Kubes would do something like that or if it is even possible with our "D".
Well, the conservativeness on the next drive was the result of being too aggressive on the drive before. One thing this team needs to learn is are they a passing team or a running team. They honestly don't know. I don't think anybody knows. Last year, they could do whatever they wanted with throwing the ball... despite not having a running game at all. This year, they have a vastly improved running game... but it is not translating into an improved passing game. I think teams are picking up on the play-action roll-outs and covering those options pretty well. Also, Owen Daniels is probably at ~70%, which you could then ask why he's even out there. In the end, they're likely to be more successful (both in the regular season, and playoffs), by being able to run the ball whenever they want... even when the other team is expecting it. No longer should they feel they have to showcase the run just to set up the pass. If anything, its becoming more vice versa.
I'm not worried. I think Foster got the message today. Especially when Derrick Ward and Steve Slaton were successful running while Foster was on the bench.
McCain is our nickel corner right now and he really hasn't looked any better. The one CB gaffe that I really remember today is McCain's holding penalty on the Raiders last drive.
Yeah, Schaub never looked comfortable to me rolling out to day. He frequently had to retreat some to avoid defenders before firing off a pass. But I do think the rollouts aided in us not giving up a sack and in Matt avoiding getting hit.
Some amusing tweets... Adam_Schefter ----And Raiders QB Bruce Gradkowski has gone to the locker room after Tom Brady's friend Bernard Pollard clobbered him on the right shoulder. Adam_Schefter ----To all those people that cursed themselves for starting Arian Foster -- he now has 27 fantasy points. Despite missing one full quarter markschlereth @Adam_Schefter ------I hope I'm playing vs Foster in fantasy. markschlereth--- Forget what I said about playing Foster!
Jackson had a decent game today, but only bc the raider receivers are jokes. Jackson got lucky that he didn't give up that TD pass in the first half...he played that horribly. The dude has a long way to go.
The Texans had the worst run defense in the league last year after 3 weeks. We all know how that turned out. I'm not too worried about Jackson. He had his best game of the season, and like mentioned earlier had some good plays go unnoticed. I'm not the only one saying Nolan might help turn things around like Pollard did last year. That Cushing guy might help just a wee bit too.
I'd just like to give props to my boy Turk. His punts were pretty much perfect today. Coverage was really good too, save for the opening kickoff.
I heard Arian on Winston's call-in show this last week and they posed the question "Do you think that you should have gotten more carries? (in the cowboy game)". Arian said that he was just a tool and it was up to the coaches how much he's used. He then made a comment to the effect that the line has been doing a great job. I didn't hear anything that was "selfish" from him at all. So given today's news, I was thrown for a little bit of a loop. I bet he's having to fight through the temptation to puff himself up, but I think the mistakes that he made this week will be the last for him. I bet he's learned his lesson. He's had to work so hard to get to this point so I'm sure that he appreciates where he is. Plus he knows that he has to finish strong and keep his head on straight so that he can get a new contract at the end of the season.
It's great to have the Texans in sole possession of first place in the AFC South. More importantly, the Texans are currently in the #2 spot in the AFC. We're above the Ravens, Jets and Steelers since we have a better conference record. The announced attendance today was 32,218. That's the smallest crowd to see a Raiders game in Oakland since 1967 (replacement player games excluded). For the Gus Johnson lovers out there, he will call the Texans game in two weeks when we host the Chiefs.
Agreed. He's much slower and his cuts are not crisp. I was happy to see Dreessen get a lot of grabs today, so it seemed like he was on the field more often than Daniels. Was that actually the case?
Daniels had a hammy strain during the week. I'm surprised he suited up at all. He should be pretty close to 100% by the end of the season, and lighting up enemy LBs in the playoffs.
I wouldn't say 70% I would say OD is maybe 50% at best right now. He looks BAD out there. He has no acceleration and simply cannot make cuts right now. Luckily the Texans have a lot of depth at receiver, but I am not sure he will ever be back to his old self.
Every bootleg and unsuccessful play action saw Schaub running away and back towards his own end zone. You can tell he was definitely choosing the "no sack, no contact after throw" route over making the play. Easy choice to make since he saw how the running game was going.
