JJ could be cut if he doesn't get act together. If he does make the team, he won't active on gamedays because Anderson has clearly moved ahead of him on the depth chart.
Slaton looked really good tonight, he was patient on hs runs and picked up his blocks nicely. Jacoby's fumbling issues maybe the biggest concern for the Texans right now. Hopefully he can get it together.
This defense is so ridiculously fun to watch. They literally fly around like cannonballs. We've still got that one damn weak link floating out there at CB though...
Fun game to watch. The starters were AWESOME! The offense was damn near perfect (minus FG). Scored on all their possessions IIRC. Just imagine, the offense seemed so smooth.....and we don't even have AJ back yet.
I gotta say, with David Anderson's improvements and that other guy...#13, not sure of his name, I wouldn't have any problem cutting Jacoby. It may seem a little premature, but it just seems to me like it is a rare thing to "cure" fumblitis. I know some guys have had dramatic turnarounds, like Tiki Barber, but for the most part, guys that have trouble holding on to the ball will continue to have trouble. I don't want someone like that on this team returning punts, it makes me wayyyy too nervous. Slaton is awesome. If Green doesn't stay healthy this year, I predict he is starting RB by the end of the season.
Agree with Anderson, he's been amazing this preseason. But I think its way too early to even think about cutting JJ. I think he's just trying a little too hard and is thinking about homerun TDs rather than securing the ball/getting positive yards. Even if JJ loses his PR job, he still has a chance to be a very good WR IMO.
#13 would be Mark Simmons. I don't think they would cut JJ. He has value, I would look at the Texans trying to trade him before cutting him. Remember Jerry Rice had similar problems when he was rookie. Some temamates even called Rice "Butterfingers". I think they should let him get all the remaining punt returns in the preseason to try and correct his problem.
i think its too early to cut jacoby jones having invested a third rounder in him and it being his second season
Haha...#1 play for ESPN's Top 10 lastnight. I will admit that it was a nice move but the Saints better hope he doesn't try it too often because someday a defender isn't gonna go low and take his legs completely out.
Not sure how to post videos from Houstontexans.com but Kubiak in his press conference said that we'll see Slaton with the first team next week! Hopefully he'll have a good showing because I think he can be a big contributor this season.

Just to be clear, I wasn't saying I thought the Texans should cut Jacoby, just that it wouldn't bother me if they did since we seem to have at least a couple other WRs behind him that can more than pick up the slack. And outside of last season's preseason, I have not been all that impressed with his punt return skills. Way too much backward running for my taste. I'm sure they will work with him and, if they can cure his butterfingers, he might turn into the kind of PR/WR we really all hoped he be after last preseason...but it wouldn't really bother me much if he was gone tomorrow.
I think you have to give JJ more time. He might be the 5th WR this season, but he'll get it. I'd hate to cut him just to see him figure it out somewhere else. He's got the ability. He's just got to get his head on straight. I'm happy for David Anderson, though. He's persevered and now he's getting a bigger chance. He's on the the opening day roster.
Staying on the subject of wide receivers...I wonder how Kevin Walter and Andre Davis's roles will play out this season. After last year I was starting to think that maybe Davis might deserve to be the #2 guy and put Walter at the slot receiver spot...but Walter really hasn't done anything to lose his job and is looking pretty darn good this preseason. But so is Davis. It's a good problem to have.
Yes it is and David Anderson having the preseason he is having is making the WR corps that much stronger.
I say keep Johnson, Davis and Walters as your 3... Have Anderson be our "Wes Welker", and Jacoby be our 5th.
