Compared with the Texans, it seems we had Bill Walsh drafting for the Rockets in the last 20 years (I hear Walsh knows as much about basketball as football ).
I guess now we know why Kubiak wouldn't let this guy throw donwnfield too much. All the people, and I include myself in this group that cried for him to be turned loose because he couldn't possibly play any worse just fell deathly silent. That was probably one of the worst games I have ever seen ANY quarterback play. A historic moment. Just when you think the guy couldn't look any worse he smacks you across the head with cold hard reality, puts his finger in your face, and proves you completely wrong. This guy is just pathetic. I was tempted to put a trash bag over my head in my own living room out of shame to be associated with this team. Carr should be back in Cali on a surf board catching waves, not throwing footballs for an NFL team. Where is Heath Shuler when you need him?
A couple of things here: 1. QB Pressure. He was sacked 4 times in the first half. He fumbled once. But the OL got it together in the 2nd half. And even in the first half, he had more time than I thought he would on most plays. Give him more time and he's still making mistakes. I really don't wanna hear that the game yesterday was a product of him being so pressured. 2. Running game. I don't wanna hear that we don't have a running game. That we can't run the ball. Once again, Kubiak inexplicably went away from Ron Dayne after the first drive of the 3rd quarter. Dayne was awesome. The rest of the game was another Carr audition. They were able to run the ball effectively despite having zero passing game downfield. 3. Kubiak. He needs to figure some things out quick. And not just DC. He better damn well have a great draft class this year. This team got its ass kicked yesterday. Yeah, Casserly set this team back BIG TIME. But Kubiak took it on and chose to keep a lot of it around. I'm not saying it's time to start criticizing Kubiak constantly. But no honeymoon next year. Coaches don't last very long if they can't win...even if it's not their fault. At some point they're held responsible. 4. McNair. Please, Bob. Please don't try to blow sunshine up my ass again this week. Your comments last week were silly then, and they look a lot sillier now. Yeah...all the coaches in the world think DC is a Super Bowl QB, Bob. That and a quarter will get you a pack of gum right now. Loaded questions, Bob. Stop being married to your quarterback. If you really love that butterfly, let him go.
David Carr is not the only problem, just the most significant- he is a negative at the most important position on the team.- My ranking of needed improvement- 1. QB- sad but true this team passed on its greatest need by not drafting Young or Leinhart. QB has been the greatest need on this team and still is and they don't have a hope of getting the kind of prospects they could have drafted last season. This looks bleak unless they get a super sleeper in next season's draft or can resurrect someone elses reject. 2. Running Back- Ron Dayne is your starter... enough said. They need a stud runner. To rebuild we will need a solid running game and a stout defense. 3. Safeties- Often overlooked we have below average safeties who do not make big plays either supporting the run or stopping passing attacks. We need a big upgrade at both positions. 4. D-line- If Mario continues to improve we need to be able to get push on the QB from the tackles and stop the run. We need another D-lineman or 2 that can disrupt offenses and play solid. Games are often decided in the trenches. 5. Linebacker- Ryans was a steal and will be great. The outside backers are poor on pass defense and inconsistent against the run. 6. Cornerback- Actually they should be a very high priority, I won't edit this but the cornerbacks have been very inconsistent and do not make plays. 7. O-line- If Charles Spencer comes back and takes up where he was playing before his injury then the team must find a way to beef of the guard positions and get some depth. The rookie right tackle has played well and Spencer showed alot of talent. Need to find 1-2 more good lineman in the draft, build depth and then pray for consistently and continued improvement. 8. Special teams- need a punter and return men. What's his name is injury prone. Overall the receivers and tightends show the most potential given a big upgrade at QB. I know I ranked defense as a primary need over the pathetic offense, but that is because we need to build a dominant defense because it might take a while to get a good QB. Also a good stud running back with a solid defense will be a good foundation for immediate improvement. Rosenfel > Carr- Rosenfel is not the answer, that tells you how badly Carr needs to be replaced. Coaching - Kubiak needs to improve alot, but this was his first dance. Kubiak misjudged Carr badly and Young sadly. His next mistake was how he handled the running game. Morency looked like the best back for the system. The only draft mistake was not taking a running back who could split time with Morency. When this season is over we will take a major setback drafting QB (hopefully) but that is the price to pay for not taking one of the studs last draft. Maybe they will get lucky and the new starter (I am assuming it will be a veteran retread) will play well. It won't take much to improve at the QB position. With a better QB and a super draft class- I believe this team could possible improve to 6-7 wins. That is optimistic but given the right QB they could have won 2-3 more games this season. We are 2 seasons away from contending for the playoffs if everything goes perfect. More likely we are 3 seasons away with gradual improvements. Thanks for passing on Young- a player that could have turned this thing around for us.
The Texans are not improving at all, maybe going backwards. Titans, Jets, 49ers and Saints were all drafting close to the Texans last year, those teams have improved, the Texans have not
That was hilarious. Thank you, man... you made me laugh hard this morning... I ain't being " " about it... It wasn't me who called, although I could have, but your post was funny. I stopped posting here at about 2:00... right after the last interception. I was almost crying, running my fingers through my hair, cursing at the TV... My wife came to the couch, said... "C'mon... let's go... I'll take you to Best Buy... I hope they're not showing the game there..." I went, of course. I bought me some stuff. I cried on the way, but I bought some stuff for myself. Needless to say, I didn't want to talk about this game at all. I was so , but I didn't fight anyone later. rhester, beautiful post. I had been trying to say that to all these dudes all this time. Yes, Carr really did not play well AT ALL these past games, and played well only when it didn't matter. I won't defend Carr anymore, I will just say that he's only played well a couple of games, and have to admit that I had my "rose-colored glasses" on, waiting for a silver lining. MadMax, what did McNair say?
This was a tremendous post! There's nothing left anyone else to say about the Texans. Thanks for laying everything out in such a clear and concise manner. I only have one question: "Could you please transfer this post to crayon so that even Bob "Mr. Sunshine" McNair will be able to understand it?"
There is some light- I think Kubiak did pretty well on last season's draft after round 1 Ryans, Spencer, Winston, Owens were solid picks- all could become good starters and Ryans is a special talent, a playmaker just what this team needs. The only thing I would have done different is try for a good running back- like that little back that plays for Jacksonville, I think he was from UCLA. He would have been sweet. So if we draft the very best player with our first pick- someone who can become a playmaker/special starter. And if we get the another 4-5 quality picks we can really make a fresh start next season. Alot depends on David Carr. - we missed our chance last draft. I am sure there is a very good QB draftable for us rounds 3-6 but I don't know who it is. Kolb might be good if he slips past the first 2 rounds, but I am not sure about him. There are probably other prospects out there. Actually if we keep building the defense, improve the special teams in the later rounds I would look for a stud runner early. If there is one coming out. I know Kubiak liked the late round sleepers at Denver but as far as impact we need someone special running for us with some good depth at the position.
Well, another week, another loss...They didnt' air it in Dallas, so I have no idea about the game except for the highlights on ESPN...that may be a good thing...
