i think a lot of it has to do with the fact that, oh, i don't know, we're playing against David Carr's team?
Well, we are playing the team that Carr now plays for. That might have something to do with why we are talking about Carr so much... When we play the Dolphins, I would imagine the talk will be more about Capers than Carr. And when we play the CBS pre-game crew, I'm sure we'll talk about Casserley more than Carr. Hell, I don't even watch the pre-game show anyway. I didn't even know Casserley had that gig. We're going to get along juuuust fine, MadMax.
I honestly believe that Carr was to blame for ALL of their problems. I really believe that, I thought that after year 2, I told all of my friends this after year 2 and now they FINALLY agree with me, took me 2 years, took them 5.
Well, we play the Colts next week. Wanna bet they'll still be talking about Carr? How about when we play Jacksonville or Tennessee or just about anybody else?
Nope, when they play the Dolphins, I'll wager that you'll hear nary a peep about Capers. But they'll still be ranting about Carr. And Casserly will be on CBS that Sunday with his hairpiece pontificating about the Texans like he actually has something pertinent to say.
Enough with Carr. Let's really talk some Texans & Panthers: I think that the Texans stand a good chance of winning if they can withstand the initial blow from Carolina. I expect Carolina to come out on an emotional high and the Texans cannot let themselves get overwhelmed by this. I see the Panthers as a solid team but not a big play team and if I were Kubiak, I'd be looking to hit AJ or JJ for a big play early on to take the Panthers out of their ram the ball down your throat mentality. That way, it will be the Texans setting the tone and not the Panthers.
No one brought up Carr last week. Or if they did, it wasn't discussed. If Carr's name was brought up, it was in referencing that we have a much better QB now than we had last year. Nothing wrong with admitting that. And if you don't think people were b****ing about Casserly and Capers two years ago when they were fired, you just weren't paying attention.
Oh yes you did hear that. It was the "Schaub looks like a real QB or Thank God We Now Have A QB or Carr Would Have Lost That Game" arguments. Folks couldn't praise Schaub for looking good without bringing up Carr. In fact, you'll hear this kind of stuff every week this season especially against Tennessee when the VY issue gets thrown onto the fire. Exactly - that was two years ago and not today. For the record, I was paying attention because I was one of the ones b****ing. But funny, I just don't hear anything about them much anymore. Rick Smith has to completely turn over this roster, we still have talent problems in key areas like DB, OL but do you hear Casserly's name mentioned at all? We no longer have a coach who prepares his starting QB for an opponent's pass rush by having him throw over ladders in practice but is there any mention of Dum Capers? But you can have post after post about David Carr.
a) I see Capers/Casserly mentioned at least once a week here, but not nearly so much as DC. b) Give it time. Carr's been gone 12 fewer months (roughly) than CC/DC.
Thats because Carr was the last of the old regime to go. The new regime is fixing their mistakes. I'm sure theres still plenty of b****ing about casserly left in the tank. I think we've kind of moved on though. Each mistake fixed by the new regime makes us forget the mistake of the old. If I remember, I will try and watch the cbs pregame just to see him. Its like picking at a scab, some sort of sick enjoyment. The guy really does piss me off. VY will be reminding us of Carr for years though.
Not sure what you're getting at here, Hillboy. Are you proposing some sort of affirmative action when it comes to dogging former players/coaches/GM's? Capers and Casserley left 2 years ago, Carr left less than a year ago.
Our current #8 will make true Houston fans forget about VY by mid-season. Especially after we beat the hapless Titans twice this year.
What in the world are you talking about? Go back and read this thread. The only reason he came up at all was because he gave a quote this week talking about how the Texans wouldn't have won the game at St. Louis that the Panthers did.
I agree with this... (even though I'm a fan of Vince) We could have gotten Vince, but we didn't. We stayed with Carr (two years too long, IMO) and we now see that was a bad move and I couldn't be happier that he is gone. It seems we now have a competent QB in Schaub that can step up when needed and be a leader... the future looks bright for the Houston Texans! Panthers: 17 Texans: 20
I was just wastingtime surfing on ESPN.com (i'm at work) and saw this on thefront page. NFL Briefing Room Travis Johnson (DT, HOU) Johnson was limited in his participation on Thursday, a... http://www.charlotte.com/panthers/story/277738.html For the Panthers, Mike Rucker and Deke Cooper got hurt. Don't know if they are playing or not.
Also, Madden simulation on ESPN has us winning 19-17. lol http://sports.espn.go.com/videogames/simulation/nfl?id=3017421
What I'm talking about is this attitude that you continuously blame one person for the sins of an organization. Sure Carr shoulders some of the blame for what went down in the past but as I keep pointing out, others had far MORE to do with the Texans being bad. This has been a BAD team not only because Carr gave us poor quarterbacking - that's a given. No, it has primarily been bad because the owner, GM & head coach impersonated the Three Stooges in their handling of personnel, drafting and coaching decisions. They were the ones who pissed away an excellent opportunity at building something special here in Houston not Carr. But to read post after post here and elsewhere, it's as if McNair, Capers & Casserley never existed at all. Only David Carr. And I'm sure that in the event the Texans happen to falter again, the same folks will be lining up to blame Matt Schaub and not Kubiak, Smith & McNair. Not a week goes by now without a thread degenerating into something about David Carr (for the record, the same thing has happened over at the Rockets Forum with JVG being pinned with the blame for the Rocket's lack of success). Take this thread for example, it's supposed to be talk about the upcoming game at Carolina. Instead, yet another heated argument breaks out on David Carr. Last time I looked we were slated to play the Carolina Panthers and not David Carr but it certainly doesn't seem that way judging from this thread. Nobody wants to talk about the game just Carr. All I'm saying is it's way past time to let DC go curl up in the fetal position somewhere and suck his thumb and quietly fade away into Jeff George land.
