I thought they had a chance, but not much of one. VERRRy happy to have been wrong. Kudos to you for giving the Texans props on their unlikely GB win. But how are you looking forward to the class of the league playing an average-to-bad team? Just to rub it in? Is there anyone on the continent who will be surprised when the t*** win by two touchdowns this Sunday?
On ESPN First Take they said that the 549 yards the Packers gave up to the Texans are the most Green Bay has given up in 25 years!
I am looking forward to it because I am going to the game, and can see my titans play. Not rubbing anything in, and I don't think titans will win by 2 td's either. I do think theyll win by 10 though.
What a strange game. 4 turnovers and we win? We did everything we could to hand that one to GB but they wouldn't take it. The weird thing is, even with the 4 turnovers I felt like we played pretty well. I'm wondering if Ric still thinks we shouldn't blitz. We've started doing it more and more the last few weeks and it seems to have made a HUGE difference. The Ryans sack (on a blitz....) basically won the game yesterday.
Yeah, Texans have been playing well the past few weeks aside from the turnovers and the Titans really haven't blown out teams unless they were truly awful (Bengals, Chiefs, Browns, Lions).
I'm just glad the Steelers won so that the titans still have something to play for on Sunday. It will make it extra special when we beat them. I only wish the Jets wouldn't have beat them. Can you imagine if the Texans were the first team to beat them this year? That would have really pumped some life into this city. I don't want a repeat of last year where the last few wins of the season come against teams resting their starters for the playoffs.
eh, I didn't give the Texans a great shot yesterday either. GB traditionally plays well at home in the cold (even when they're not going well otherwise). And esp. against a team like Houston that has zero experience playing in that weather. I wasn't sure that Slaton could grind out an entire game if we needed to give him the ball 25-30 times...because that's how the really cold/windy games go a lot of times, depending on field conditions. Luckily we were able to air it out against a GB pass defense that has been pretty damn good this season. I have a lot of confidence in Schaub, but he was coming off the injury, coming back early, playing in cold weather, and playing against a top pass defense. There was nothing that suggested we'd be able to throw it all over the place. That was all pregame. Once the game started and I saw how it went early, I had complete confidence that we could stay in the game and pull it out.
The cold issue is a myth. How many players on Houston's roster are actually from the south or warm weather climates? This isn't college where most of the players are from the area around the school. Owen Daniels and Kevin Walter are from Illinois and went to school in Wisconsin and E. Michigan respectively. Matt Schaub is from Pittsburgh. Slaton is from Levittown, PA and played in the mountains of West Virginia. These are places that tend to get a little chilly in the winter, too. I could go up and down the Texans roster to find more. IMO, the cold weather is not as much of an issue to NFL teams as ESPN and fans make it out to be. 3 degrees is cold if your from Alaska or from Texas.
wait just a second, sir - of ALL the many things i've said this year, you choose THIS ONE to bring back up? that's my reward for being one of the few, if not only, fans in this forum to not fall into the trap of easy, lazy knee-jerkism? jeesh... (blitzing, btw, can obviously be effective; i don't think i've ever stated otherwise. i merely defended the coaches' decision that blitzing with this paticular team probably wasn't a good idea, and that teams like pittsburgh, baltimore, et al, are rare exceptions and not a fair standard for the league's other 95%.)
Whoa, whoa, whoa...I wasn't trying to call you out or anything. I actually wanted to know what you thought about us blitzing more in the last few games. If that's the reason the D is looking a little better and if you think our CB's might be improving even if just going from really bad to just bad. Upon reading my post, it kind of sounds like I was calling you out. Sorry. I seriously wasn't. I just remember you responding to someone asking why we don't blitz more and you saying it wasn't a gamble we should take that often. Maybe the person you replied to was advocating blitzing 20 times a game, in which case I would obviously agree with you. I don't remember, I tried to find the actual post but no luck. Anyway, I do think we've been blitzing more and that has a lot to do with the D's play the last few games. It obviously had an effect on the outcome yesterday.
No, I usually don't require the smiley things but I may have had too many cough drops today to get the sarcasm. They make me drowsy and I'm just so tired right now. I probably need to EW"L L L L L L L LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
What a game!!! Great confidence building win for our local boys. In my opinion, got to be up there as one of the greatest wins in franchise history. Others that come to mind: W 19-10 vs. Dallas, September 8, 2002 W 24-6 at Pittsburgh, December 8, 2002 W 21-20 at Miami, September 7, 2003 W 24-20 vs. Jacksonville, September 28, 2003 W 27-24 vs. Indy, December 24, 2006 W 34-21 at Charlotte, September 16, 2007 I'd probably put it #3 behind the Dallas game and (maybe) the first win over Indy.
