I would take Ridley for what the Jags gave up for him in a heartbeat.

I wouldn't mind signing Jameis to a 2 year deal as a bridge QB and draft a QB in 2024.

Our problem is Jameis would take the Texans square to the middle of the pack and any QB worth bridging to in 2024 would likely be out of reach without significant compensation (if at all).

We are in the worst possible scenario in this draft - needing a QB in a QB weak draft and no major franchise guys as free agents. Our QB pick must hit if we do that or we are better off riding Mills to the tank to position for Williams/Maye.

Post Combine / Pre-Free Agency Thoughts

    Trades / Cuts
Trade WR Brandin Cooks + 5-136 to NEP for 3-76
Trade LB Christian Kirksey to BUF for conditional 2024 6th (becomes 5th if Kirksey plays 900+ snaps)
    Cut DE Mario Addison
    Cut LB Jaybin Reeves Maybin
    Cut S Eric Murray
    Cut C Justin Britt done
Extend LT Laremy Tunsil (4 years, 28M+36M+45M+57M, $60M Gtd) can walk in Year 3 if need be, but saves $7M this year
Extend RT Tytus Howard (5 years, $96M, $11M+$14M+$18M+$23M+$30M) save $4M this year
Trade conditional 2024 6th to NYJ for WR Denzel Mims (becomes 4th if Mims has 1,000 receiving yards, 5th if Mims has 700 receiving yards)
Restructure DL Maliek Collins creates about $4M in space

2 out via trade, 1 in via trade

    About $79M in cap space

    Free Agents
    QB Jimmy Garoppolo (SF) – 2 years, $40M (18, 22) – 1st year guaranteed 18
    re-sign TE OJ Howard – 1 year, $5M fully gtd 5
    C Garrett Bradbury (MN) - 4 years, $22M, $12M gtd 4
    C/G Jake Brendell (SF) - 3 years, $9M, $4.5M gtd 3
    re-sign Edge Ogbonnia Okoronkwo – 3 years, $21M, $12M gtd 6
    LB Tremaine Edmunds (BUF) - 4 years, $44M, $22M gtd 9
    LB / Edge / Rush SAM Samson Ebukam (SF) – 4 years, $32M, $16M gtd 7
    CB Jamal Dean (TB) – 4 years, $40M, $16M gtd 8
    re-sign CB Tavierre Thomas (2 years, $8M) 3.5
    re-sign SAF Jon Owens, (2 years, $4M) 2
    re-sign SAF MJ Stewart (2 years, $4M) 2
    SAF Tarvarius Moore (SF) – 3 years, $9M 3

    7 outside FAs + 5 re-signs

    Draft
1-2 Edge Will Anderson Jr. (UA)
    Trade 1-12, 3-76, + 2024 3rd to DET for 1-6
    1-6 QB Anthony Richardson (UF)
    Trade 2024 1st + 3-73 for 1-20 (SEA)
    1-20 RB Bijan Robinson (TX)
    2-33 TE Darnell Washington (UGA)
    3-65 5Tech Adetomiwa Adebawore (NWn)
    4-103 WR Johnathan Mingo (MS)
    6-186 LB Yasir Abdullah (L’ville)
6-201 SAF Jason Taylor II (OK St) (PS)
    6-205 IOL Jon Gaines (UCLA)

    Roster
QB Garoppolo // Richardson // Mills
Garoppolo serves as mentor for Richardson (a la Alex Smith to Mahomes)

RB Pierce // Robinson // Ogunbowale (KR)
    FB Hairston
The rushing attack is lethal with Robinson able to play WR role when needed

    X-WR Collins
    Z-WR Mims // Mingo (PR/KR)
Slot WR Metchie // Rogers (PR/KR)
Mims is able to get YAC and break tackles while Mingo grows into his role. Collins wins 50-50s and blocks on the edge.

    Y-TE Howard // Jordan
    F-TE Washington // Quitiriano
Howard does his Kittles impersonation to get a new deal. Washington blocks and is the red zone threat.

    LT Tunsil // Heck
    LG Green // Brendell
    C Bradbury
    RG Cann // Gaines
    RT Howard // Deculus
Most of the OL can block on the move to open up the RPO and wide zone attack.

    LDE Hughes // Anderson II
    RDE Okoronkwo // Grennard
The wide 9 pass rushers keep coming in waves - putting pressure on opposing QBs and leading to TOs.

    LDT Collins // Adebawore
RDT Lopez // Booker // Hinish
IDL can attack - but probably not the best at clogging running lanes.

    SLB Ebukam // Abdullah
    MLB Edmunds // Cashman
    WLB Harris // Wallow
Linebackers are much better in coverage. Not the strongest run stopping group, but LBs can get there in a hurry as long as DL slows them just a tad.

    LCB Stingley // Nelson
    RCB Dean // Arnold
    NCB King // Thomas
    SAF Pitre // Stewart
    SAF Moore // Owens
Secondary has some sticky DBs who can stay with their receivers while DL pressures. This group can come up with a lot of TO's.

    K Fairbairn // P Johnston // LS Weeks
Throw in Arnold, Thomas, Stewart, Owens, Cashman, Wallow, & Abdullah and the ST unit stays strong.

    Playoffs in 23-24. Super Bowl 24 – 25. I said what I said.
Most players under contract for the next 2 years.

My opinion matters the same amount as yours.

I thought we were just talking ball. I didn't realize you take things so seriously. There does need to be a vet QB on the roster, I dont want any rookie QB starting right away. Feel free to disagree with me. Oh, I guess they could go with Mills. LOL

You think much more of Winston than I do.

Next years QB class is much better than this years class. IMHO

Are you saying hell no because he sucks ( which would be ideal except for the money involved) or because he'd mess up the rebuilding plan ? .. I agree with @Jayded in the perspective that he might **** around and have us sitting at 6 wins and no shot at one of the stud QBs .. But I'd rather draft Bryce anyway and start from day 1

Would you be willing to give the Ravens a Godfather package for Lamar Jackson vs throwing the dice one more year with a chance at the top 2 guys next draft?

I would not give ANY package for Lamar. The timing is not right. I think he is going to try to be a pocket style QB to preserve his career, and that is not what his game is about. Plus, I think he is at his apex, and this team does not need that at this point. If we bring in an established QB it gets us maybe 7 wins. Putting us squarely in the middle of next years draft. Not an ideal situation. As sad as it is to say, we need to be a bottom dweller for 1 more year.

My concern about being a bottom dweller though is three years of multiple draftees each year, we are going to get killed when all of these picks reach the end of the rookie contracts in 3,4, and 5 years from now. If we have multiple break out players we have to attempt to re sign its gonna kill the cap.

    I wouldn't and it isn't because I don't like Jackson.

I DO like Jackson, but I don't think he is quite in the class of Mahomes, Herbert or Burrows.

Part of the appeal of drafting a QB is that it gives you multiple years to pay the guy at a low number.

Getting Jackson would cost the Texans a lot of assets & cap space.

This is what I have been saying... I honestly think this was the plan all along.
Try to compete this year in the AFC South and plan for the future as well... just like Niners did with Jimmy G & Lance

Edit: gonna be who gives Jimmy G the most $$$ & love. NY media will eat him up. But Vegas is very on-brand, but do they have the $$$
