Whoa! I knew we had a MNF against Tenesse but didnt know we had one against Arizona week 5 too! Thats awesome
If they tag him again this is just a stupid franchise. They will have paid 21mil over 2 years for a CB who has never played a pro-bowl. Pissing off all your good players doesn't seem like a great idea.
Monday night football doesnt even mean that much anymore. It has lost its glory. You have to have cable or something to watch it. Sunday Night Football is what you want.
What if he is a probowler next year? Franchising him wouldnt be stupid because then you are not only saving a spot for him on the roster, but you also have the option of trading him and getting something in return.
Trades in the NFL are harder to make. If you can't trade him you have to pay him 11 mil. This is one of the worst expansion franchises in the history of the professional leagues. They need to be worried about winning for next year. You can get lucky and even get to the SB. 8-8 should not be acceptable.
I'm having a hard time following your point. So if the scenario rezdawg suggested happens and Dunta returns to Probowl form. He is again unreasonable with his contract demands and they can't come to an agreement. You would rather let one of your best defensive players walk for NOTHING than the team go through the difficulty of working a trade with someone? Even if all you get for the guy is a 2nd or 3rd round pick, isn't that a LOT better than getting nothing? And as for the players getting pissed, I'm not too worried that there's going to be some player mutiny based on Dunta not liking being franchised for a 2nd year.
Well the thing was..i thought we had only the MNF game against the Titans, then I watched that ESPN training camp piece on the Texans and they had us listed as MNF game against the Cardinals, I thought they got it wrong and i guess they did
Well, if he is a probowl player, Im sure there will be some major demand for him. If you cant find a trade partner, youre essentially just paying a probowl player his worth. There is no reason why the Texans shouldnt franchise Dunta if he plays at a probowl level and we cant come to a long term deal with him.
All am saying is this team needs to win this season. I think giving Duanta a no franchise clause doesn't seem unreasonable.
Dunta will be back week 1 regardless of what the Texans do. I trust in the reports that say Dunta is working out hard and is in great shape. I don't believe that it will take him longer than a week or two to get back into top form. So you are weighing the possibility of losing one of your better defensive players for NOTHING versus the chance that you will get a slightly subpar Dunta for a couple games to start the season. The choice is obvious to me. And that's not even considering the bad precendent the team would be setting by giving up their willingness to franchise him. I don't want ANY of the Texans players to see what Dunta is doing and think that it gains him any advantage whatsoever. If they give in and agree to not franchise, more and more players will start holding out on preseason/training camp because they don't like being franchised. I think it could potentially really damage the Texans to give up leverage on Dunta for no reason other than to get him in camp right now.
not saying Dunta is the end all be all on our defense, but he won't be in game shape by the time we play the Jets. It's gonna suck if it costs us a couple of games. really makes it hard to like him after that.
ChronicleTexans WR Andre Johnson gives Texans brief scare during Monday's practice: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/6567258.html Gulp...its all good now however if a freaking cart ruins the season id be mad as hell!!! Everyone held their breath after the first passing play of practice when Andre Johnson ran into a large cart on the sidelines. Johnson was running full speed, barely inbounds when he caught the pass, and his momentum carried him hard into the cart parked about 10 yards from the sideline. The cart hoists a platform that supports the camera man that films the practice. Johnson jumped into the machine and appeared completely unharmed. -JORDAN GODWIN
