Starting to not like Dunta. The guy came back off of a major injury and played..okay. The guy needs a year to prove himself. He may have shot himself in the foot if he doesn't play well now. He should have taken whatever the Texans were offering. In the end, they may not want him anyway and this might be the best thing the Texans ever did. No need to give a huge signing bonus to a beat up, washed up cornerback anway.
He might, but that would be a huge mistake on his part. He has 2 choices... 1. Come into camp with the right attitude. Play well. Get paid. 2. Sit out of camp. Show up late to the season. Play like crap. Lose starting position to younger players who want it more. Get squat in free agency. Pretty simple to me.
I'd be shocked if he did that. All the contract greediness aside, Dunta is a gamer...we all know that. He still wants to win, and it's not going to help his cause to miss games. We've passed the point that we can offer him a contract anyway, so it would truly serve no purpose. I'm glad the Texans have held their ground. They made a more than reasonable offer by all accounts, and weren't going to pay top dollar for a guy that they're not sure is going to return to elite status. No reason to end up with a bad contract if he's just a slightly above average corner for the rest of his career.
i agree. there hasn't been much in his character that would indicate something like that. this off-season was a big one for him and he worked hard to come back last season and prove he was the same player. he didn't quite make it, but you could see that he was still working on it. plus, i just got a dunte jersey on the cheap at academy. he better still ball for the texans.
I hope he signs his Franchise tender soon. He's the last guy in the NFL to not sign his F-tag contract.
On a side note of self indulgence, I just renewed my NFL sunday ticket!...woo hoo...might be overpriced, but worth it.
Just got mine renewed too. Will be watching the Texans from Dallas again this year. Hoping that we finish with a better record than the Cowboys. That was actually a topic on one of the stations here last night
Out of curiosity (and not to derail the thread, hopefully), but is the general consensus in Dallas that the team will be better or worse off without TO?
Mixed reaction - some think this will help out Romo and OC (Jason Garrett) in terms of playcalling and spreading the ball around to be a more balanced attack. Critics are saying now teams can double the TE (Witten) and take away the seam from him. Also, reaction is mixed in terms of the rest of the WR corps - some aren't sure that Roy is the real deal and the rest of the WRs are too inexperienced to be counted on. Others feel the exact opposite. Not a Cowboy fan by any stretch, but it's kind of hard not to follow/observer them while living up here. I don't think I've ever heard their fans be so torn on how the team is going to do. I think the one thing that's for certain is that it looks like some of the other teams in the division, particularly Philly, have really upgraded their teams and the Cowboys, unless the addition by subtraction thing comes to fruition, seem to have taken a step back.
I'm going CRAZY! I can't wait till football! I hate summer....too hot. Bring on the cooler weather, lower electricity bills (allow me to leave my windows open!) and FOOTBALL!
well, kind of late, but I saw Super Mario at the signature LA Fitness at the medical center a couple of weeks ago ...no pics, but he was working out hard and left with some girl (not as attractive)...
I say let him walk after this season. He plays the game the right way and is a helluva hitter, but he should not be paid like a top 5 cover corner...cause he isn't one
I say franchise him again and trade him. That players get so bent out of shape about the franchise tag is hilarious to me since it was their players union that agreed to a CBA that allowed this thing. Let him prove his worth to the team again, and if he is STILL being unreasonable about his contract demands after this season, franchise him again and trade him. There's no reason we should get NO compensation from an upper tier (arguable I suppose) CB. It's hard enough to find decent cornerbacks in this league, but to find a good one and let him go for nothing because he doesn't appreciate being franchised is ridiculous.
Well that wouldn't entirely be the case, if a team loses a quality Free Agent they would at least be awarded a Compensatory pick in the next Draft.
