I disagree. The early picks were all at need areas up to Casey. The only need areas not addressed were safety and RB. I think the Texans do BPA at need positions early, but don't focus on just one position.

    The Texans needed a SAM.
The Texans needed a backup defensive end who could play in passing situations. They had already mentioned they would like to move A Smith inside on passing downs.
The Texans needed depth on the offensive line and were very fortunate last year.
    Their blocking TE retired.

i think they went went the BPA that fit their needs.

off the top of my head, i believe the texans play 6 teams this year that employ some form of a 3-4 scheme. plus, the steelers, chargers and ravens - all playoff teams a year ago - run it full-time. so an extra TE that can block is going to be a vital part of their efforts to win the AFC.

as for the DL, i think their plan is to move smith inside to try and generate pressure up the middle. so an end that can get after the passer gives them three legitimate front 4 pass rushers, a nice foundation in their efforts to improve the pass rush. so that was the idea behind the barwin pick.

As expected, Broncos just released Selvin Young today.

I bet he is scooped up by Kubiak any day.

Young still hasn't been cleared to play because of the neck injury. He has received two medical opinions — one doctor recommended another six months rest which would sideline him until September; another recommended surgery which could bring him back by June but would also carry higher risk of long-term injury.

Young has opted against surgery. He wound up rushing for 1,032 yards on 5.1 yards per carry in his two seasons with the Broncos and had another 38 receptions for 6.5-yard average.

No thanks, don't need another injured running back. I really like the two undrafted guys they signed.

I agree. Arian Foster looks extremely promising to be a bruising back complimenting Slaton's speed.

I agree. Hopefully, he will turn up to be someone that acclimates well into the system.

If you watch his highlights in college, he doesn't really run anybody over...

His highlights from college make him look like more of a one-cut and gone kind of guy. Not a guy that is going to run into you and bull you over...

    Lions sign Ephraim Salaam

Just thought this was interesting. I was sure he was going to retire after we didn't bring him back.

    OTA highlights: Day 5
So far during OTA practices, running back Chris Brown has looked like a solid complement to Steve Slaton. Coach Gary Kubiak knows that the key for Brown is remaining healthy.

NFL Live had a nice little piece on Mario last night. They basically revisited the 2006 draft and said “I guess the Texans knew what they were doing after all.” They talked about Bush not being a very good football player, Vince’s off the field troubles, Cutler being the biggest baby in the history of the NFL, and Leinart being a career backup. They then showed a graphic similar to this one:

    Mario Williams 30.5 sacks
Reggie Bush 12 career rushing touchdowns
    Vince Young Backup QB
    Jay Cutler Traded to Bears
    Matt Leinart Backup QB

I think we can officially close the book on the 2006 draft . Scoreboard Texans.

The best is at the 1:56 mark when he utterly embarrasses "Oilers" b****-boy, Mikey Griffin.

You can take that a little further...

1st. Mario Williams 30.5 sacks, Pro Bowl Starter 2009
2nd. Demeco Ryans Pro Bowl Starter 2008
3rd. Eric Winston - Starting OL
4th. Owen Daniels - Pro Bowl TE
Even the 7th round pick is a contributing player...David Anderson

That was quite a draft no matter how you look at it.
