I'll agree with you that he's not cheap and made a mistake on some hires. But as far as being not involved, I'm having my doubts on that
I'm not a cap expert either, but from what little I understand about it (which is basically nothing), aren't we going to have a LOT more money to spend next year?
Well, I am happy for you that you feel that way ima. As for myself, I prefer to remain skeptical about them until they show me something on the field. I agree with you that they are trying to get better. I just don't see these moves as being enough to make them little more than a decent football team. However, after the past 5 years, I can live with decent provided that it is accompanied by steady improvement. However, I have to disagree with your last point because the fact that it's going to take more than 2 years to get to being a SB contender doesn't mean that it will happen also. But we are years away for this being an issue for discussion. Right now I want to see if Kubiak & Smith can pull a rabbit er, QB out of the hat.
decent is certainly a relative term, but a 6-win team that lost twice on the game's final play isn't in the neighborhood of decent? and they improved in every single statistical measure used to evaluate a football team last year over the prior year, save for running the football. it's not yet steady, but that certainly represents improvement, no?
No. A decent team wins those games. It's improvement in the aggregate sense only if it's compared to the disasterous 2-14 year before last. Like I said. I can live with decent. I just can't tolerate inept.
I totally agree with you there. But that was also a different era. But yeah, the Oilers, despite their playoff failures, gave me far more joy and were more interesting to watch than the Texans. Well, I am far from an expert on the Texans. You could be right. I still don't really think he has made any major calls on personnel, etc... but he did hire AND keep CC, so that ultimately falls on him I just know that I can't even watch a Texans game in it's entirety. The offense is terrible, the defense gives up big plays and it's just so boring. Which sucks, considering I have to shell out a couple hundred bucks to do it
That's what I've heard as well. Next year the the likes of Walker, Wade, Smith, Payne etc come off the books.
fair enough. decent might be a stretch for me, as well, but i think they're closer to decent than, say, 2-14. what else should we use to measure their progress? everyone wants to act like 2005 was an anomaly, and in some ways, it ways. at the same time, they made some of their worst personnel moves prior to that year (waiving glenn and sharper, trading for buchannon, signing victor riley) and they saw the net effect of bad signings and even worse drafting start to take root.
Ok, someone tell me, how does the Browns signing Jamal Lewis change the draft, or does it stay the same? Would the Texans draft AP if he was there at 8?
Texans? Hell yes. But the Browns still might, too.. Jamal is older and has been slowing down some.. although he CLAIMS he's only good if he gets 25-30 carries a game (otherwise he can't wear down opponents). But I don't think the Browns will rely on him. But I guess if they go with Lewis and Droughns that's pretty formidable
I can't see the Browns taking AP now. Still don't think he'll be there at 8, but it at least gives us a glimmer of hope. "So you're saying there's a chance........."
OKAY...SO... ARE WE EVER GOING TO TRADE CARR OR ARE WE GOING TO WAIT UNTIL EVERY OTHER AVAILABLE QB IS TRADED OR SIGNS WITH A NEW TEAM? I mean, if we do intend to trade him, wouldn't it have made sense to have traded him when teams needed QB's? Wouldn't his value have been higher?
I'm getting concerned as well. Ramsey to the broncos. seems as though right after they visit us they sign immediately with another team (or am I just imagining that, I forget what other player did that) http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2791258
My thinking too, but maybe it's because teams are trying to low ball us. Should be an interesting training camp if Carr comes back, though. For the first time in his career, he will actually have to COMPETE for the starting job (with Sage). I'll tell you one thing.....if he DOES come back, this bbs will be OUT OF CONTROL.
I kind of have that feeling as well. But it probably is OK, I'd rather them go through this FA and draft and let value fall to them vs. get desperate and make stupid moves.
The Texans are seeing what it out there and are making moves accordingly. It would be stupid to trade Carr for nothing or a downgrade just to appease the witch hunter fans.
what's wrong with that? I would rather it come down to the wire with the Texans actually gathering information to make an informed decision, rather then making a gut reaction. If the only offer (if there even is one) is below what they feel is value, and you can't find a decent backup qb, I'm in favor of keeping him and letting him fight it out with Sage.
