The bears are not dumping grossman for david carr. Rex aint great but carr would not be an improvement
So did Jason White and Ken Dorsey. Solid- I once thought that the Bears would be interested in Carr, but then I realized that if one of the worst teams in the league doesn't want him, why would the team playing in the Superbowl want him?
What about last season when either dayne or lundy was having good days. The main reason why they couldn't run the ball early in the season was because the defense wasn't playing well so they offense was in pass mode early. It doesn't matter who you have at rb, if the defense cant get off the feield, he's sitting on the sideline holding his helmet. Its hard to find a team with a good defense that cant run the ball good. Why? Because when you make a team go 3 and out or 5 give up one first down, then you change field position and give your offense more chance which becomes a game of trenches. I like petereson too, but if the defense is giving up long drives and the team is is pass mode early, then what.
The texans cannot go into next season with ron dayne and samkon gado at rb. Those guys couldnt even be 2nd stringers on any other team in football. They need a good rb who can compensate for the mediocre o-line. A QB could help as well, but the rbs in this draft have more potential
If you think a rb can compensate for a mediocre line, his name better be barry sanders or walter payton.
The Texans have generally had decent run blocking in their history, hence Domanick Davis having 3 good years. However, the pass blocking has always been atrocious. The RBs on the roster this year just weren't that good, which is why if they get a quality RB like Peterson, the offense would probably significantly improve, at least in the running game
Come on now. This is a guy that was ringing up sub-50 QB rating games this year (5) as if they were triggering bonuses in his contract. He cost the Bears the Superbowl because he (a) can't take a snap, (b) passes to guys that he can't even see because of the defender, (c) looked like he was doing a "Bad Eli" impression half the time. The Bears need a caretaker. Carr can do that. Grossman can't. He is very literally the worst starting QB I can recall watching in my entire life. He's a sloppy mess. We're all over Carr because he squanders a fantastic receiving tandem and is the limiting member of our offense. But while he didn't do anything to win games for us, he also wasn't killing us (12 INTs to Rex's 20). http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/don_banks/02/04/look.ahead.bears.colts/1.html Trade Carr to the Bears for a low 3rd round pick - they can afford him! Yeah I was cracking up watching that douch try to quarterback that team yesterday. Here is a hint, if the guy chokes at a place like Florida with all that talent he most likley will blow in the NFL.
While I agree about his performance yesterday, he finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting (and should've won it) at Florida. He was a very good college quarterback.
If they wanted a caretaker, they could have simply started Brian Griese. They wanted a better offense. Just like the Bucs before them and the Ravens before them. Teams don't like relying on having to play perfect defense because it's difficult to maintain your success over time. In addition to having a whole lot of terrible games, Grossman had a whole lot of great games - I believe he and Peyton Manning tied for first in terms of # of 100+ QB rating games. 7 or 8 weeks into the season, Grossman was an MVP candidate. So while he has consistency problems, he's shown a lot of promise that he can be that improvement - that's why he keeps starting even when he struggles. Why on Earth would they want Carr? They'd have to give up a pick, pay him a ridiculous $8MM, and get a mediocre player at best. Carr has 80 games under his belt. Due to injuries, Grossman has 24. In terms of experience, he's at the equivalent point of Carr midway through his 2nd year. He's not supposed to be a finished product and presumably they expect he has plenty of upside. He fits where they want to go far better than Carr does.
Kinda like that guy that choked at a place like Tennessee with all that talent too. He'll never win a Superbowl.
Look at the S, LB and D-line names because I feel they will draft their own RB's and O-lineman (to fit their system)
I would love to see the Texans go after any of the following: Adalius Thomas Nate Clements Daniel Graham Nick Harper Justin Smith Leonard Davis Charles Grant Dominick Rhodes Jeff Garcia Damon Huard And many others in no particular order.
Also, my absolute football dream would be to see the Texans sign Dwight Freeney and Nate Clements and put them on our up-and-coming defense. Not that we would ever have enough money, and discounting the fact that the Colts will/should bend over backwards to sign Freeney, I would love that. Could you imagine Mario and Freeney paired together. There aren't enough offensive lineman on a team to stop that.
