Heh. If DC were an ugly mug, do you think the Texans would have cut him sooner? (sorry, that's probably way too politically incorrect)
and not that Adrian Peterson fellow. RB is a position that a player is going to be punished in. If the RB is successful, he will take 25+ hits a game. AP has had injuries in college, so what do you think it is going to be like when he plays in the NFL agianst bigger, faster competition. BTW the next Eric Dickerson will be a top three pick, no question.
UCLA 17 (the defense that shut down USC) - ND - 13 1:00 to go... <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/z27D8K4F-JM"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/z27D8K4F-JM" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
To be fair, being injured and missing games are two different things. Peterson had 3 other games in 2005 where he had 10 carries or less. In total, he had 339 carries his freshman year, 220 his sophomore year, and 188 in his junior year. That said, his big injury this year was flukish - I wouldn't put too much stock in it. He was hampered by his ankle for much of last year though.
While I don't think AP should be the pick, in all fairness his injuries weren't due to anything but freak accidents. In 2005, the kid still managed 1,000+ yards with a bad ankle. He probably would have been better had he chosen to not keep playing on it. Last season, he breaks his collarbone diving into the endzone. Yes, it was stupid and unnecessry, but not a sign of things to come. I think he will be a very good pro and should be able to handle 25-30 carries per game. I would just rather that the Texans spend the pick on a more glaring need.

he did have a lot of lingering ankle injuries but still played through them (it seemed like every year except one, he was a little gimpy for some reason) - thats where the concern comes from and rightfully so, I think He is a badass though, I wouldn't be upset if he was a Texan. My main concern is that we suck so bad, will he just get pounded and by the time we are good he will already have been beat up (similar to Earl) I wish we could trade the pick in a good deal for us.
I've heard this many times (and heard Mattj compare it to Bush's somersault into the end zone). He didn't dive to showboat or anything, he dove because there was a guy at the goal line.
Adrian "Freak Accident Magnet" Peterson? Amobi Okoye may have professionally peaked with his Senior Bowl appearance. AP may be the next Dickerson. Who knows? I do know that if the Texans draft AP and he proceeds to be injured in the Pros as mush as he was in college, the fans will rip Kubiak a new one for ignoring AP's plagued past. On the other side of the coin, if the texans pass on AP and he winds up in the HoF, Kubiak gets a new one then two (but it may be mitigated if the player he choses instead pans out). First round picks are precious commodities that teams try to use on "can't miss" prospects. AP injuries make him a gamble more than "can't miss".
my recollection was that he was hit at, or maybe even after he crossed the goal line. it wasn't celebratory at all, if my memory isn't failing me. you tube anyone? again, it's the time of year to blow holes through every prospect. yes, injury is a concern; then again, he has fewer miles on the tires than most 4-year, or even 3-year starters. bottom line, adrian peterson was a men among boys as a freshman. and he was every bit as good this year. if he's there at #8, i think he's very hard to pass on. unless a better prospect drops.
from Kipper's draft if they are available ... 2. Detroit Lions: Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin 3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: *Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech 5. Arizona Cardinals: *Jamaal Anderson, DE, Arkansas 6. Washington Redskins: *Alan Branch, DT, Michigan 7. Minnesota Vikings: Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson 10. Atlanta Falcons: LaRon Landry, S, LSU 11. San Francisco 49ers: *Reggie Nelson, DB, Florida 12. Buffalo Bills: Leon Hall, CB, Michigan 13. St. Louis Rams: *Charles Johnson, DE, Georgia 14. Carolina Panthers: Levi Brown, OT, Penn St. 15. Pittsburgh Steelers: *Jarvis Moss, DE, Florida 18. Cincinnati Bengals: Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville 19. Tennessee Titans: *Dwayne Jarrett, WR, USC Landry will likely be there at 8. Okoye will be there at 8, but he may be a bit of a project.
I didn't mean to insinuate that it was showboating. I say it was stupid and unnecessary because it was a td at on the last play of the game to put OU up 34-9. The game was won. He could have simply taken the hit.
Gotcha. I don't think in that split second, AP was thinking, hey, it's 34-9, maybe I should just let him tackle me just in case I break my collarbone in the process.
I could be ecstatic with any one of those players except Calvin Johnson and Dwayne Jarrett. It's got nothing to do with talent. If there is one thing the Texans don't need to do with the first round pick, it would be to draft a WR. Every one of the other players listed fill a need.
I think the Texans needs are so great that getting an All Star S or DT trumps the All Star RB. The Texans desparately need to control the line of scrimage, followed by upgrading their defensive secondary. That should get them to 500. Afterwards they can chase skill position players in the draft.
