I like that Kubiak, in referencing Jonathon Joseph's situation with his groin injury, makes mention that he needs to "carry his load".

Maybe I'm just out of the loop (or maybe I'm just stupid), but I was under the impression that damaged nerves were essentially dead nerves and could not regenerate. Could someone please explain it to me?
Cush sighting at IW marks with a a girl ring shopping. I did see him at the texans facility his rookie year...he is definitely a bit leaner. Still rock solid though (no pun intended)
Most peripheral (long) nerves can regenerate if they're not too badly injured. They're the ones that innervate muscles. Central Nervous System nerves do not regenerate. It takes an incredibly long time for peripheral nerves to regrow (1-2mm per day) . Then you have to add in time for physical therapy to get back to normal, then training and conditioning to get to NFL level. Peyton may not be up to speed for a while.
Depends on the severity. With bulging discs, the nerves are being pinched/compressed. Think of it like a tourniquet - depending on how "tight" it is and how long it's there, you'll have X amount of damage/cell death. A straight up dead nerve can't grow back. But a nerve with some dead neurons can compensate. A damaged neuron can also heal/compensate. When you work out a muscle, you actually "build up" the neural pathways before you build up muscle. Nerves (and blood vessels) aren't fixed and can grow/change with use/disuse.

I'm still saying what I said,.. don't be surprised if Foster achieves 1900 yards rushing. Kubiak seems to be saying from the above that he is likely to give him the ball 25 times a game if need be to get winning results...I watched the recent preseason game a few times along with pics to make certain, and if you look closely and compare his build to last year,... he looks better. His ability to make tacklers miss, punch-in ability and vision is already top shelf. He is like LaDanian in his prime, but larger with more power.. He won't have the string of eye popping years, but we should be set at RB for the next 5 years easy.
btw, gotta love all the sacks this preseason when you consider we will have more packages and looks to enhance that when the season starts!
They're tied for the lead with 11 in the preseason. It's not just sacks but yards lost. The Texans are far and above the preseason leader with 109 yards lost on those 11 sacks. The next closest team has 59 yards lost. Other encouraging news is that the defense has five forced fumbles, which leads the preseason. The three fumble recoveries are tied for the lead. It's only two games into the preseason, so we don't want to get caught up in the stats too much. However, it's good to have this early success as it can only give confidence to the defense. I'm glad the defense hasn't shown any exotic packages in the preseason. They want to save them for week 1. Peyton Manning doesn't have any film on the new-look defense, so the defense has an opportunity to surprise him with the different looks and blitzes. I'm sure Manning will look at old tape of Wade's Cowboys and Chargers days, but it'll be different personnel than the Texans and thus he can't get a clear idea of the defense.
The defense so far has finally lived up to that popular expression "bend don't break", which has been thrown around by some of our coordinators within the last few years without ever figuring out that part about "not breaking". We may still get gauged and give up seemingly long drives but we have the personnel and apparently the scheme to create that big turnover or drive changing sack when needed
I think Manning will be well prepared - the formula for attacking this defense is there: get the ball out quick, attack the open space (triangle btwn CB-ILB-S) left by the WOLBs, use HB screens and pitches, and exploit any 1-on-1 mismatches in the secondary with timing routes. Manning's the guy I'm most afraid of with this scheme. Teams that are polished machines in 2-minute situations can really cut up the weak spots we'll have, and no one is better at picking up weak spots than he is. I think the keys are keeping him off the field with our offense (run run run) and hoping that he's not 100%. Playoffs are all about winning your division. NO LETDOWN GAMES.
The little 'dink & dunk' plays probably will be successful, however I like to think that they increase the defense's chances of making a BIG play. As long as the D is there to make a tackle after receptions and not give up huge YAC. If the D makes tackles... All it will take is one missed blocking assignment, rushed/tipped pass, or offensive mistake to create a 3rd and long or turnover. I feel that this is the premise of the whole 'bend but don't break' philosophy.
^ as long as they have Clark, they can exploit any defense. You have to run the ball and not get cute, like coming out passing 80% of the time when your Left Tackle has missed four games and is lining up against the tazmanian devil.
