That's very encouraging, but like I said:

    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/p8FBjXaoDTw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I seem to remember Richard Smith talking about how his 4-3 defense was going to be better at stopping the run than Fangio's 3-4. Then 3 years later Frank Bush saying his defense would be more aggressive and blitz more than Smith's. I'm not falling for it again. It's all just rhetoric until we actually see the change on the field.

My fear is that we will "improve" from 6-10 to 8-8 next year and Bob will sell that to the fanbase as being on the right track. Rinse, lather, repeat...

Do you understand the concept of a contract, and what that means?? The players you want are UNDER CONTRACT. You remind me of the guy who calls into 610 or 790, and complains about how the Rockets don't go after guys like Dwight Howard or Kevin Durant. The rest of the league is not here at your disposal.

Lol, I didn't realize checking facts makes my azz corny (I have no idea what that means, but I guess I'm flattered....). So basically, other than the fact that your initial statement was (surprise, surprise) yet AGAIN ridiculous (you're really on a roll here) about the Texans getting not one, but TWO players who are already under contract, I am right??? Thanks for being so gracious as to concede the point, Frankie J_avalon.

I don't get Joseph's comments on Kareem. Blank slate? What happened to the Nick Saban grooming system?

FS Eugene Wilson is 1 of 5 players being waived by Texans today. He is the only starter.

    McClain_on_NFL
Others being waived are WR Andre Davis, LB Issuah Greenhouse, LB Darnell Bing and DT Demario Pressley.

But we're not talking about the defensive coordinator. Phillips will hopefully (likely) install a better overall scheme that doesn't put his players in position to fail. What this guy can do is coach up and teach his players better techniques. Again, read it again and note how specifica he is in terms of what he plans to implement.

I don't think so. I think Bush's firing was such a known outcome for so long that when it finally actually happened, it barely registered with fans. But to fire three defensive coaches and bring in a pretty big replacement, in terms of money, clout and scheme, represents significant change, IMO. I mean, if at this time last year, I would have told you Wade Phillips would be our DC and we'd be switching to a 3-4, you would have thought I was crazy.

So I just don't buy that McNair is *unwilling* to make changes. I definitely think he goes out of his way to not make changes. But 8 or fewer wins, I'm guessing, will trigger changes. I think Kubiak is on thin(ner) ice right now - Phillips' hiring has McNair's fingerprints all over it.

Thats Kubiak talk for "I don't care how old this player is, I'm calling him kid so people will think he still has upside and a limitless ceiling so I can justify my decisions to keep playing guys that suck because I'm too dense or lazy to make any changes."

This is what I don't get, at all. He (his defense) sucked on historical levels consistently through the first half of the season. But not even a blip about his job being in danger. There's only a couple of reasons I see why he wasn't tossed by the bye. And the biggest was to scapegoat him at the end of the year, thus covering the asses of the other asses. Second would be finding a suitable replacement, but hey, there were 4-5 recent ex-Bronco DCs to choose from.

    Wilson cut
    Cushing SILB
    Ryans WILB
    Barwin WOLB?
    Nading a backup OLB?

I overall approve of the moves, logic somehow creeped into the front office. I'll have full faith in Ryans' return when I see him in game action. I still wonder if Cushing might be better off at SOLB, but we'll see who we go battlefighting with.
