It's my assumption that Wade will not push for him. His system seems predicated on his front 3 (4) getting penetration every down and a de-emphasis on a traditional space eating, gap-filling NT. Personally, I think it's too high risk a system....but that's what he likes and wants. I don't think Rodgers fits his mold.....but I personally would want him here. I think it's a 1-in-10 shot we even talk seriously with him
I tend to agree with this, but I don't see why it would hurt to bring him in as added depth. I don't think he's going to be demanding the same type of money Schobel was, and I don't think having a space-eating NT is EVER a bad thing. If anything, he would give our D-line a veteran presence, and by all accounts, he's a good teammate and a solid locker room personality. If the Texans REALLY want to start modeling themselves after the Steelers, bringing in quality depth is a good place to start. This shouldn't be our only transaction addressing the D-Line, but I think it's an excellent way to kick-off the off-season. With all that being said, there is no way in hell the Texans sign him. It goes against everything the stubborn-as-mules coaching staff and front office believe in. They would rather continue to try and build through the draft year and year out than try to finally give this team some actual leadership.
Is he related to a coach presently on the Texans? After that I think we have covered all bases the Texans scouting and front office looks for in a player. 1.) Ex-bronco? 2.) Battlin?????? 3.) No flaws in character. Only in their game is flaws acceptable. 4.) Nepotism present = 100% chance of signing. I can also add: 5.) Is he a TE? 6.) Does he trip/fall when running? 7.) Aww shucks?
Total aside, and I have no real idea who exactly came up with this term, but can someone with a slight modicum of photoshop/design skills make a Texans "battlefight" themed t-shirt or logo or something? I know *where* it came from, I've heard waaaay too much from McNair/Kubiak/etc over the past few years; but it cracks me up every time I hear/read it. Doesn't have to use the trademarked logo or anything, wouldn't want to run afoul of the suits, although I guess we could get Madmax to defend us.
That should just be our freaking slogan for eternity.... HOUSTON TEXANS - We're not as bad as everyone thinks! Seriously Vance, the secondary is EXACTLY as bad as everyone thinks.....
That isn't even true. Jackson was a 3 year starter at Alabama. That was one of his selling points. Nice to know Joseph did his homework.
We've heard it all before, Vance. Every assistant comes in here saying he just needs to tweak a few things with technique and things will get better. Show me don't tell me. Besides, the more he talks about how this historically bad defense isn't "as bad as people think it is", the more Bob McNair will interpret that as him saying we will be fine with the players we already have. No need to make any big FA signings. The new coach will fix EVERYTHING. Wade (whose father, Bum, is a HOUSTON ICON) will turn Connor Barwin into the next DeMarcus Ware. Book it. Also, kind of funny how the article doesn't even mention Antwaun Molden. Does this guy really exist? I've seen his name on the roster for YEARS but I don't know that I've ever seen him on the field. He's like the Phantom of the Texans. Who wants to bet he'll be on the roster again next year?
This organization seems ridiculously prone to that. McNair seems entirely unable to sniff out the B.S. That may be a problem for other organizations too..but it's absolutely a problem for the Houston Texans.
Colts released Bob Sanders today. He's only played 9 games in 3 years, but I'm desperate enough at safety to give him a shot and hope for a miracle.
He has played more than 6 games in a season exactly twice in his 7 year career, the guy is made of glass
It's crazy how injury-prone he is. I was at the game this past season when he spear-tackled one of our guys, and left the game. Jokingly, I looked at my brother and said "Welp, that was a solid 1 1/2 quarters for Bob Sanders. Might as well shut him down." And sure enough, it came out that he had severely injured himself on that play. The combination of his fragile body plus the reckless manner in which he plays is bad juju for the longevity of his career.
Lets bring in Terrance Newman and Ed Reed...Give Newman an incentive based deal for 2 yrs....He may be motivated in a new uni...And give Ed Reed whatever the hell he wants for 2 yrs...and presto!!!!...we have a playoff team finally
You make it sound so easy. Except both of those guys are under contract with their teams, and especially in Reed's case there is almost no chance they would inexplicably cut him.
I actually thought it was an interesting read. He was pretty honest and, all things considered, fairly damning. He called out the secondary (note: he made no comment on our two starting safeties), called out the pass rush and, very subtly, went to town on the former defensive coaches. In fact, read it again - he's all but calling out the former staff as poor teachers with a poor scheme. I'm telling you - I not arguing 10-6. But this team has definitely improved through the simple act of subtraction.
