Hence the reason the Texans were able to score at will on them... once you control their pass rush, their corners can't handle one-on-one coverage. With the Jets, you may not contain their rush all that well... even then, their elite corners can handle one-on-one defense better than any other corners. Still doesn't mean they automatically shut down every pass game... but I'd much rather have their secondary than the Ravens'.
Silver Lining: the lesser the CB we get to face #1 WRs, the fewer times teams might throw at Kareem Jackson. #winning These CBs can stay with their man deep, and that powerblitz front won't let QBs wait on deep plays to develop. Jets would be monsters with this group. Don't forget that the team they're most concerned with is the Pats (same division, means difference between WC or Bye) followed by the Colts. They're already run stuffing studs, and the teams they are focused on beating aren't elite on the ground. Not sure how to even take this. He "heard from" the Texans? "Hello?" "Yes?" "Is this Melvin Bullitt, free agent safety?" "Yup. Who's calling?" "We're the Texans. How're things?" "Pretty good." "Yeah. Crazy free agency, huh?" "Yeah" "You looking around? Staying?" "I dunno. I want to stay, but there's this hold up with Peyton's deal. My agent's worried there might not be enough cash for me" "Ooooh. Well, um, you know, if things don't work out, what it be okay if we called again?" "Yeah, sure. That'd be fine." "GREAT! Thanks! Talk to you later!" "Right...you too. Bye now." "Bye!"
Obviously it seems we have a chance with Nnamdi if we offer a lot more than NY. Numerous reports have them being able to offer 12-13 mil a year. What would we have to offer to keep him from NY? If NY's offer is 12 mil a year, Im thinking 16 mil might be enough! If its a 5-6 year contract, that would be 20-24 mil more over the life of the deal! Hard to pass up that much money!
Actually it would be more if we just matched their offer. No state income tax and much lower cost of living in Houston.
Need 2 CBs for that to happen, and even then, the franchise is going to be slow to yank a first rounder from the starting lineup. Okoye's enjoyed that BS unwritten rule for several years.
very tired of hearing that... just because no one gives a crap when signing contracts, so there's no point in using it as a talking point anymore
Nope. It's clear that Nnamdi has a woody for that team. He wants the polar opposite of his Raiders situation. We'd be an improvement for him, but the Jets have already shown they are ready to contend. Besides, nothing is keeping him from living in Houston, or Orlando for tax reasons.
I dont think cost of living is gonna play much of a part!! State income tax pretty much gets canceled out by more endorsement deals playing in NY! Base year and guaranteed money has to be quite a bit more than NY to convince him to come here!
I just love exclamation points!! I don't feel super excited, but the period button is broken on my keyboard! I hope the Texans get Nnamdi and another CB to boot!!!!! (sorry man, just had to kid around with you )
I'm getting really worried that we're all going to be extremely disappointed with how this FA frenzy turns out. Like, moreso than usual.
I'm not saying that he would choose us due to those reasons. We have seen countless times that it doesn't always come down to money. Forget Aso. It should be easy to convince Joseph to choose the Texans over the Bengals.
I just heard Paul Poslusky (sp) claim it was a major factor in him choosing Jax over Buffalo. It may be annoying to hear it said in every thread but that doesn't make if false. The fact thst it isn't humid in Az does make the heat more bearable, etc.
I am too. I have refreshed this thread a thousand times today. It's more of a stressful feeling as opposed to the feeling I got during the NBA trade deadline time.
