Wish we could have just moved them for something instead of cutting them but that means someone needed to want them
According to over the cap “New GM Nick Caserio adjusted Mercilus’s contract to gain cap space for 2021, by shifting money to the 2022 salary cap. In March, $6 million of Mercilus’ scheduled $10.5 million base salary was converted to signing bonus for salary cap purposes. This move saved the team $2.9 million in 2021 cap dollars at the time. However this shifted dead money to 2022. The team also added a void clause to the contract for the 2022 league year. The team was and is still scheduled to have a $7 million dead money charge in 2022 (originally would have been $3 million).”
So in order to clean up that ****er BoB's mess, he adjusted his salary to save $ this season, but we'll be screwed next year with Whitney's ****ed up contract. Great. Thanks BoB, you piece of ****.
That’s the thing some people being really hard on Caserio by losing trades for day 3 picks and other things. But they don’t realize or want to mention the fact he came in ABSOLUTELY handcuffed in this situation. This wasn’t in no way a team where Caserio was walking into with the top pick in the draft and tons of cap space. No picks No cap Team full of horrible contracts Team full of overpaid underperforming player The teams franchise QB having 22 sexual assault cases Just a ABSOLUTE MESS And he still chose to come here why you ask….Because he has been giving total and full control…because he wanted a team of his own…and he’s really truly starting from the bottom starting from scratch.. People really thought this was going to be overturned over night or in a year or 2 are delusional…now Watson being traded will speed it up because of the assets we can get but still…. It was always going to take a year or 2 minimum to just even try to recoup the draft capital and get rid of the bad contracts and clean up the cap situation. So everybody just let Caserio work and give him time.
What you do with a little, you will do with a lot! He's messed up three lower level trades this yr; Miller, Lawson and Cannon AND you want us to TRUST him when we has more to work with?? PLEASE! You put lipstick on a pig......it's still a pig!
Do they even have a plan? Do they know what they’re doing? You tell me they’re “tanking” or “rebuilding” and “Davis Mills needs a long look” but signed a bunch of has been washed up veterans in the off-season. Players-only meeting 5 weeks in and releasing veterans. So just what the hell are they doing? Danny Amendola Antony Auclair Justin Britt Terrence Brooks Rex Burkhead Geron Christian Sr. Maliek Collins Chris Conley Jeff Driskel Kamu Grugier-Hill Neville Hewitt Mark Ingram II Jordan Jenkins Jaleel Johnson Desmond King II Christian Kirksey Phillip Lindsay Justin McCray Terrance Mitchell Chris Moore Andre Roberts DeMarcus Walker Kevin Pierre-Louis Marcus Cannon Tyrod Taylor Vincent Taylor Cre'von LeBlanc Hardy Nickerson Derek Rivers Lane Taylor https://theathletic.com/2898510/202...tney-mercilus-why-now-who-will-be-next-to-go/ The Texans felt they couldn’t meet Hopkins’ price because they wanted to pay other players, including the now-released Mercilus.
Sneak in 3 years of "competion" then another 5 years for the rebuild. The Detroit lions only allowed the "patriots way" to go on for 3 seasons. This plan sells Cal on the Patriots way for another solid decade without having to worry about building the wall somewhere else.
We all knew this year was a utter and complete wash. And if you didn’t then your delusional. Ok they signed a bunch of washed up vets and…. If people go back to all of Caserios interviews and press conferences he’s always mentioned how about just trying to hit singles and maybe some doubles hopefully while using a baseball reference. It’s going to take TIME cleaning up all of O’Brien’s mess.
The problem with the lions is they hired Matt Patricia who while he coached a while in New England…Falls under the classic coaching failures from New England. And look at Watsons darling team the dolphins Flores has lost the team and locker room. Another New England coaching failure. Just please go back and look at articles regarding Caserio and how he works and all the things he did in New England how his departure effected the patriots.
Nick is doing a great job in Tampa. That's who made everything work in NE. I like Caserio but until he makes this his own , that means finding new slogans on his own not regurgitated Bellichick word vomit or until Nick does away with the guy who will eventually betray him in the future, Nick has to earn his title. Or a we going to applaud Easterby for landing him here? Then we should applaud O'Brien for bringing in Jack. Right now Nick is just the guy who a Charlatan brought over to save his skin. Entitled. Clearing the cap, you go look at the beginning of this thread. We did it better.
I can see how most people feel that way and that’s understandable. But what’s not understandable is people expecting that Caserio turn this around over night. And expecting quick results. I just don’t get it.
