The GM of the team has come out and said that he doesn't really care if the Texans win games this year. Now, I agree with him...... but it is rare for someone to come out and say it. So all the fans saying "I think 8-8 is doable" or "We won't be terrible." should be adjust their expectations as this team IS going to be terrible. There is also an opportunity to make some money off this team early in the season as well before all the losses stack up.
Its not tanking when the team legitimately stinks. Is there a better player in next years draft than Kayvon Thibodeux?
Texans weren’t going to win many games this season, but trading away good players like roby means they’re tanking. You tank for qbs not for DEs.
You tank because not only is the first pick valuable, but the first pick IN EVERY ROUND is valuable. They have to rebuild the roster completely.
Texans are not making personnel moves to facilitate winning this season. So in essence, they are tanking. But I figure the players will play to win, nonetheless the general consensus is likely that the Texans obvious have inferior talent for practically every game this season. At least those weekly loses won’t feel as sad, since the season have almost already waved the white flag for win this season.
It isn't like they are tanking with a team that could win 10 games..... they are capable of what, 6 wins? Would you rather have 2-3 wins and the first pick each round or 6 wins and draft 10th? It is all a cost and benefit analysis. Getting the #1 pick has value, even if a QB doesn't emerge... the Texans can even trade down if they want to.... someone will want to take a QB at the top of this draft, if the Texans aren't sold, trade down and collect assets over the next few seasons. This team has holes everywhere, so this isn't going to be a one season turn around. The hope is that the Texans get some draft assets for Watson and some of the veterans on the team, that the Texans draft well with those assets and their own picks and the team is good and maybe great 3-4 years down the road. Maybe the Texans draft a franchise QB in 2022 and are competitive in 2023.... but even that is really optimistic. The theory is we have a good draft evaluator with Caserio and his staff, and we want to give him as many draft picks and cap space as possible to rebuild the team into a team that will be competitive and very good for years.
Quarterbacks have a larger impact..... so the question should be is there a QB that a team can win with in this draft? If the answer is yes, then they should go #1.
Not if the quality of prospect is less than desired. This years NCAA QB prospects are less than tantalizing. Not enough to warrant passing on a day 1 impact maker for this defense. 2022 has the QBs you can build with.
There isn’t. And I’m more convinced now that what all the experts where saying is true. That Davis Mills would be a top 10-15 pick in this years draft.
Bless your heart. This team was destined to be bad from the minute #4 posted the first rap lyric my guy. LOL @ this team tanking.
I’m honestly kinda glad they’re going to take this approach knowingly and not try to squeeze out pointless wins to remain in the middle of mediocrity. Full blow up and stack draft assets.
