Thats how you go about working in a young QB. Dont pussyfoot and coddle the guy. Throw him in the fire and see how he reacts. You will know soon enough if he's worth the investment in time and you reduce the time necessary to alleviate the issues with the position.

Texans should start Davis Mills day 1 - what do they have to lose?

There is an experience gap between Mac Jones and Davis Mills

Unless the kid is sitting behind a HOF type QB who he can actually learn from sitting behind Tyrod Taylor is not going to show him much. Same thinking I would guess from the Hoodie in NE. What was Mac Jones going to learn from Cam Newton?

Has nothing about learning from CAM NEWTON. It is about learning how to prepare, how QBs react in certain situations, and not making a ton of mistakes that can kill a young QB's confidence. Mills is not ready to start.

then it was another wasted 3rd round pick. So we'll just wait what another year? Two? Before he's "ready"? SMH.

I would love it too. Davis Mills is pure trash and will guarantee us the number 1 over all pick. I don't even need to watch a game to know we wasted our third round pick on this Joker.

Ain't no way we lucky enough to get a franchise qb in the third round the year we decide to trade the only one we've ever had in our existence.

Here's to sucking for 15 more years!

Um...3rd round QBs are not draft to start year 1. They are developmental QBs.

Yeah, normally I’d agree with you on this, but Mills is so far away from being NFL ready I don’t think it would work this time. It would be like asking a rock to sink or swim.

On that same thought other than Russell Wilson has there been another "successful" 3rd round QB selected in the last decade? (I'll answer that for you - NOPE - notable 3rd round QBs?? = Mike Glennon, Cody Kessler, Mason Rudolph, Will Grier)

But Davis Mills was labeled a "steal" when drafted wasnt he? Im trying hard to be even keeled, but its kind of my point. Why wait a year or two to find out you struck out? Saving his feelings and confidence? Really? SMH.

Damn I wish we had a buttchinned QB Whisperer right about now! -------------> /s

I agree, but what are we playing for this year anyway? If the dude is gonna David Carr then lets get on with it, but hopefully have enough stones to cut the string early enough instead of trying to save face.

Russell Wilson would have been a 1st round pick if it wasn't for his height..so he was an exception. Mills was hurt by the COVID schedule of the PAC-12 last season. So he has limited game experience compared to other QBs listed. It doesn't mean he can't be good, it means he needs more time.

How much time you ready to give him? Just curious.

Start him. Worst case you secure the number one pick, and your choice of quarterback. Best case, he learns quickly on the fly, and you find out you can use your number one pick next year to draft a stud receiver or pass rusher.

    Literally nothing to lose.

You have him under a rookie contract. The timetable is based on what the coaches see. Could he play games later in the season? Sure. You don't have to throw him out week 1.
