Even more sad is that his competition was a fullback. Rock Cartwright (former Conroe Tiger) is the incumbent. He's not going to break many, but he'll consistently get you past the 20. Mathis, in shape, should have been able to win that job pretty easily.
MIAMI (AP)—Offensive lineman Steve McKinney, coming back from a knee injury that forced him to miss most of the 2007 season, signed a contract Monday to join the Miami Dolphins. The deal was confirmed by the office of McKinney’s agent, Tim Irwin. The 6-foot-4, 302-pound McKinney was a starter in each of his first eight NFL seasons, but after he allowed 9 sacks in 2005 he became a part-time center for Houston. He tore his left anterior cruciate ligament in the Texans’ third game last year and missed the rest of the season. On March 25 the Texans released McKinney, 32, who is still rehabilitating his knee. Once healthy, he’s expected to compete for playing time at guard or as a backup to starting center Samson Satele. The Dolphins waived guard Drew Mormino last week after he failed a physical. Following a 1-15 season in 2007, the Dolphins are revamping their offensive line under new head coach Tony Sparano, who was offensive line coach for the Dallas Cowboys. The Dolphins said they were not yet ready to confirm McKinney’s deal. He’s the older brother of Seth McKinney, was played center and guard for the Dolphins in 2002-05.
^^^ I was kind of hoping to bring him back as a backup/depth. At least he'll get a shot at starting there if he recovers in time.
Andre Johnson underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and will miss the team's OTAs. http://www.houstontexans.com/news/story_4326.html Hopefully this won't creep up again during the season...
Hopefully Dre can make it back 100 percent, I want to see what this team can do healthy, I think they might shock a lot of teams with how good they are. To me if they are healthy their only weaknesses are possibly the running game and secondary.
It is a bit of a concern that this keeps coming up...but it sounds like this is something that really wouldn't limit him in games. I mean, he says it was bothering him during the latter part of last season. He looked fantastic during the latter part of last season. If it continues to crop up, then I'm worried...but that they took the time during OTAs to go in and do a little clean up doesn't bother me. Especially if it keeps Andre happy.
On the radio this morning, they said it was for the league minimum and one year, you would have thought the Texans could do that... I guess it's time for new blood.
Right now for him, it may be all about proving he can still play another year and not wanting his career to end on an injury. He went to a team where he thought he could make the final cut. McKinney's injury last season was the death of our running game.
Okam has always had the tools/potential to be a really good player. Hopefully he can contribute early on like Kubiak said.
Per kubiak, Tim Bulman is currently ahead of him on the depth chart as the 1st team NT. Don't know if TJ has been moved over to being behind Okoye or where he is on NT Depth chart.
Okam wants to get a law degree? Okoye wants to go to medical school? We must have the smartest D-line in the league! GOD, I'm already sick of baseball. I'm ready for some FOOTBALL. When does training camp start? This is my least favorite part of the year....
TJ has been hurt for most of the OTAs so guys like Bulman and Okam have been getting a ton of reps. Like the article says, Okam could be a big part of the team in that his size could help free up Okoye and Mario.
deja vu. Colvin visits Houston http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/5817469.html Would be a great pickup. But I think it's going to be just like his last visit.
I really hope we sign Colvin if he's healthy. He could be that SLB on 1st/2nd and then be edge rusher on 3rds with Greenwood and Ryans handling the LBs corps
