Bob McNair's worst nightmare came true today. The Texans played one of their worst games they have ever played and the offense, in particular, David Carr was a joke. Carr's numbers are pathetic, 10 TDs in 11 gms and can only throw little dumpoffs and today made it clear that he CANNOT be the QB of this team beyond this yr. Meanwhile, in Nashville, Vince Young did what he does. He puts his team on his shoulders and leads them to a win trailing 21-0 in the 4th. They rally around him and he did on the ground and in the air and just made the plays and refused to lose. Something David Carr will never do. You couldn't have written a better script for Vince Young to be the Texans QB. It was the perfect situation. He goes to Madison High and has one of the best high schoo careers ever, goes to UT, puts the team on his back and carries them to 2 Rose Bowl wins, including a National Championship in one of the greatest individual performances in college football history, in the biggest game in college football history, and he comes out early.. All the while his hometown Houston Texans are in the midst of a 2-14 season in which they get the #1 pick in the draft and David Carr had his 4th awful season in as many yrs, and wants more than anything to play for Houston. The Texans hire a coach because he said he could win with David, and they give Carr a 3yr contact extension and pass on Vince Young. They passed one of the most special QBs to come along in yrs. A guy that is one of the most poised QBs I have ever seen, can make all of the throws from the pocket or on the run, is one of the best scramblers ever with huge strides that eat up yardage and is very hard to tackle, a winner, a leader, all the intangibles and more, and we let him go. Not just let him go, but let him go to Satan, errrrrrrrrrr Bud Adams and the former Oilers. They let friggin Michael Jordan in cleats go. McNair and the Texans will NEVER live it down, it was one of the stupidest decisions ever made in sports. They must have been a lot more than drunk, they must have been totally stoned, drunk, high on crack, or heroin or something. It was so obvious.
After that pathetic exhibition today, I could not agree more. We should have Sage as our starting QB next year and get a QB in the draft maybe with Carr's cosmetic numbers some team out there that can make some use and actually do something unfortunately elsewhere and we can get an extra draft pick to boot. Despite all that is wrong with this franchise, at least they know how to draft players. For what it's worth. Have to admit Kolb's numbers are pretty damn good. Over 3,000 yds, 26 TDs, 5 Ints! It might be an accidental chance for the club to win back some credibility with the fans, but yes we only get excuses with Carr and I am sick of excuses. I'm very frustrated with this team. So many holes. So much dead weight, so little time. As McElvoy said on Ch 2, "I think I saw high school playoff teams orchestrate better offenses than ... " Sad commentary, just SAD!!!
5 straight terrible losing seasons. They have made every excuse in the book, the o-line, no weapns, its the coaches. well we have brought in an offensive/quarterback guru, we have changed the o-line, he has Andre and Eric moulds and Owen Daniels and we have a better defense. we have made changes and we still suck, the one constant is David Carr. We have to make a change, there is no way this team can ever rebuild or begin to succeed with Carr as the QB. Just face it, it didn't work, move on.
One of the Carr lovers called in to 610 this morning to announce that Carr has never had the help he really needs to be the great QB he can become...because Andre Johnson is overrated and really isn't a good receiver. I'm so tired of excuses.
I heard that guy, what a dumbass. Blame it on Andre. the guy is going to the Pro Bowl this yr, and is one of the most gifted recivers in football. He also has Moulds and Daniels and still sucked when we had Domanick Davis in there, and all he did was use him as a crutch. Carr has plenty enough support to be winning.
carr was awful yesterday. unfortunately, we have a half-ass local media who can't bother to ask pertinent questions like, "david, is your bruised shoulder still bothering you?" i think that's impacting the vertical passing game more than is being said - bruised shoulders are frickin dicey. trust me. but carr had the texans in position to win the previous three weeks and the team around him failed - they fumbled, dropped key passes, missed field goals, and committed ill-timed penalities... week in and week out, the team is having to rely on average to below-average players to make plays. plus.... (deep breath) i like kubiak. a lot. but he's made some rather dubious choices since taking over and i'm starting to waver a teeny tiny bit. the team coming out flat in every single third quarter falls on his shoulders; the lack of talent/depth along the OL and in the backfield is on his shoulders; his clock management and playcalling have been widly inconsistent. i think he'll straighten it out and continue to rebuild the roster, but he's struggling, too. guy - it's going to take a year or two longer...
Excuses are all that's left. True this team is bad everywhere especially in the offensive line but it's past time to acknowledge that the starting QB is bad as well. What's happening here is akin to what's happened in Denver where the plug was FINALLY pulled on Plummer after he was given multiple chances to succeed. You can make do with a poor QB only for so long. It's been 5 years and the offense still looks horrible and the one constant has been at the QB position. Carr is a real nice guy but he does not make big plays when it counts and he does not win games. At some point, Carr has to be evaluated on his ability to put points on the board. The question now is whether Kubiak will do what's right for the franchise and get another QB prospect in here or continue to lurch along with DC like he did with Plummer. And we all can see how that little "experiment" panned out for Denver.
Uh, say what you want about Vince, but let's not act like Mario hasn't been a good pick for us. He has.
We went from one of the worst defenses that I can ever remember to having a defense ranked in the top 5 over a span of 5 games just a year later. That has a lot to do with our first pick.
they drafted four legitimate starters last april. considering their first 4 drafts yielded 9 total (and at least 4 of those - t. johnson, cc brown, earl and faggins are very nearly starters by default while 3 more - carr, pitts and weary - are stuck somewhere between default and legitimate starters), i'd like to think (hope) those days are behind us.
You're right. And like I said, I really like Mario a lot. He's easy to root for. But he's not who I would have picked with that #1 pick.
WHich 5 games? The most recent 5? Then your point is valid. If it's the first 5, then it's meaningless since the Texans have the 6th worst defense in the NFL for the season. http://www.nfl.com/stats/teamsort/NFL/DEF-TOTAL/2006/regular?sort_col_1=4 It's interesting that Tennessee has been able to win 4 of the last 6 with the worst defense.
I'm not sure about this week since our pass defense was pretty terrible, but I'm pretty sure the 5 games before the Buffalo games are the ones I'm referring to. Even after the mid-point of the first quarter of that Bills game, our defense was very solid.
