NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Bennie Joppru NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Wayne Hunter OT | (6-5, 303, 5.12) | HAWAII By Pro Football Weekly Notes: In high school, played basketball and was a track weight man. Also part of canoe team and played linebacker. Played in 10-of-12 games on the defensive line at the University of California as a true freshman in 1999, recording 14 tackles, including five tackles for loss. Redshirted in 2000 after transferring to Hawaii. Played in 11-of-12 games in '01, starting two at defensive tackle, recording 12 tackles and one for loss, but was hampered by a back injury most of the season. Moved to the other side of the ball and started 13-of-14 games at left tackle last fall, missing the finale for disciplinary reasons. Entered the NFL draft with one year of eligibility remaining. Improved his stock immensely at the Combine, when he benchpressed 225 pounds 37 times and ran a 5.1 40. Positives: Big, physical, athletic player with a huge up side. Very strong. Has long arms and a powerful punch. Locks on and is very aggressive. Tough and nasty with some athletic ability. Thick and wide. Good in small areas. OK adjusting in space. Huge frame and should have no problem adding 20-30 pounds. Good footwork. Great upper-body strength and explosion. Negatives: Played tackle just one year. Lacks technique and polish. Played in a predominantly passing offense and does not run block well. Average mental alertness. Not the most consistent. Gets off the ball slowly on running plays and can improve his leg drive. Summary: May not be ready to contribute immediately, but he may have more up side than any other lineman in the draft because he has great athleticism and can be molded.
Bennie Joppru TE | (6-4, 272, 4.8) | MICHIGAN By Pro Football Weekly Notes: Redshirted in 1998, started once in '99, seven times in 2000 and three times in '01. Caught four passes for 51 yards and two touchdowns in 1999; 11-52-0 in 2000; and 17-118-1 in '01. Set Michigan single-season record for receptions by a tight end in '02, when he caught 53-579-5 and was a second-team All-Big Ten pick. Team co-captain as a senior. Wowed some personnel types at the Senior Bowl, when he was the lone tight end on the North roster and made acrobatic catches all week, then stood out in position drills at the Scouting Combine. Positives: Durable, reliable, above-average athlete with good to very good hands. Takes the ball out of the air like a vacuum cleaner and plucks the ball. Is capable of playing tight end or H-back and quick enough to get open, even down the seam. Makes the effort to block. Made positive strides as a senior, when he became more focused. Looks the part and has good body control. Negatives: Average blocker. Rounds some cuts. Doesn't have West Coast offense TE speed. Inconsistent route-runner, who can refine those skills. Basically a possession receiver who rarely goes down the field. Not very physical. Questionable character early in his career, but he has matured. Summary: Stock rose tremendously during his senior year. Isn't an elite athlete, but he has great hands, and if he works to improve blocking, he could become a complete NFL tight end.
Why didn't we pick Witten? I thought he was better than Joppru. The Texans are stacking their offense.
Witten was still there, and we got Joppru?? What about E.J. Henderson? Wayne Hunter? I'm never watching another Texans game AGAIN!!!! Don't hold me to that.
This is pretty pathetic. If we wanted Benny Joprou, we shouldve traded down again. I doubt teams were clamoring for Benny Jopru in the 2nd round. Figures.
Henderson was already taken by the Vikings the pick right before the Texans. I am suprised by this pick even though Joppru is going to be a good tight end in my opinion. The Jeremy Shockey effect.
Nice interview by Capers Q: by berman What's the things you look for from this year to next year? A:"I think improvement is the key" Wow what a genius.
Agreed, it's pathetic. They keep talking over all the selections and cutting to commercial. It's like they got so far behind during that first-round frenzy with Minnesota, they just said "Screw it, we might as well give up, let's just do whatever".
has chris brown been taken yet? I hoping to god that Brown or Onterrio Smith are still there for us...
Maybe we're planning on packaging 2 3rd rounders for a second rounder. One can only hope, especially with some decent names still left on the board. Wow. Bethel Johnson went before Chris Simms. Bwa ha ha ha!!!
Yes, they're available. But Brown is too lanky, and runs upright (like George). Onterrio is small. What can you tell me about him?
