The Yankees are paying Henson 12 million dollars. They have Robin Ventura and Todd Zeile at third. The Texans have #1 overall pick David Carr at QB. I don't know if there was a worse pick in the draft. I guess you don't really expect much from a sixth rounder, but you really don't need to throw it away.
I think the Texans pick up Drew Henson in case he comes back into football and we could trade for good picks. Henson is regarded is a great qb from michigan before he went to baseball. I think the Texans were pretty smart for getting Henson IMO just to get trade value for him. He is not going to replace David Carr at all.
When was the last time Drew Henson threw I pass? I didn't even know he still played football. More wasted picks by Casserly. He's doing his best to screw the Texans over.
we only keep his rights til before next years draft though.. then he just goes back into the draft pool i think? so we'd have to find someone to take him, and i guess henson woudl have to agree to sign.... with them. but wouldn't he just probably enter the draft again so he could be a high pick.....
We have 12 months. We don't hold have him forever. Think about this: Drew Henson has a guaranteed 12 million 3 year contract. If you were Henson, why not wait a year until you become a free agent. Much more leverage, much more bargaining position.
Too bad Texans are an expansion team. Their suckiness will be blamed on it when their drafting has to be questioned.
Drew Henson: Baseball is my game -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ex-Wolverines QB starting to get in swing The Associated Press TAMPA, Fla. - NFL fans and officials take note. Drew Henson remains committed to baseball. The New York Yankees had originally hoped the former Michigan quarterback would have been ready to play third base at Yankee Stadium this season. But struggles at Triple-A Columbus last year put those plans on hold and fueled speculation again that a pro football career might instead be ahead for Henson. The 23-year-old Henson reiterated Monday that his future is in baseball, even though he remains eligible for the NFL draft in late April. "I'm not going to go play football," Henson said. "I get defensive probably more so than at first. It offends me because people will think, 'Well, he made a decision and now he's going to switch back.' That's not the type of person I am." Henson hit .240 with 18 homers and 65 RBIs in 128 games last year at Columbus, striking out 151 times in 471 at-bats. He also made his major league debut, striking out in his only official at-bat, and scoring a run. Henson gave up football when he signed a $17 million, six-year contract in 2001. "I want to be in New York and I want to help contribute," Henson said. "Until I'm playing every day in the big leagues, football is going to be an issue. People are always going to wonder because that's what fans do." Yankees manager Joe Torre talked with Henson last week and told him just to relax. During an intrasquad game Monday, Henson went 1-for-2 with a single and robbed Alfonso Soriano of a hit with a diving catch at third base. "He looked loose," Torre said. "I think he's put a lot of pressure on himself. The most important thing for him to do is just enjoy it. Hopefully last year was a good lesson for him." Henson took more than a month off after playing in the Arizona Fall League, visiting family and friends from San Diego to New York. "I just got tired and run down," Henson said of his first full pro baseball season. "I ran out of gas. Going into this season, I know how long it's going to be." Henson admitted being wound up too tight. "I was complicating things," Henson said. "React and trust my athletic abilities. When everything gets right and I'm where I want to be, I think I'll appreciate it a lot more because of the things I've gone through to get there." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't get it
Possible reasons for this strange draft strategy: 1) Maybe Casserly knows something about the June 1 cuts that the general public doesn't, like the particular quality of players available (and maybe even WHO will be cut). 2) EVERYBODY coming out of college sucks, and the Texans draft board is in actuality a sticky note with 4 players scribbled on it. Consequently, 2 of the 4 players on the sticky note are QBs... 3) Maybe some other GM gave Casserly a space cake (ask your local stoner for more details) before the draft started. Both days. 4) Perhaps the real Casserly is in a coma after having sex with some floozy, thereby prompting Capers to seek draft help from a Casserly look-a-like. See the movie "Dave" for a better example of this. 5) Casserly has asked John Edward (that psychic guy on TV) to consult the recently departed Joel Buschbaum to help out with the draft, but Edward is f***ing it up. 6) Someone MUST has naughty photos of Casserly.
http://www.houstontexans.com The Texans webmaster is even cracking jokes about Drew Henson on their front page! What a joke!!!
With our 7th round selection we need to try to get the best General Manager left on the board. That's probably our biggest team need at this point.
We have another 6th round pick. Watch us get Ken Dorsey for when Henson says "HELL NO" to the Texans.
http://www.houstontexans.com/multimedia/webcam.cfm Casserly is on the phone explaining his draft selections to Bob McNair and possibly our Franchise quarterback!
Texans remaining draft board, best available players: 1. Art Schichter, QB 2. Bo Jackson, RB-OF 3. Major Applewhite, QB 4. Tommie Frazier, QB
We might be able to trade up to steal Nate Hybl too!!!!! and don't forget about Farris from A&M. Hey,, isn't Odell James and Shea Morenz out there somewhere too?
