From NFLDraftBible: Skinny: Darryl Sharpton is yet another top linebacker for the University of Miami (FL) that has tons of potential at the next level. When you watch Sharpton on the field, you see a fluid and speedy linebacker that is also a ball magnet. He is a great sideline-to-sideline player that puts himself in position to make plays. He has a great head on his shoulders, is very mature, and conducts himself like a true professional. In 2008, Sharpton logged 66 tackles, six tackles-for-loss, and 1.5 sacks for Randy Shannon's defense
I agree with the philosphy...but just at a position of need. We should have reached on a FS or CB...or anything but a LB. Hope the guy can play though, and maybe as someone mentioned above to give some competition for Diles. I do think this was a Special teams pick though, and it's something this team does focus on and a area we do well in.
WTF? Guess they love him, but I can't see him playing if Ryans is healthy. Guard/Center or FS seemed like the way to go though.
I see no Samoans in the list in post #886 There was an interesting article this morning on identifying a gene that predicts the capacity to kill, it's found in about 30% of western men but in 56% of Maori men. here: http://www.scientificamerican.com/blog/post.cfm?id=why-soldiers-get-a-kick-out-of-kill-2010-04-23
Like Cannonball stated earlier, this isn't really an area of the draft where you address needs. We still need depth at EVERY position.
I love the pick. Another beast Linebacker to shut down the run game when our LBs get tired. How is this guy in coverage? HAHAHA LENDALE WHITE. NANANA NANANA HEY HEY GOOD BYE. (Note: I know that was lame. I don't care.) Have a good day :]
Well, then it was the least that the Texans could do to take him off of their boards altogether. That's how we roll, bro. The Houston Texans - Ridding NFL Teams, One Bad Player At A Time.
Certainly, its a crapshoot at this point. I just don't agree with the "He was the best available player" remark.
And if you want a guy, there's no way to predict when another team would take him at this point in the draft for that exact reason. You can't say "we want this guy but we think he'll be available when our next pick comes up". If you like a guy and he's at the top of your board, you have to take him when you can.
Yeah you can't project that way. Why did Tom Brady make it to the 6th round? Because he didn't start really progressing until he was making a career of football. Everyone is fast and strong. They are all projects.
Again, we're not privy to the Texans draft board and we can't look into their war room. I seriously doubt they took Sharpton while having safties and offensive/defensive linemen rated higher.
I don't think he was BPA though, at the time Campbell was (who is now a Raider) I think Texans just liked this guy. I honestly don't understand the pick. Thinking about it, looking at his scouting reports and seeing things like "Can contribute in special teams right away" probably had a lot to do with this pick. Hopefully he can at least provide some depth to the position...
Well, remember last year they took both Hill AND Casey. And it's a good thing that they did, with OD getting hurt. It may not make a lot of sense now, but they have WAY more info than we do.
