I guess I am just ok with the pick. I don't have as a much of an issue with not trading down and picking Jackson even though I do believe he would have been there later in the round; if the Texans were focused on him (and apparently they were, right or wrong) to me you just go ahead and choose the guy you want. And he does seem a Texan-type pick... balanced, provides run support. And came from a school (Alabama) and coach (Saban) they respect. But Wilson does seem the better cover DB, and I think us Texan fans would like to see impact players; guys that create turnovers. I think Wilson is that sort of guy. But I do have concerns. One of which is in the very quote from the coach they respect: Alabama Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban on Kareem Jackson: “We are very happy for Kareem Jackson as well as his family. I think it is a real credit to Kareem that he was able to elevate himself to a first-round pick with the great job he did at the combine, in his workouts and during the interview process leading up to the draft. He played a lot of very good football in his three years with us at Alabama and he will be an outstanding addition to the Houston Texans organization. Like all of our players moving on, we wish him the best, and he will always be a part of the Crimson Tide family and a part of history at the University of Alabama in terms of what was accomplished here.” From that I got the sense that before the combine Saban didn't believe Jackson was first round material. I also think I read elsewhere that Jackson wasn't the #1 CB at Alabama, and that teams threw his way more and avoided the other CB? If that is true, the number of deflections and interceptions seems low to me. But as a Texan fan I have to hope that Smith, the scouts, and the coaching staff got the right guy. And that the next days picks bring in impact players. I can't say I was overly sold on Wilson (I was hoping for Mathews). One last observation... always seems those better teams get the pieces they need. IND, NE, NO, and NYJ all got pieces that will fit right in.
Not really. Jackson will be on their best receiver, and Wilson will be covering David Anderson. Jets are so damned stacked at CB.
I believe that they will eventually have to let one go, just the economics (minus the uncapped year possibility) of football nowadays...
I'm thinking the pick will go to one of these two guys, I really like the way Tate runs a lot. Both him and Hardesty look to be between the tackle runners with Tate having that extra gear to break away for the big chunks of yardage. I don't know if these two are reaches in the 2nd but in the official "draft of the ultimate reaches" I wouldn't be surprised to hear either of these two players name called at our pick. Kareem Jackson seemed to come out of nowhere, but the more we look at him and the reasoning to select him, the more I like...pluses: supports the run well, good tackler, solid 4.48 speed, can cover (4th all time at Alabama for passes deflected), great technique and adaptive to a demanding system - In Saban's scheme a lot of times the cornerback is left out on a island... At the end of the day, we upgraded where we had to and I am happier about it...
Yeah, I was surprised also. From listening to Smith, I believe the deciding factor for Jackson was his playing on a national championship team. Also, I have heard different things about his ability to be a lockdown corner so if he can show that, then this was the right pick. However, in my mind, this draft hinges on them getting a stud running back and a big offensive lineman (guard or center). They do that and you can call this draft a success. Cowboys moving up to get Dez Bryant was dumb. Typical Jerry Jones move at playing GM.
We needed to replace or improve on Dunta and we did that for something less than $12,000,000. We had our pick of the three ranked CB's after Hadden and Thomas and picked Jackson. These are the same guys who picked Ryans and Cushing so I have full faith in their evaluation. It sounds like they tried to trade back a bit but had no takers. It takes two parties to make a deal. I won't be surprised if the second round pick is Brian Price if he is still there and RB waits until the third. Jeff Zgonina can't play forever and Price is said to be disruptive on the inside. We could probably get LeGarrette Blount as late as the 5th and fill the pile mover need.

I'm thinking we go Safety or DT here... seems that the running backs after the top 3 are really mostly indistinguishable from one another?
Saban didn't want Jackson to leave Bama until after his senior year, so that comment was just thinly veiled disappointment at the decision. And I also read that he is actually 4th all time in Alabama history in passes deflected. Scouts Inc. describes him as the "best pure cover corner" in this draft and rated 2nd overall behind Joe Haden.
For whatever bizarre reason, the ex-Broncos regime seemed to be incredibly good at finding linebackers, and incredibly BAD at finding corners. The list of nice linebackers taken extends back to D.J. Williams, Al Wilson, and John Mobley. Whereas you had 1st round busts like Dealtha O'Neal and Willie Middlebrooks. And the Texans secondary hasn't been a strength for a while now.
When they stop ****ing up i'll stop b****ing. Of and all this Scouts inc. calling Jackson a great? Same guys who said Chris Johnson was the 5th best RB in the draft. don't stain your shirt with the kool aid.
Anyone else go to the draft party? I went there only showed up for first 3 picks than left. There was a great turnout but I think too much for my liking. It seemed to be focusing on too much on the Texans cheerleaders tryouts which was a not a complete bad thing but still I wanted to watch the draft comfortably and not too crowded.
The Texans secondary hasn't been given much in terms of dollars or picks. Bennett and Molden weren't high picks. Quin and McCain look like good players for when they were picked. The secondary needs a FS.
No, this actually a good pickup. The Texans ask their corners to do a lot of run support and that fits Jackson to a "T". The fact that he wasn't rated as highly as Wilson by all of the "pundits" means nothing. If he can cover deep and he supposedly answered those questions at the combine, then you have your replacement for Robinson. Now, they'd better go for the RB in the second round or I'll be very disappointed.
