lol...listening to morons on sports radio complain about the Texans kneeling instead of trying to punch it in for the TD. i swear, we could win the Super Bowl and some one would complain about the coin flip.
The Texans are clearly still a work in progress. The second half of the Colts game and most of the Dolphins game were a bit disconcerting. They were O.K. but the red zone stalls were too reminiscent of days past. The defense wasn't lights out by any means either. BUT, it was a overall "B" performance. The next few games will determine if the Texans are really a contender. They will have to play much, much better to beat the Saints, Steelers, and Ravens. If they go 2-2 during the next four games, I am a believer. If they go 1-3, let's face it, they are a pretender. If they go 4-0, start printing the Super Bowl tickets. I am thinking 2-2 is the most likely outcome.
If we go 2-2 over this next stretch I will be THRILLED. 4-2 after the first 6 weeks was above everyone's expectations.
If we can go 2-2 over the next 4, then a 12-4 record is in the making....a probably a first round bye.
My wife was watching the last quarter of the game with me and kept complaining during that drive about how she hates it when they give it to the same guy over and over again. Because the opponent will figure it out. I had to explain to her how awesome it was that the Texans were ABLE to keep giving it to the same guy despite everyone on the field knowing it was going to happen. It seems as though our run blocking scheme gets more effective as the game goes on. I think the opponent just gets dejected after a while when they realize they just can't keep all the holes plugged and that Arian (or whoever) will find the gaps pretty much every time.
a win is a win on the road in the NFL. i'll take it. yeah, the offense will have to play better next week against NOLA...and they're certainly capable of doing so. i expect them to rise to the occasion.
I hope we can surgically transplant Foster a new hamstring by next week. Shouldn't be that difficult. It ain't brain surgery MORAN.
If they bleed, we can kill them! Eric winston has to play so much better, and tate has to do a better job recognizing where the blitz is coming from.
I'm ready for the Texans vs. Saints thread! That game has me petrified, but for some reason, I also feel like this team is capable of taking it to NOLA, and stealing that game. IF Watt and Antonio can wreak havoc in the front, that will force Brees to check down much more than he wants, and that's where this team thrives. If they allow Henderson to go over the top multiple times, then we are doomed. And offensively, we have to play MUCH better, especially on pass plays. The offensive line NEEDS to identify where the pressure is coming, and Tate needs to chip the blitzing linebacker better than he has in the first two games. I'm pumped!
Somebody needs to review the Saints-Cowboys game from 2 years ago (their super bowl season) and see what Wade's defense did to them. I like our chances... not counting on a win, but not expecting to look overmatched either.
Saints are a different team from the one that couldn't run the ball well when they played the Cows. And by now, EVERYONE has lots of film on FixIt's defense so I don't believe that the Saints will be caught off guard by the Texans' version. We are starting to see teams exploit the weaknesses inherent in his scheme but that's to be expected as all teams make adjustments over the course of a season. The true test will come when Wade has to counter these adjustments. Last year he failed miserably at doing so and the Dallas defensive standing plummeted as a result. The genius of Wade's defense lies in its simplicity but I am not convinced that the Texans have the right personnel yet to exploit it to the max.
Winston was up against Cameron Wake yesterday, who is quietly becoming one of the very top pass rushers in the league. I couldn't tell but I'm sure that those holding penalties were necessary to save Schaub from getting annihilated. Winston is fine, he just needs help against those types of pass rushers.
I did not hear that and can't find any links to it, but if so then I might retract my defense of Winston.
Yeah, Winston has had to stop Robert Mathis and Cameron Wake in the first two weeks. From the RT position he usually isn't up against pass rushers of that level of talent. I expect him to look much better for most of the rest of the season.
