The Texans have ZERO running game. ZERO. The Cowboys sat back in cover 2 all day forcing the Texans to dump off passes all day - something they'll continue to do for the rest of the year because they can't run. Carr got flustered when he couldn't throw deep and made mistakes. When he needed to be good he wasn't. The defense - particularly the defensive backfield - was horrific. They couldn't get to Bledsoe enough and, once again, the opposition ran for better than 100 yards with one back. Their secondary is almost as bad as the running game. When you cannot run the ball and protect against the pass, you are going to suck no matter what other skills you have on either side of the ball. Period. Our "running backs" (and I use that term very liberally) ran 14 times for 19 FREAKING YARDS!!! You have GOT to be kidding with that. That's the biggest joke I've ever seen.
I'm not blaming Carr entirely. I'm not laying this all at his feet. But absolving him from blame from week to week is silly. He threw 3 INT's today. Yeah, I know, it's not his fault. Being QB for the Texans is the 2nd greatest job in the world, right behind being a weatherman. Doesn't matter how good/bad you are, no one ever blames you. We've forgotten all expecations for Carr. We're looking at this #1 pick who we just committed tons of money to on an extension and hoping and praying that he's just good enough to be the starter. Hoping that he's enough of a game manager that he won't kill us. That's silly. The guy isn't a playmaker. Haven't we seen enough of that by now to know that? Have you once seen this guy put the team on his back? Have you seen him try? Kubiak busted his ass a few weeks back for "quitting" after the Texans got down...for sulking around the field and half-assing it. I just don't see it. I had great hopes for him. Great expectations. I defended him for years here when others were already ready to throw him to the wolves. No longer.
Of course, he broke his collarbone yesterday and probably won't play again this season. That will also jeopardize his chances of being a high draft pick. You have to wonder, with all his injuries, if he is worth the risk. The guy has skills, but seems like an injury waiting to happen AND they have run him WAY too much in college making the length of his pro career a serious question. But, at this point, Spencer Tillman could come out of the broadcast booth and run for more yards than our guys.
here's another thing. have you ever seen a pro football team so entirely flustered by Cover 2. I swear, it's like kryptonite. in 4 years they've never been able to adapt to match a cover 2. it's amazing.
I'm not really sure that is a fair assessment. The guy was bad today, no doubt. He deserves every bit of the blame. But, no WAY can you say that he does no wrong in the eyes of the fans. He has been getting KILLED by fans for the past year and a half. In some cases, rightfully so, but, Carr could be absolutely perfect, doing everything right and STILL be blamed when the team loses. That's just the fact when dealing with him. He is cursed in this town no matter what he does. I, personally, don't consider him a great quarterback. We should've all figured that out around year two. If you didn't and you still were telling everyone he was going to be the next Aikman or Elway, you were not terribly bright or just blind.
i honestly can't think of an athlete in houston who has had more excuses made for him than this guy. seriously.
Only when they can't run, which is exactly what happened today. They haven't been horrible against the cover 2 in passing situations this year. In fact, they've been relatively efficient until today. But, when you can't run, the whole other team just sits back and waits for the throw knowing what you are doing. It's a disaster waiting to happen. Today was horrific, but it's like in basketball when a guy can't shoot a jumper. It messes up the rest of his game because defenders just back off and won't allow him to drive. This team has only one option - passing the ball - and that option is mediocre at best. They have an average QB, a below average offensive line, average tight ends and slightly above average receivers. They have NO running game and no real threats to catch the ball out of the backfield. In short, they suck AND they're one dimensional. Bad combination.
but this isn't a new thing. anytime a team goes to cover 2 on them, the texans look like they've never seen it before. they were able to run the ball pretty well last season...same result when teams went to cover 2. i've never seen anything like that.
hmmm...i'll agree to disagree with you. i know there have been boos...i know a jackass threw some beer on his wife. i promise you there aren't many other situations where the fans would be this patient.
Great News!!!!!! TB/Tenn/Detoit all win. #1 pick here we c*m. Real Texans fans will root for Miami and Oakland today.
A. Rosenfelds isn't that good despite what everyone wants to believe. Anyone remember Cody Carlson or Giff Neilsen or Bucky Richardson? Same deal. B. He isn't going to help the running game, the primary source of the offense's problems. C. This team isn't playing for anything this season. Carr has got his season to prove himself and Kubiak has his season to make him better or bust. If that doesn't happen, Carr will be out next year and that will be that. Even if they brought Rosenfelds in, which they won't, he isn't making this offense any better. They are not good and as long as they can't run the ball, they are going to struggle on offense because this whole system is built around running the ball. Funny, Reggie Bush would've made this offense 1000 times better simply by his presence. Actually, it's not funny.
Jeff, I remember both of those. NEVER came out of Backup material. True, Carr threw 2 INTs, but that's how it will be if there is no running game. I actually feel it no. Are you the only one with this topic? Second post with the same topic. Jeez, man. There are 11 games left... give it a rest... wait until maybe the 10th game, dude.
