Safe to assume the AFC will lose with so many Texans on the roster?

The difference in cap hit for this year between Schaub and Manning is $7mil, a number that can easily be made up by tendering him rather than giving him the big contract. And it's not clear whether a team would offer a 1st round pick AND give him a big contract. Other cap casualty could've included Walter and Cody.

In addition, Denver's contract with Manning is not guaranteed beyond the first year. Meaning that if the Texans wanted to, they likely could've structured a contract where Manning gets more guaranteed money but at a lower cap hit.

Also, Schaub's extension kicks in next year, and he's not going to be much cheaper anyway in the totality of the contract, even if it's somewhat backloaded. We're talking about $6mil difference between Manning and Schaub here. Again, keep in mind that Manning's contract had no signing bonus, and his cap hit would be lower if the Texans were willing to give him a big bonus.

tl;dr version, the Texans absolutely could've offered Manning enough money. I wasn't opposed to that decision at the time, but I overestimated their OLine's ability to not suck.

One of my Christmas gifts was a Texans 2012 AFC South Championship t-shirt and hat and now I'm going to be somewhat embarrassed to wear them.

Deep down inside and he will never admit it publicly, Kubiak has realized he chose the wrong franchise qb back in 2007.

Can't depend on the offense so you try to run back the kickoff, hoping for a big play, and can only get back to the 16 yard line.

But I thought we had an elite offense.

As I said before, you can move the ball up and down the field all you want, but if you can't get into the end zone, what's the point? You win with TDs.
