Dude, they weren't this bad in their FIRST season of existence.

I didn't expect them to win. I didn't expect them to be a great team this year. I expected to see improvement. I don't see any.

I disagree. Culpepper doesnt have Moss but we'll see how good he is in 2 weeks. Losing to the Bills pretty lame last I saw 16-0.

    I wish I did. I don't.

I agree with your assessment of Carr.

Our defense is an absolute trainwreck. We have no running game. We've actually a worse running team so far than we were last year...and yes, i realize it's early.

Our secondary is laughable. I didn't expect to see us get real pressure on Peyton...but I'm still waiting to see us really disrupt ANY QB with a pass rush. Our offensive line blows...and losing Spencer sucks, if he's hurt bad.

I think if you're getting excited over the offensive numbers we put up in the 4th quarter when the game was out of reach, then your excitement is misplaced.

The over/under in Vegas was 5.5. If they're still throwing that number up, I'd take under.

Even though most of his numbers came at the end, Carr ended up with something around a 140 rating for the game.

Yeah, I know ... My excitement if you want to call it that was seeing Carr actually make some good decisions and start finding a rhythm despite all obstacles. I mean I dont remember us getting a single false start penalty in that hostile house. First 5 minutes, we played sh*tty. No excuses but, I like the fact they didnt back down and even after the Colts tried to rub it in with a TD with 2 minutes to go, Carr marched us back down the field. Yes, this team still sucks but they dont suck as bad as last year. Last year, we couldnt do wrong right. That's all I'm saying. We had to play nearly perfect to beat this team they're just that good. Unfortunately.

Babin has the "permanent hate" amongst Texan fans.

However, few may realize this: Babin's last 5 games = 5 sacks

    Not bad.

I don't care if Carr's success comes in garabage time or not.

In the last 5 years, hes had plenty of time to put together lots of scoring drives in garabage time and he hasn't.

He did it today and he did it well.

That is progress no matter how you look at it.

I'm not as convinced as you are that we aren't as bad as we were last year.

I agree we rallied in the 4th. And I suppose that's a good thing. It's just so late. Where was that in the 2nd quarter?? Or the 1st?? It looked to me like they got knocked in the mouth and didn't respond at all.

As Jeff said, it looked like UT v. Rice. Which is exactly what my father said, as well.

After 5 years, moral victories in 21 point losses suck ass.

Wow, the Fins lost 16-6 to the Bills and the crowd was chanting for Joey at the end of the game. How bad is that? :D

The bottom line is that this team will never be good unless they stop giving up more than 30 points a game.

I know that 98% of the attention to the "progress" of this team is focused on David Carr, the offensive line, and the running game... and the other 2% is reserved for Mario Williams progress... but basically the defense's progress (or lackthereof) is ignored.

Believe it or not, the defense was WORSE than the offense last year. I know nobody wanted to realize that when they were salivating over Bush, but that was part of the reasoning.

Granted, Mario right now, by himself, can't improve the defense as a whole... but as he progresses, and the rest of the defensive pieces are accumulated over time, they could definitely contribute more to the overall progression of this team... rather than the narrow-minded view of whether or not Carr's lack of development is due to the line, or just simply because he's the worst QB to ever put on a NFL uniform.

I think you're right about having a shot. The secondary on this team is atrocious, but every other part at least shows glimmers of being decent or even good. (On the running game, Gado is a really good runner, last year wasn't a fluke.) We need to ignore anything that happened before this year, pretend that the team is a new team and go from there. From that perspective (which isn't that far from truth), it's a lot easier to find things that you like.

yes, for one we're finally going in the right direction. This franchise has been like a ship without a rudder and a captain who doesnt know his head from his ass. Midseason will give us a good indication. I hate seeing sacks but 9 vs the Eagles and the Colts isnt bad, it isnt good but isnt that bad.

OK, this team is clearly back to ground zero (some would say BELOW ground zero...). They looked exactly what they are: an expansion team. Fans will be angry and pissed off and they have every right to be that way. As for myself, I am astonished at the utter lack of talent especially on the defensive side of the ball. Both lines are simply terrible. The O-line has demonstrated their complete inability to handle power & speed defenses so what's next? I have no idea...The D-line can't get past the line of scrimmage. This defense is clearly one of the worst in the league. Richard Smith has got to be on the hot seat because his defenses were totally vanilla and they got their asses handed to them: Indy had over 500 yards of offense. The offense couldn't run the ball against an underwhelming Indy defense. They just make it so very easy for the opposing teams to beat them.

It all boils down to talent and they don't have a whole lot of it on the roster yet. Just look at all of the former Texans players (and coaches) who can't find work in the league because they suck. Four years of inept personnel decisions by Casserly and dimwitted coaching by Capers have led to this mess and it will take at least 2 more years for Kubiak to sweep out the trash and turn things around. They may well wind up 2-14 again so I suggest not vesting too much passion into this team because this year they will be one of the worse teams in the league...again.

If I didnt disklike the Titans so much, I'd buy you a beer because that half of football by the Titans was brutal and somebody needs a hug. :D Actually its Buttkiss Adams I cant stand. Fisher's a good coach but you know y'all are kind of starting over like us.

You're exactly right. When you barely adress the O-line for 4 years, and you only draft defensive players that "fit" a certain system that was never all that functional anyways... the Texans deserve to be where they are right now.

Granted, they've finally started doing this past off-season, what they should have done 4 years ago... stock-pile offensive and defensive lineman. By the time those guys come into their own, the "skill" position players (AJ and Carr) may have the possibility of their best years behind them.

Its a vicious cycle that they're going to need to crawl their way out of.

Can't disagree there. The numbers speak for themselves. Until the DL gels into a unit, our secondary will look bad alot. There's a reason why McNabb and Peyton are perennial pro bowlers, they're good! Not excusing our play but these first two games, hello baptism by fire!

David Carr looked good today. Maybe he's salvageable after all. It's so obvious this team is still adjusting to the new regime. We should all keep in mind the first few games are when they will look the absolute worst. As the season progresses both the offense and defense will play better and we can fairly evaluate our talent level. Obviously we need more talent but we aren't as bad as it seemed today. 2-14 again simply will not happen. Neither will drafting Adrian Peterson. A new day is dawning but the sun is rising very slowly.
