I know man, tell me about it. A loss destroys my day, and makes me want to avoid sports all week. But a win! and suddenly I'm all over ESPN and loving every min of it.
When the Texans get a win on Sundays, I am able to finish my homework due Monday. When they lose, I never finish, just can't bring myself to do it on those days.
Shaub played like he should, i hope he plays like that for the rest of the year and we have a good shot at making the playoffs, then making some noise there. we need to get our defense in order, and let's see what happens. how's our schedule from now on. i know we gotta play indy twice, both i think we'll lose.
Great game. Still had a couple of moments where i thought..."here we go again" (i.e. giving up 10 pts with 1:50 left in first half and the slaton fumble). Unfortunately, i've noticed a terrible trend. When i don't drink during the game, the texans win.
Even still, when things like that happen now, ie that Slaton fumble, I find myself thinking in a much more positive light than before. Maybe becuase we still had a 2 score lead but instead of thinking, here we go again, it was more thinking, yeah it sucks but let's see how the defense responds. There was none of that before. I gotta give mad props to Brian Cushing because I think he has brought an attitude to that side of the ball that was not there before. Maybe it's not all on him but he's the new guy and suddenly our defense is playing like a bunch of tough guys as opposed to the push over attitude they had before. Maybe it's Frank Bush too though and Demeco has always had it too. I even cheered Dunta a couple of times yesterday. Whatever it is I like it. It's very nice knowing you team will compete on both sides of the ball, it's a new feeling and one that if the team sustains we can feel really good about being truly competitive about making a playoff run. Also, Slaton has to secure the ball better when he is fighting for yardage and making his moves. When he makes those tremendous moves the ball tends to come away from his body which makes it easier for the ball to pop out. I feel it's his competitive nature that's hurting him, he knows he has not been the runner he was last year and he is trying to do too much as a result, this causes him to be sloppy in his technique when in a pile or making a cut. Anyway, i'm feeling good about the team and I feel it won't be long before this team shows up on Sundays expecting to win and then executes on the field and does it. We are on the cusp of being good again Houston.
Man, I hope you're right...but it seems like everytime they take us down that road, the next turn is an abrupt crash. I was very encouraged by the open attack to start the game...and a little disappointed by the tendency to play it close when we're only protecting a 7 point lead.
The Cushing-Ryans tandem really does set a tone. Robinson has been looking to be hard hitting all year, and adding Pollard has really helped as well. The two-hand-touch secondary has not been nearly the problem it was to start the season off. I'm ready to see these statements go away. Both situations were to tie the score, not win. Both losses were earned fully - we were not the better team either week. This squad *could* still go after 9 or 10 wins if they play the way they did yesterday. Let's focus on what's ahead of us. One of those moments for me was after a trip to the men's room to see CC Brown blow a coverage on play action to give up the easy TD. I was like "you gotta be kidding me" . My friends laughed and I realized they had turned it to the Giants game during a commercial break.
Exactly, this team just has a hard time putting together consecutive meaningful wins. A let down at home against the 49ers sounds very texans like.
The Texans have a boatload of these kinds of games under their belt. What they DON'T have however, is the wins in the NEXT game to keep that momentum going. As important as yesterday's win was, this Sunday's game against the Niners is going to be just as big. Let's see if we can get a sustained run going this season. I don't want to get too optimistic right now, but you've really got to like the way this team has come together over the last 3 weeks. They have not given up a SECOND HALF POINT since the JACKSONVILLE game. That's impressive no matter how you slice it.
Next weeks game is the biggest of the season because it is followed by two potentially very tough road games in Buffalo where it might be 12 degrees and snowing and then against the Peytons in Peytoniapolis. You lose against the 9ers at home and you could potentially go into the bye week with a very sour taste in your mouth.
