I think if the Texans start to realize like today that they do better with the passing game, screens long balls, boots, that they will and can win more often. The running game opened up today but wow the passing game was amazing against a good D
Will you be at the Monday night game against the Titans in Houston? Would love to make a bet with you for it. Thanks.
I think it's fixable. He just wasn't protecting the ball. When Geathers was trying to rip the ball out, Slaton tried to make a move and continue upfield. What he should have done was put both hands on the ball and fall forward. Anyways, it was a great win for us obviously. I still feel like we left some points out there but was still a great showing from both sides of the ball. Not sure if anyone has pointed this out, but the Texans D hasn't allowed a point in the second half in the last 3 games.
Promise I am not mad, annoyed or upset at all actually. I just want a friendly bet with him. This season was done after week 4, and I dont fault anyone for making fun of it.
ROXRAN's RANT Overall offense: Obviously our strength is the passing game. The key thing overall was spreading out Slaton. He can run well after the catch and in passing sets, we just simply have too much talent considering A.J., Owens, Walter, Jacoby. I think our receivers and T.E.'s are top shelf,...then adding Slaton as a passing component half the time seems to be the right mix, and I think even Kubiak is realizing that now. Offensive stand outs: Wow, A.J. is A.J. another ho-hum 100 yard rec. day. Likely the greatest wide receiver ever to play in pro houston sports. An absolute future hall of famer!...More please! Steve Slaton...I'll take 55-60 yards rushing if coupled with 100 yards rec. no problem...He may not be a 2009 version of Cedric Benson perhaps ever,... but at least we didn't have to give up a 2nd round pic for this weapon. Owen Daniels: Really playing superb. Awesome spear catch, and yac ability. Matt Shaub: O yeah him, well he made Slaton cause the fumble, didn't get 400 yards passing (should have had 5 TD's), held on too long to the ball...well at least that critique was legitimo Overall defense:...Is it just me, or can you say for the last 1.5 games that we might have decent to slightly better than average team defense? Gasp..I mean here comes Mr. Benson the baddest mother loader RB for 2009 version, and he meets what an opening?..no the 50 boys. Hard hitting, the kind that makes snot fly and pain happen...nuff said. Defensive standouts: J. Reeves, the frenchman who is our best corner. (make sure to roll the word "frenchman" as well) He knows defensive positioning like no other. If he had ultimate speed/tackling skills he would be the G.O.A.T., but no...Still I highly value J.Reeves' ability for knowing defensive positioning better than most and it shows. He played very well. Hopefully Quin (who already has promise) will learn on this regard. Brian Cushing: O did I not start with him?, actually add the rest of the 50 boys here...no actually add the rest of the defense....But let's start and leave it with Cushing...What can you say? Is there any doubt he will be DROY? ...This guy recovered from flu-like symtoms pretty damn well...He seems to be at his best attcking the line, and getting involved in some blitzes...His ability to play the run is already top shelf...Great lateral movement. It is truly scary for the other teams, once this guy gets more experience!
With the Jets losing...we are temporarly tied for the last WC spot with the Ravens, Jags and those Jets at 3-3. Its early but dam nice to be able to say that after week 6 and consider we have 2 winnable games in a row 5-3 is a real possiblity.
I would consider it a great and "do-able" success to win the next 2 and be 5-3 (on pace for 10-6 finish)...I see some trends on defense that I like (dare I say), and I think Kubiak is understanding that spreading Slaton out is important...
It is important, and Slaton should definitely be used as a passing weapon out of the backfield... but eventually, we're going to have to be able to run the ball with some level of consistency. Our ability to run the ball EARLY today (so long ago, I nearly forgot it) is what helped to set-up the play-action (which worked wonders on that TD). If we can't get the play-action going, it takes away a lot of our "big play" ability that we rely on. The only way to get the play-action executed (which Schaub sells perfectly, btw) is to have at least a "threat" of a viable running game. I'd actually like to see more of Ryan Moats. He seems to hit the line pretty hard, and would definitely give Slaton a welcome break for a series here and there. And hell... he's the only RB who hasn't yet fumbled in a CRUCIAL situation.
That's like betting someone you won't rub one out after striking out all night in a club. What's the point?
My thoughts exactly. I don't know why Kubiak is gun ho, on just using one RB save short yardage situations he wants to punch it in through. You see multiple RBs on all the best running teams and every time Moats has played in preseason or the regular he has put up solid numbers, why not actually give Moats a shot, outside of special teams duties. I wager on him being better hitting holes then I have seen of Brown.
LOL at Dada waiting for the one pick Matt threw to post in this thread and then disappearing after his monster game.
It is amazing what a Texan victory does to my mood all day. Great win by the hometown boys. I have to admit, that I was impressed by the Texan defense. This was their best effort of the season, no question. The key today, IMO, was that the offense mixed it up. It is about time that the coaching learned that it iok to throw the ball on 1st down.
Good game by the Texans. Major props to the O-line. Schaub was touched only once the whole game, and that came when he was sacked. The Texans need to keep the good play going. They can't afford a letdown next week against a good 49ers team.
