I wouldn't give up both picks but I think the #13 would be enough by itself. I think the main competition would be from the Jets. Word was their offer for Tykeke Hill was 2 seconds and a 3rd. (#35, #38, #69). That's equal to a mid 1st. They didn't want to give up #10. Would they for Deebo? Also their head coach Robert Saleh knew Deebo in San Fran and I think they have a good relationship. Will he even want to come here? I must admit I'd rather have Deebo long term at #25 million than Cooks at 20. Will we keep both?
I'd rather take a swing on a guy like Christian Watson or Skyy Moore with the 2nd rounder. Deebo is awesome, but Im not sure he's worth the salary he's looking for considering how often the guy seems to get hurt. I wouldnt be mad if he found himself on the roster just puzzled that they would pay him vs paying DeAndre in a rebuild especially.
Love Deebo, but he's better suited for a contender. Don't want to blow cap room or give a 1st just yet, unless its for a 2nd and 4th I'd stay on the path.
Agree with this. Get a good one with 5 years control from the draft. That's when we will be in win mode. Sadly not this year.
Hearing from Tom Pelissero that one of the main reasons he wants a new address is that he doesn't want to run the ball as much anymore. Probably wanting to take less punishment and maximize his earning potential, especially as the wr's are starting to get the mega-dollars. Can't say I like seeing all these players try to force themselves to other teams though. Deebo's running is a big part of what gives him his worth but he's still a really good wide receiver, although not huge and not an outright burner. With this factor I probably wouldn't give up the #13. Maybe a 2 and a 3 but I think they'll get better offers than that. Plus there's the "Shanahan effect". He schemes great plays for his guys which can inflate their perceived value and although I know Pep's a great coach I just know if he's as good as baby Shanny at play design. All things considered there's a lot of good receivers in this draft that can be had day 2 or even 3. I just hope Caserio didn't bring the N.E. wr curse with him!
Deebo is a nice player, and a complementary fit with Brandin Cooks. With that said, we need loads of young, cheap talent to rebuild our squad from the ashes. If we were a piece or two away from contending, then sure. But we are 7-8 pieces away at minimum. Deebo is from SOUTH CAROLINA, like the McNair family. Don't overlook that as a factor.
We just extended cooks… No way Caserio is going to tie up 40 million dollars to two players who play the same position
texans got an opportunity at a top 5 pick selection next year plus a ton of cap space coming why would they mess that up now lol
We could potentially miss out on Sauce, Hamilton, and Stingley if we try to get too cute. The last thing I want us to do is reduce are draft capital by trading up to secure one of them after pick 3. I would love for the Jets to trade up one spot, let them grab Thibodeaux. I still have blue balls from Clowney... (Secure an additional 2nd/3rd rounder) Texans 1st/4: Sauce Gardner 1st/13: Jameson Williams ( Our Next D HOP) I would not be opposed to OT- Charles Cross but I think General Mills has great natural pocket presence- I think we could grab a great filler later.
Is Deebo gonna be better than the 13th pick? Absolutely, but are we gonna pay him 30 Million a year? If so, hard pass. We aren't ready for that type of player. Our team still sucks. Rather just draft a someone on a rookie deal.
I’d also give him a big contract without a second thought. For one, we have a ton of cap space to make it happen. Two, this isn’t the NBA. “Tanking” doesn’t work. If you land a potential franchise QB — which we have — the worst thing you can do is cheap out in his first few years. Do everything to get him some weapons and protection so he’s in a good spot to prove whether he’s the guy. If he isn’t, start over.
I keep going back and forth over it. If the cost is relatively cheap, I would probably do it and pay Deebo. He’s a stud. But, other guys bring up good points about cheap control. No guarantee they will be as good as Deebo
It’s a moot point IMO. In the NFL, the cap doesn’t really become an issue until you have to pen a QB to a massive contract.
#13 for sure. Probably also a third-day pick. Anything more than that and I start having doubts. Certainly no future picks because, if Mills doesn't work out, I want to be in a position to move up and get the guy we want next year.
I keep seeing people wanting to draft defense with the top picks. Can someone please explain why? In my opinion you have to see if Mills is the guy this year. The only way to do that is give him some help, OL, WR, RB. If he fails this year then you draft the next QB with the 1st, first rounder next year and go all out on defense the rest of the draft. This way, if there is a new QB, the offense is already in place for him. One of the defense's biggest issues last year is they were on the field way too much. Giving Mills a decent offense to run would help this. Am I missing something here?
