It shouldnt... We played a physical noncharacteristic game... We played in the trenches old school football... And to top it off ...We won!!!... Styles make fights.... I dont have anything to complain about related to our play.... Even the dumb penalties were a result of us playing hard and with passion.... Would this approach win every week?? Doubtful... But until Andre comes back, get used to it!!!
My trick is just reading the last page of the game thread on Monday mornings. Right away, you can get a feel for what everyone has been b****ing about for the last 20 hours or so.
You dont start burning the clock with 12 min left and a one possession lead....specially after their offense has just finished two great drives. There is too much game left to become completely predictable. Under 5 min, sure....but we went into conservative mode with 20% of the game still left to play.
you also don't ignore the fact that you were running at will against them. Make them prove you can stop what you're doing.
Talking about it about on 790. Vindicated. I'm about to drop my pants and I'm going to have everyone kiss my ass.
Yeah well, those 40,000 steelers fans just paid a boatload of money to watch their team get their asses whooped. Good for them. I wipe my butt with terrible towels.
I don't have problems with running on first, second, third downs in those situations. What I can't understand is why Schaub doesn't have more freedom to audible at the line. I've seen him do it occasionally, but it clearly isn't the Colts out there. Schaub is a very good quarterback, who strikes me as pretty intelligent. The O-line is a well oiled machine. foster is extremely competent back. They all seem like "smart" players, generally, who would do fine with more audibles. Maybe Schaub does have that ultimate freedom, but it certainly doesn't seem like he does. There were a few plays there in the fourth where you saw the box was stacked.
I just don't think Kubes gives over complete control. I've routinely heard that they have a fixed set of audibles at the line, but nothing as completely free as a Peyton.
We ran the ball at will against them when Pitt didn't know what was coming...once we had the lead, we got stuffed trying to run the ball for three straight possessions bc that's how the texans offensive philosophy is with a 4th quarter lead. Same results in New Orleans.
Because those guys know everything? Those guys have their clueless moments, many of them. Until I see photographic surveillance images, like what the QBs use to scout, of every sector of the stands, i'm not buying the 60/40 split. Awesome game though,
The 2nd half lull wouldn't be a problem the last 2 weeks if we hadn't cost ourselves so many points in the 1st half with redzone and penalty issues. We'll get those worked out.
Great game and great win...The D is pretty amazing...I knew Wade would have them better, but this is beyond what I expected...And yesterday proved how special Arian Foster is...he's pretty amazing...Here's to AJ's speedy recovery...
no, last week the Texans tried to pass. the first 2 drives of the 4th quarter in which we had a 2 score lead the Texans passed 5 out of 6 plays. 4 of those 5 were incomplete. we may have won if we killed more time by running. the third possession they passed 5 straight times, of course because they were behind now. so how is it the same result when we won against Pittsburgh?
Im not talking about the result, as far as wins or losses...Im talking about the result as far as not being able to get 1 first down. We had a 9 pt lead...in two possessions against the Saints, we went 3 and out. Then, when we trailed, we miraculously drive all the way down the field to score a TD. With Pitt, we have the same result as far as not being able to get 1 first down when we have a 4th quarter lead. Thats 5 possessions of having the lead in the 4th quarter and having 0 first downs. We could have easily lost yesterdays game, despite the fact that we completely dominated them.
exactly. They came out passing with the lead in that game, and then went 3 and out, burning something like seconds. End of the day, you do what you do best in the crunch. Texans were running effectively so you keep at it. You don't let a team dictate what you are best at...and on sunday it was running the ball.
Ehhh . . . Pittsburgh was mostly stuffing the run in the 2nd half. Foster did have that great TD run, but on his other 9 carries in the half he gained 19 yards. 10 second half carries: 1 great run, 1 average run (5 yards), 8 runs for little or negative yardage. I wouldn't say we were running at will in the 2nd half. Our typical 2nd half possession was 2 Foster runs and then an incomplete pass on 3rd and 6. In our effort to run the clock, our possessions ended up lasting only about a minute forty.
