You are a "Senior Member" when that is title directly beneath your BBS handle on the left hand side of your posts. I believe the threshold is 400 posts?

It is good thing, my hero, that this thing doesn't start until after New Year's day because you would be gone for misspelling abbreviations.

And I believe it is Umm:p

Now, Manny - why do you think I asked what you call them? ;)

But maybe I should have just used abbr. :p

And btw - I'm going to win this thing, I'm going BobFinn* on all of you, only posting the much known little oneliner:

    I agree. :D

    Yeah, as if.

I will do my best to last one day, and probably fail miserably.

*disclaimer - I have not yet started*

How does this work? If you catch someone who spells something wrong, then you report it? Is it only on this thread? I want in, but don't know how to play.

How long will I need to leave "My spelling sucks!" in my sig?

This game reminds me of a movie I saw recently called Hands on a Hard Body.

Man, if it wasn't for stupid school I would have been a senior member for sure by now and I could have won this thing. Oh well, I guess I will just wait until next time. Unless you put out a 185 post limit to enter. :D  ;)

Edit: Can only senior members catch people, or can junior members be the police too?

Mmmmh, I just checked and the old spelling game DID actually happen a year ago. So I guess I will have to defend my title now by participating in this one. Sorry, all of you :D.

I know you put a smiley in there, but be warned... the admins frown on short, pointless posts. You may find you never become a senior member, even if you reach 400 posts :)

If I remember correctly, the last contest had a 1 post per day qualifier to enter. Is that true this time?

That was the only reason why I didn't whoop ass on yall last time, I didn't have a high enough ppd percentage.

BTW, if this is just a spelling contest, does it matter if someone leaves out the apostrophe from contractions? Ex: "cant" instead of "can't"

No matter, I'm in. Good luck to you all, I can catch a mispelled word with the greatest of ease. :D

If this is true, then I can't play either (0.38 posts per day) :(

I've been posting more frequently recently though, I went through a 12 month spell of only having dial-up access, which made spending too much time on the board prohibitive...

Here's a quick question -- do signatures count in the spelling contest? I don't think they should . . .

    What the hell...I'm in...

Now, what about editing? If somebody misspells something, can they edit their post before being caught? Is there no editing allowed?

I propose this (without trying to sound too Manny Ramirez-esque): There is a small time window that allows someone to edit their post without that little "last edited by" message appearing. If the person edits their post in this time frame and corrects all spelling mistakes, then the post is allowed and the person stays in the game, even though it might be put in the kill thread before being edited. We can call this the quick edit rule.

If a person misspells something but doesn't spot the misspelling for a while, he/she is allowed to edit the past as long as the post hasn't been killed. If the "last edited by" in the post is before the time in the kill post, then the post stands and is allowed. This would be helpful if, lets say, the person posting in the kill post has to answer the phone or something before actually posting, he can't come back and say "Uhhh...well, I had to answer the phone, but I saw it! honest!". In case of the two times being identical, then the tie goes to the killer...

Of course, this is htownhero's game, so it's his rules. He can just simplify everything and say that anything in the kill thread is an automatic kill, no questions asked....I suggest posting an official ruling on this when the game starts on Wednesday....

...and of course, there will be a weekly spelling survivor update thread listing everyone that got eliminated, so we can laugh at them, right?

Oh yeah, I'm assuming that misspellings in titles are included in this? Heck, if you have a misspelling in the title, you don't deserve to be posting on the board anyways! :D

    A-Train,

You only "wish" that you could be as superflous as me.:p

I like your proposals and I think that is what the rules were last time this was played.

Hmmmm...I was able to edit my post this morning, so I assumed that editing capabilities were restored. Clutch can simplify the whole process by disabling editing 24/7...

Don't worry Manny, I feel your pane. :D

    This was done before??
