Ah, but now I can tell myself three things:

    1. "You're honourable."
    2. "You rose above a pedantic argument."
    3. "You would have won that damned contest if you'd decided to stay in!"
      [/list=1]

Agreed with RM95, like I said earlier..I don't feel that adding an additional word into your post should have disqualified you...
It wasnt misspelled...it just wasn't needed in the context of your post..

    ;p @ HP

    GBRocksFan,

Aha...yes, maybe you can tell yourself those three things, but your signature's honourable admission of failure to proofread typos has a spelling mistake. "proofread" has no hyphen. You had no chance. We all go down due to typos. Some typos luckily still spell words; some don't.

really, we all have no chance ... it will come down to

    fadeaway
    dimsie
    SJC

now, fadeaway is on a mission this year. dimsie writes way too much. (We should have an award for who wrote the most words before being killed...she'd win that.) And SJC has everyone hunting him down, but he has the advantage for writing the least.

my money is on SJC again, because fadeaway can't keep it up, considering he does more than one-liners like SJC.

then again, CriscoKidd is hiding in the woods somewhere. Don't forget about him. I killed him last year for a wrongly hyphenated word, too; otherwise, he might have won last year up until someone started crap about Battie being better than Marion. He's vulnerable to flame wars.

I just nailed Timing in the Iraq attack economy thread.

I would play, but I didn't see the game until well after it started.

I do like being an enforcer though, even though I'll never bust someone for grammar or other non-spelling mistakes in a spelling contest.

    Rockets2K,

Everyone goes out for typos. It's not like I thought hyphenated was spelled "hypenated." It is not like Puedlfor thought the preposition "to" was what he wanted vs "too." I also misspell phonetically. I'll write "wear" instead of "where." But on my honor system, typos = misspellings.

On your honor system, you will apparently tell your boss that you're a good speller, because Microsoft Word found all your spelling errors before you submitted that memo to the shareholders on behalf of the CEO that started,

    "Ladles and Gentlemen,"

OK, so your point is that you didn't really misspell "Ladies" there, because you're lucky enough that your typo was a word.

Go head, if your want. You can continue sawing that types or not misspellings. But all the real spellers know that its just a excuse for relying too heavily on spell checkers, or clicking the wrong word that the spell checker suggests.

    :p

my only point was that GB threw in an additional word...neither of which was misspelled..

was it a mistake in the context of the post? yes..

was it a spelling mistake? no...

and FWIW...I dont use spellcheckers.. :p

That's a difficult one for me to disagree with, because dictionary.com has it listed, but my copy of the Concise Oxford English Dictionary does not list it without a hyphen, but it is listed in the definition for proof with a hyphen. I may have made an error by the the competition's rules, but I am confident that my spelling of proof-read is an acceptable one. :p

I thought you were trying to yank my chain with the first :p. Seriously though, why can't you guys just agree on the honor system for typos. Typos are not grammatical errors. They are typos.

by my honor system: typos = misspellings.

You gays max it seam light you won't it too be an actuarial Spelling Bee context.

Fact is: writing "Ladles and Gentlemen" is a typo, no different than me spelling "hyphenated" without the second "h" that is required for the "f" sound. One typo is lucky enough to spell a word; the other is not. Both still clearly misspelled the intended word, right?

btw: I didn't really want to kill GB. I was just ribbing him for his long explanation that contained a glaring typo.

Guess I could have sort of stayed in as well. But I don't think calling John Stockton a saint would have been very good for me. :)

And I agree with heypartner again (the world is coming to an end):

Typos are misspellings, as far as this game is concerned.

Then call it the perfect posting contest, not the spelling contest.
