Sonics GM and others saying context does not matter, consider this: The spirit of no "grammar/punctuation kills" is to avoid technical arguments about tense and sentence structure (e.g., no split infinitives; don't end a phrase with a preposition, etc.), but the spirit of saying grammar kills don't count was never to say that context does not matter at all just because you passed a spell checker. Of course, this creates gray areas, but surely you are not saying that just because one passed a spell checker then s/he can't be killed? So, there are kills on correctly spelled words, especially when you use the honor system. Examples: "Wear am I" vs "Where am I" is a clear spelling mistake, but by saying "well, 'wear' is a word, so that's just a grammatical error" is just lame and an argument outside the spirit of the game. Likewise, "accept" and "except" are nowhere close in definition or context, and you know it is a brain fart when you use the wrong one. Further, "no where" is two correctly spelled words, but you know that "nowhere" is the correct word. Use the honor system and admit the spelling mistake and accept the kill like GBRocksfan and Puedlfor did on "to to" and "to" vs "too." bottomline: you can pass a spell checker and still be killed.
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck... Damni*, *oo bad I didn'* ge* *he damn "*" bu**on fixed on *his s*upid keyboard.
Ok, you looked up how to spell Topenga but you got caught off guard by a gummy keyboard? tsk tsk..................
I don't know about that whole "its" thing, but I'm out anyways: I HATE JOHN STOCKTON! I was going to double check his name spelling and I forgot to add in the rest of his name. Though it could be an abbreviation...jk. (I don't even know if I spelled abbreviation right.)
Now here is a deliciously ironic test of the honor system. What exactly is a "content" contest? Is that to grade "the main substance and meaning" of a post...? maybe, maybe no Or did R2K mean to say the contest does not consider incorrect placement of words in their context? may be, may be no What is it, Rockets2K? How's your honor system? Did you mean to use "context" in that context, or are you going to cling to some notion that the meaning of your post was defending the use of correctly spelled words no matter what content, er, I mean, no matter what context?
Rockets R' Us, Use the www.dictionary.com dictionary. That allows you to give links to prove misspellings, and everyone has access to it, especially if you play scrabble rules whereby a wrong accusation kills the accuser.
Ok guys, I need a ruling on this one: Alot and thats are not even words, so do these count as misspellings? If so, gotcha R2K!!!!
Yea ok but that still leaves areas like the capital "I" error people are getting killed for, u cant go wrong typing "i" or "I" unless they have two diff meanings and i just dont know it..........
lot and thats are not even words, so do these count as misspellings? I claim the kill of Rockets2K, since Codell doesn't seem to be claiming the kill. Sonics GM, the gray areas are settled by an honor system. It never was a big deal last game. No one was forced out. And who got killed for "i" anyhow?
I got booted out over "thats". Whats good for me is good for the goose..... or however the saying goes.
