I can't imagine dealing with this,... is this the bidenomics in action? The sad thing is the commentary is correct -these cops are much much more likely to lose their jobs then any repercussions to the organized theft criminals

This thread is weird.

Retail theft overall is actually down from 20-25 years ago. Having said that, organized flash mobs are a problem and popular right now. Part of it is that it is very easy to organize on social media. Part of it, I believe, is that California and a few others relaxed some laws and underestimated how thin the veneer of society is when people see other people get away with looting and theft in videos and social media.

The biggest reason? The huge wealth inequality in the USA, as it is currently the worst it has been since the early twentieth century - where we saw stuff like this happen often.

You throw in efforts from the extreme left for no bail bond, and laxer prison terms… with hardline conservatives pushing for income inequality and you have a recipe for disaster—- sprinkle in COVID and inflation— and this is what happens.

FWIW I don’t give a **** about Target or Walmart crying about closing stores as they both are extremely profitable and financially valuable entities. When they fold their businesses, then we can talk- until then it’s all BS messaging.

 

I don't feel bad for them, they supported all this bs and promoted woke trans kids clothes....

 

Seems like it would have been smarter for them to push for more police funding and not for woke movements that target children. I do wonder how these woke cities are going to look like in a few years.....

It's not weird, it's par for the course from conservative and some mainstream media and the people that propagate the messages from it. For mainstream media, crime sells. For conservative media it does double duty and also sells the narrative they need. They don't really care about actual causes like wealth inequality, they just need whatever aspect of the story will serve their own purposes.

Now, there can be definite rises in concerns for retail stores. More organized theft rings should be taken seriously. Theft is real. Internal shrink is very real. And other issues - like, say, some right wingers threatening violence because they've been conditioned to further weaponize their bigotry, add another level of problems. Anyone who has ever worked retail can tell you about the struggles.

But the retail corporations are also more than happy to use supposed shrink as a scapegoat, even though as you said there don't seem to be any numbers to really back that up. Numbers that do get reported seem to do the opposite actually.

But fearmongering and panic over supposed crime increases is a GOP tale as old as time. Solutions aren't an actual concern when the narrative doesn't require any.


For example, the events in Philly:

1. Police officer who shot and killed a man in his car during a traffic stop and lied about his actions while in the car gets no charges.

2. Family and supporters hold a march and protest at City Hall.

3. Crowd of people loot stores in the city.


Only one of these gets youtube videos and posts plastered about it. Only one of those is needed by Youtube grifter channels that need reasons to put the word Woke in more thumbnails. Weird, indeed.

Wonder why that is....
