i'd rather take my chances with one of my reserves being able to get the ball into the outfield (or one of the many other ways that a runner can score from 3rd with less than 2 outs), rather than relying on pudge to get a hit that can score the runner from 2nd. i've repeated that endlessly on this board. now, don't get me wrong, i think jason michaels is putrid, and it annoys the **** out of me that he's still on the team and that he's the player we are forced to use if that situation played out as i think it should of. if he can't be trusted whatsoever to do that though ("not an rbi guy", says cecil)...why in god's name is he on the team?
yeah, i would, too. cooper more or less admitted he made a mistake on pailio's show yesterday. frankly, what bothered me more than the actual decision was cooper's response, which didn't - on its surface, at least - sound like he had properly run through the various scenarios in his head. i think letting pudge swing away is a defensible position BUT... it's sure-as-heck-fire NOT because he's a vaunted run producer and/or because he's been in that situation a million times. this isn't 1999. you let pudge swing away because a bunt (likely) sets up the walk/double play possbility. but cooper, to my knowledge, never said that - he may have been implying it but he wasn't explicit. i think it speaks volumes to his ability to manage game situations and how they often cross him up.
The Astros defense gets worse every night seemingly. Very unlucky for Moehler here, should have been 1-2-3
Defensive blunders everywhere. A possible DP turns into no outs after a high throw from Keppinger. Now another attempt for a DP ends up with Tejada dropping the ball, a run scores and still no outs. 2 errors in a row.
Props to Moehler for limiting the damage. That was just some bad baseball. Our infield needs to get it together.
Great baserunning there, unusual to see Carlos running so hard lol. About time we did the little things right for once, goes a long way to manufacturing runs.
you guys are making too big a deal out of this. it was just an interview, he said the decision kept him up all night.
am i the only one that would kinda have liked to see the aftermath of berkman getting tagged out at 3rd before lee finished jogging home?
I think Pence rushed that AB. Bannister was throwing a lot of balls and getting behind in the count and we had 2 on with no outs. Pence swung at a first pitch high and outside instead of taking a pitch or two. We were fortunate to advance the runners.
Since Cooper has never publicly done anything about Lee's lackadaisicalness in the past, I doubt we would have seen anything.
Cubs fans were fooled into thinking the Cubs were getting hot thanks to the Indians bullpen. Not saying the Cubs won't get hot at some point but making comebacks against the likes of the Indians bullpen is not much of a sign.
