I agree that the .722 OPS is sustainable. The problem is that makes him a below-average hitter. Combined with his sub-par defense, you have a player who should not be taking AB away from Wallace. This team sucks, and they have to figure out who can help them in the long run - Johnson almost certainly cannot.
Nice little two-out rally by the Astros to take a 3-2 lead in the 8th inning. I know it's only the Rockies and it's only the first series of the season, but I think a series win here would be big for the confidence of this group.
its so weird seeing people who literally have zero fan recognition. No hype on these guys...almost like we are parading the oddities out there. Its so strange being a fan of a team where almost everyone on it is a virtual unknown.
It's nice to have baseball back. Even if we do horrible, it will just be nice to have something to watch almost every day.
Not that it really matters but attendance was 14,195 today, making it the smallest announced crowd in the 12-plus-year history of Minute Maid Park (Chron)
I just came here to comment on that. I know its Easter and all, but I seem to remember them doing better than this in the past. Maybe there are some fans that are angry about the move to the AL? I know I fricking hate it! lol I dont know...
This team is fun to watch. Going to be interesting to see these young guys develop and see if any can break out.
Yes, I agree. We know what Johnson is... his ceiling is average offense for a third baseman (slightly below MLB average), with below average defense. That is not a guy I want starting everyday long term. Wallace, I still think has a shot to be an .800 OPS guy, it's looking dimmer and dimmer, but it could happen.
How long has it been since the Astros were over .500 in the regular season? My, we've fallen a long way since the good-not-so-old days. Isn't this first opening series win since 2006?
Unless the Stros really shoot out of the gate fast, I suspect there will be far worse crowds this season. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few under 10K.
