I missed the game winning hit, but I saw #3000. I was bowling and missed our last hit. My bud was at the game....i hate him. Okay, I have to wake up in 5 hrs for work...ugh. night night.
That was an unreal experience. Amazing to witness. If ever a game and circumstance to build momentum, this is it.
yeah it was dead silent the split second after each pitch before he hit the 2-0. i have a 400mb video that i took with my camera. i'd like to upload it to youtube cause it has the whole at-bat with the crowd chanting and what-not plus him dragging bagwell out of the dugout, but their max is limit is 100mb. what program can i "acquire" that will let me compress it?
I blame Surfguy for missing the ending. I went to the store during the Rockies at bat, heard Tulowitki's HR, then checked the draft when i got back, then checked this thread and read your post. just kidding surfguy , it's my fault, I shouldn't have left in the first place. it was a shock to flip back and see that we came back with the walkoff GS by El Caballo. Congrats Biggio, he's hot right now, so he won't be sitting if he keeps hitting like he has. also...i had some buddies of mine call me from the game, they were leaving to go to the tittie bar at about 8pm....i'm pretty sure they missed Biggios hit...what morons, i'm all for t*tties, but they had seats in the crawford boxes and missed Biggio's hit and the Grand Slam.
SO pissed I missed this game, I bought tickets for tonight and was thinking I would be there but to anyone that went I hope you understand what a big deal this is to our baseball club that is trying to build history in a game in which that is so important. Congrats Biggio and while I wasn't there it was fun being at a bar cheering when Lee hit that walk off.
Texanskan, I completely understand what you are saying. I was there, and it was one of the most magical and electric atmospheres ever at a sporting event. MMP has been host to a lot of different goose bump moments. Last nite was among the best of them. When Bagwell came out, my eyes welled up. I am actually getting goose bumps as I type this. Very very special nite for the franchise last nite and a very very special nite for me. I will never forget that experience.
People don't realize how relatively "young" the Astros franchise is (in terms of baseball)... but how old it is in terms of local Houston sports (its the oldest). Thus, Houston is a VERY young place, sports-wise. Each of these moments, whether it be the Astros, Rockets, or even Texans, are still contributing to the overall history of this still evolving sports town. Just 12 years ago, 1995, nobody would have imagined the magnitude of this sentimental moment for the Astros... assuming it wasn't a playoff/world series game.
My dad was 16 when the franchise was born in 1962. The first division title wasn't until 1980. I was 10 years old at that point. The 2nd "full" division title was until 1986, when I was 16. Not a lot of winning early on to catch the cities attention. My dad was a native, his dad was a native whose dad was also a native Texan. I used to see a lot of kids going to the dome wearing Astros gear, but their parents cheering for the visiting team. My generation is the first to fully grow up being Astros fans. For those of you my age, with kids of your own, and still in Houston; you are the first generation that grew up an Astros fan that is raising Astros fans. That is how loyalty is built. Phoenix right now is Houston back in the 1960's/1970's. It has baseball, but most of the adults are from somewhere else. It is the kids who are 100% behind the DBacks. The Dbacks though were fortunate to win the World Series in a big hurry, which helps build the fan base. My household is typcial for Arizona. Dad is an Astros fan, mom is a Cardinals fan and the kids, well, there I sit every year, cheering for the Astros while my girls wear DBacks caps.
I was at the game last night, and there are no words to explain the energy inside Minute Maid Park. Biggio got a standing ovation all 6 times to the plate, lightbulbs from cameras flashing non-stop, I am getting chills just thinking about it. Then to top it off with a walk-off grand slam, man oh man, this will be one I tell my grandkids about. I can all but guarantee that barring a World Series clinching game, there may never again be an atmosphere like the one in MMP last night. Completely surreal.
Somebody better alert the security at MMP tonight... I hear Brian Fuentes is going to single-handedly tear down the Crawford Boxes. Way to stick it to those pesky Rockies... they've now lost 8 in a row.
WOOHOO! As an Astros fan, I can empathize with the Rockies. But we're on the other end now, baby. WOOHOO!
